Finally bought and watched the second Karas OAV the other day and it got me thinking, definately worthy of possible RPG-ness.

All those who are unfamilar present your questions here and I shall field them to the best of my ability.

Those who are familar and like the idea don't hesitate to put forth possible ideas for major storyline arcs since I'm still figuring some out too.

From what I can tell from a quick glance over Karas is about this

sometime ago the lines between earth and hell were crossed and demons bled through into our dimension, now demons stalk humans from the shadows while humans have all but forgotten that this cross over ever happened

protecting humans from demons is Karas, a supernatural type warrior for good. However an ex-Karas warrior has turned evil and is raising an army of mechanized demons to take over the world.


I'm in Kai, I agree that it could be a very interesting rpg
I need to download Karas though, it looks good

It's a spiffy idea but there's a few problems like if we play how can there be more than one Karas? since there's only one allowed at any one time (except for that renegade dude and the good guys are out to kill him)

And Mikaru (sp) are a bit too well fucked up, evil and blah blah for everyone to play as them en masse, you could pull off one, maybe two but not everyone, unless we play yoki but those aren't exactly combative, we need a bit more Kaiser.

Wait until you see the second part Sparky, there is definately the option of everyone being able to play a Karas character, and I won't spoil it for ya because I'm a nice guy. :P

As for you WZ, as Riv stated there's two distinct yet interconnected worlds, the human realm and the demon/fiend realm. Karas is technically a "fiend" that protects both fiend and humans. Karas have a basic overall design of armour with variations of colour and appearance but from what I've seen they all have the ability to shift between a human, tank/car and jetfighter form. They also come equipped with a sword, which only the Yurine may unlock, even if the Karas is wearing their armour. How the Karas transforms is thru the watch-like device that they possess upon entering the convenant. Karas are able to move at two speeds, that which the humans and fiends may see and then a "turbo" speed in which everything else looks as tho its going in super crazy slow motion that only another Karas and Yurine are capable of following.

He or she is controlled by a Yurine; a Yurine is the "will of the city" born from soul of a person who represents the city. Yurine all typically look the same tho and are not very talkative. Anyhoo they are the ones who make a covenant with a human soul that is not quite dead but not quite alive and make them a Karas.


I'll go into greater depth about the Karas' abilities as more people ask. As for playable characters to choose from, there's Karas, Yurines (tho they really don't do much, unless you wanna make your Yurine character a black sheep type) possibly Fiends, and perhaps Mikura.

Not exactly like transformers in the way they transform but yes, they have two alternate forms tho they're definately not technological and more mystical.

I'll give a complete list of the Karas' abilities in the future if this thing starts to pan out into something more then just an idea.

Karas Character Overview:

Karas:

Weapons:

Primary Melee Weapon:

Katana:
In its sealed form, while still in its sheath, it looks like a normal katana.
However in the second Karas OAV, it appears once the katana is removed from its sheath it can transform into a different weapon, sounds a lot like Bleach come to think of it. But unlike Bleach it's that weapon all the time. So if you draw it out of the sheath and your weapon is a lance, once you draw it, it will always be a lance. There is at least two secondard forms however. The First is a "rage" mode in which the katana turns into a zanbatô style sword (think Cloud's Buster Sword) for a fatality style finishing move. Second is the ability of the blade to split down its center to form two seperate blades and I suppose doubles its raw strength but it seems only accessable after certain preset conditions either extensive training or some strong emotional desire to kill the bad guy.

Secondary Melee Weapon:

Arm spikes:
Seems Karas is able to extend the spikes on his forearms like a guyver to an extent and cut into his foe.

Multi Purpose Tools/Weapons:

Chain:
Karas is able to fire a chain, similarly to a grapply hook but controllable like Spawn's chains but not to such a fine degree. Usually found at the hip or shoulder and is accessible in all of Karas' forms.

Cloak/Cape:
The cloak is stored in the shoulders of Karas, capable of being deployed as a shield to deflect incoming attacks, although Karas must be in a whirl for it to effectively work that way, or so it seems in the anime.

Karas Watch:
This object signifies the covanent between a Yurine and a Karas, it allows the Karas to transform into their armoured form.

Alternative Forms:
Karas has two alternate forms he/she can shift into besides the armoured form. This occurs by Karas jumping through the golden energy gate which is utilized when Karas first accesses the armour. It appears not to require Karas saying any enchantments just consciously deciding which form to shift into, and unlike Transformers it happens instantaneously without a morphing process once Karas goes through the energy gate.

Tank/Car:
Karas is able to change into a race car-like form that has the firepower of a tank, often utilizing missiles and spiked blades along its armoured body as its primary means of attack.

Jetfighter:
Karas may also change into a jetfighter that is capable of rapidly firing energy bullets and also appears to have a lance as well to skewer foes.

Magic:
Seems Karas' possess a certain level of magical abilities to aid them in combat, this appears to range from creating multiple clones of one's self, doubling the katana while being utilized as a projectile. It appears certain hand seals are required to preform this skill.


Speed/Strength/Agility Etc...

It appears Karas is typically stronger then your average person probably 5x give or take. Granted the speed of Karas is well beyond that of a human since Karas is capable of moving at supernatural speeds that are so quick that the world appears to stop while utilzing this superior speed. Although this speed seems only accessible for short bursts as well as a Karas' agility. Although Karas' possess extremly strong spiritual armour it is capable of being pierced with sufficient forceand are by no means invulnerable.

Weaknesses:

Comatose Corporeal Body:
Quickest way to kill a Karas is to kill their corporeal body since a Karas is a human soul that is on the fence between life and death.

Killing Their Yurine:
A Karas is formed between a human soul that truly knows and feels human sorrow and the Yurine who enter into a covanent. The Yurine is the source of this power the Karas commands, so if ya kill the Yurine the covanent breaks and the human soul returns to their comatose body and are revived.

Steal The Watch:
Karas' require this watch like device in order to transform into a Karas, well typically they do, with the exception towards the end of the second OAV. Steal the watch and they can't use their powers.

Yurine:

A Yurine is the spiritual manifestation of a city, its physical avatar. It is capable of creating a covanent with a human soul who truly understands dispair in order to create a Karas. A Yurine is said to be born from the soul of a human who is the epitome of the city itself.
A Yurine possesses no clear offensive capabilities as the Karas acts as her agent. Yurine is the only being capable of unsealing the Karas' sword and allowing Karas to fight to its full potential. As the sword is typically chained shut until the Yurine frees it.
All Yurine have a distinct look to them. They are depicted as small women with feline features, typically with a tail no discernable feline ears. Long hair and goggles ususally with a pattern of an eye and some other symbol.
Killing a Yurine will break the bond she has with a Karas thus reviving the Karas in their actual human body, another Yurine will be born to replace it at some point but it will not be the same Yurine as before and will have its own distinct personality.

Fiends:

Otherwise known as demons, coexist with humans and cannot exist without humans. Typically invisible to humans except those who have a sensitivity to supernatural phenomena. Typically fiends are benign and do not wish to harm humans but some can become enraged at how humanity has all but forgotten about them which lead some to do drastic things in order to restore a "healthy fear" of fiends.

Mikura:

These are fiends who have incorporated human technology into their bodies which allow them to manifest and interact in the human realm with a devestating degree. They typically assume a false human body in order to blend in with the humans. Mikura however possess a weakness, they require human blood to sustain their mechanized bodies. Typically when they transform it is a grotesque abhoration of their previous fiend form equipped with numerous weapons both physical and supernatural. They can interact on the human plane or the supernatural plane while in their Mikura form. They are incapable of moving at the same speed as a Karas in the supernatural realm.

So, if everyone wanted to be a karas, we would all have to be from differnt cities?

What happens if a city is destroied, but not the Yurine of that city, does the Yurine die or is the yurine like,,, oh well lets go somewhere else?

If you are a karas, does that mean you can not go into you human body no more? You just a ghost that can become a tank, guyver, or jetfighter at random?

No, like Kai said, the Karas is a contract between a human soul and a Yurine, so as long as the contracts in working form you can't go back to your body. It just means you can't interact with the mortal world since your just a spirit unless your armoured as the karas.

Although I might have some ideas I ythat could be cool so I'll need to grab kai for that over msn at some point.

Yes, it is a one to one ratio with Karas' and Yurines.

If the city is destroyed and every human being dies then the Yurine will die.

Only one Yurine per city. The only exception is for whatever reason that the Yurine is incapacitated and unable to preform her duties then a new one will be created, as seen in the second OAV of Karas.

If you are a Karas you can only return to your body if the Karas contract is broken.

You can only actively use the two alternate forms of Karas if you are still Karas.

Another question, being a karas that means there has to be a pretty good reason for you to leave your own city right? maybe i will try and watch this to see what its all about.

A Karas only leaves their assigned city if there's something huge happening in another city that could eventually spill into their own. They have a code not to interfer with another city's affairs unless its something huge.

I didn't think the second part was out yet. I'll need to go hunt it down.

KARAS is one of those rare epic animes and IS a must see.

What I've got thus far for an idea is that if a city is of sufficient size then it would only be logical to have multiple Karas' assigned to represent certain districts within the city if it should be deemed large enough.

So I propose the RPG take place in some sort of futuristic mega city which would allow multiple Karas' to interact on an ongoing basis?

Any thoughts??
