Watch these videos. On the theatrical trailer, at the bottom, stop at this time(1:29-1:30) to see part of the monster and again at this time(1:57)at the bridge. Do you see it?

here's a better trailer for it, and its called Cloverfield

Your right that is a better trailer. You called it Cloverfield, is that the official name? Or just a temporary one? I've heard it been called Wreck, Overnight and Monstrous so I figured I'd just called unnamed for now. Seeing as how they can't make their minds up.

It was temporary, but they failed at coming up with a better name so now its just cloverfield.

Oh alright. Thanks for clearing that up Mr.Z.
Now what do you guys think of it? Does it seem like a godzilla knock off, based on the trailers?

Riven - November 29, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Well depends on your definition of knock off

Personally I think any and all giant monster movies that came out after Godzilla are knock offs.

J.J. Abrams has admitted though that when he was in Japan with his young son, he was inspired by all the giant monster merchandise that he saw and decided that it was time that America had its own giant monster, and not another King Kong because - and a I quote - he's too adorable >>;;

But based on the trailer, no, I dont think this monster is going to be anything like Godzilla, except for the giant monster bit >>;

I'm not going to say it looks like it'll be great because I wasnt impressed with J.J's Mission Impossible 3 movie - thought it was shit - but on the other hand, I love Alias and Lost and if he uses even a fraction of creativity making this movie that he shows making Lost, then I think it will be a pretty decent flick

I'm expecting it to be good, because it really takes effort to make a movie about a giant monster that isn't entertaining (it still amazes me that dean devlin and Roland Emerich were able to do that, but hopefully lightning won't strike twice here)

I agree here, aside from kong who excluding the japanese version is only semi giant, all of americas giant monsters are a bunch of pansies who only manage to scuff up the city their in a bit instead of utterly wrecking the hell out of it like they should do! But this movie trailer does look promising, that monster did as much damage in that trailer as gino did in his entire movie.

Riven - November 30, 2007 06:17 AM (GMT)
lets just hope that that isnt all the damage the Cloverfield monster does >.>

I agree, more destruction would be alot more entertaining, but if that fails there's always the second surprise.

From what I've read, seen, and actually stumbled across on the net, this is a Godzilla-esque origin for the creature which from the one piece of leaked production art I've found is pretty much a massive, mutated whale with a Gamera shell on it's back. The little creatures themselves are some sort of dinosaur looking sea lice attached to the whale monster that mature and go on a rampage.

Rumor has it that the creature pull and Alien and implant embryos in humans, hence the one scene of the woman appearing to blow up in the trailer behind the curtain. I'm not positive as to if this is true or not, but once again, the one peive of leaked art I saw last week seems to support the theory.

In any case, the monster looks like a cross between a sea monster, a whale, Godzilla, and Gamera.

I'm not really looking forward to it.

I also did some calculating on our "mystery monster's" height. Using Godzilla as a reference.

Statue of Liberty is 305ft tall (93 meters)
Godzilla is 326ft tall (100 meters.)
And in the Cloverfield trailers, the monster was tall enough to rip off, and throw the statue’s head. Ideally, Godzilla is capable of doing the same with ease. So, the monster in the movie would have to be Godzilla height, or, be able to climb up the statue and rip it off.
But judging by the gouges left in the statue, Godzilla size seems appropriate.

EDIT:

Is this what your talking about?

DON'T KNOW
The parasites don't look dino-like to me. This seems more appropiate.

Doesn't look whale like to me, but was that a shell on his back?

The REAL reason american monsters look like panseys compared to the japanese versions?

We build better buildings.. so the monsters don't break them just waddleing by. This makes the monsters confused and they begin to leave the buildings alone for the most part.. unless they want to climb up ontop of one of something, maybe.

on a side note here, who's planning to see AvP2?
