Chapter 3:
Let’s Get Medaphsyical! (2)

Despite knowing that he was going to go far in the competition, Rune was surprised when it was announced over the loud speaker that there was only three competitors left, if he won his next match, then he was going to go on to fight Zeptha for the championship title.
Trey had been knocked out of the match not long after Kelly unfortunately, both of whom now stood off to the sides and eagerly awaited for the fight they knew was going to come between him and Zeptha. Rune didn’t think Arcsaber would be ready to go up against some of the competitors that were here, he had even doubted his own abilities as a Medafighter, but as he advanced further and further, he realized that maybe Trey was right. Maybe he really didn’t know how to be anything else other then a Medafighter.

“You seem to be getting nervous” Kelly chirped in his ear through the ear piece he still wore.

“Just a tiny bit” he admitted reluctantly, knowing that denying it would only be useless, Kelly usually quiet aware of his emotions, today was no difference. “I shouldn’t be, but I’m surprised at this current standing, it almost seems, appropriate somehow.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean” Trey agreed.

“Whatever, just go get ready for you next robattle, you have to win this one so you can fight Zeptha and show him just how a real Medafighter should fight” Kelly told him.

Rune just smirked, and a few seconds later he clenched his fist together. “Don’t worry, I’m going to drive that asshole into the ground……”

* * *

Amongst the crowd, Dynast and Tora walked about casually, they could easily blend in without anyone taking notice of them, anyone would simply think they were just someone’s Medabots and not give them a second glance. They had reasoned after a long debate – which Dynast had won – that the evil Medabot they were looking for was after Rare Medals and they were quiet aware that there were a few Medafighters in the town that had Medabots that possessed rare medals and so they had decided to come to and guard the City Robattling Tournament. Though really Dynast just wanted to watch the robattles.

“Did you watch any of those robattles! Did you see how that Cyberdog took out that GKD type Medabot? It was so fast, I’ve never seen a Medabot move like that before” Dynast said in an almost excited tone.

“I don’t know, that Arcsaber has some pretty smooth moves” Tora said quietly, almost girlish, much to Dynast’s surprise. “He was soooo cool!”

“Must be a cat thing” Dynast thought stupidly, but then something seemed to surge inside him, in his medal, warning him of something and causing him to stop suddenly as he looked around, Tora doing exactly the same thing. “You feel that?” he asked seriously.

“Yeah, that thing’s definitely here, but his medal it feels weird. I’ve felt a rare medal before, but this is totally different but we can still feel it as if it really was a rare medal, how is that possible?” she wonder out loud.

“I don’t know but we’re going to have to keep our optics opened the whole time or this guy slip straight past us, or knock us senseless, whichever is easiest for him I guess” Dynast stated with his eyes darting back and forth.

“Its time for the Semi Finalist Robattle!” announced a referee.

Dynast turned around and saw the Medabots Cyberdog and Arcsaber with their Medafighters walking up on stage. “Whoa alright! This is going to be one cool robattle!” he said excitedly, forgetting almost instantly about the evil Medabot.

* * *

Rune walked onto the arena stage once again, his cloak swaying about around him with Arcsaber at his side. He stared at his military clothes wearing opponent, dressed from head to toe like an the military nut he was, and his camouflage colored Medabot standing next to him with its battle rifles beautifully polished.

“Arcsaber vs Cyberdog!” the referee announced with the crowd cheering loudly.

Cyberdog
Medafighter: Griffon Gibson
DOG-4157-5
Dog Type
Specialty: Shooting
Other Specialty: Max Targeting

“Griffon” Rune said inwardly as he stared at his old friend. They had been friends for a long time and even to this day they still maintained a friendship, but that had been strained due to the constant self pity trip Rune had been on for the last three years, so they didn’t talk much any more. Rune wondered if that would change now that he was to a certain point, back to normal.

However, for right now he had to push those thoughts aside and concentrate on winning, as the good and bad news was that he knew all of Cyberdog’s moves and the bad news being that Griffon’s Medabot was perfectly balanced offensively and defensively with great armor and excellent fire power. This wasn’t going to be an easy match, Griffon and Cyberdog had been the other team members of Team Australia during the World Championship Robattle tournament, and one didn’t get that ranking without being very skilled.

“Hey Stranger!” Griffon called, Rune looked straight at him. “You’re a great Medafighter but you should know that I was once a representative of this country and I will not lose to someone like you. So I hope you’re prepared, to kiss your bot goodbye!!”

“…..Medafighters Robattle!!” the referee announced.

“Yeah, yeah!!!” Arcsaber yelled as he dove head first into battle.

“Take out his legs Cyberdog!” Griffon commanded.

Arcsaber saw the DOG raise its rifle. “Ohh!” as he dodged one shot. “Ahh!” he cried again as he dodged another one. “That all you got little doggy?!” he asked arrogantly.

“Fancy footwork” Griffon said in awe.

“Can it Arcsaber” Rune hissed. “Cyberdog is not a Medabot to be messed with. Get in close and strike its left side, you’ll put him off balance and that should give you enough time to take him out, just don’t underestimate him or he’ll kick your bot. Be careful though, I don’t know what kind of upgrades Griffon has made to it.”

Arcsaber only gave a slight nod that he had heard him and went to charge forth, only to be hit squarely in the chest by a shot from Cyberdog’s battle rifle and was sent flying backwards with a scream. He hit the ground and rolled backwards and came to a stop just at the edge of the arena, much to Arcsaber’s dismay, he quickly rolled away from the edge and jumped back to his feet just in time to avoid another barrage of lasers.

“Warning 50% damage to torso unit” warned Rune’s watch.

“He’s increased the power output of the battle rifles, one more shot like that from just one of those rifles and Arcsaber’s going to be down for the count. Damn it, I knew Griffon was going to be tough, why didn’t I switch Arcsaber’s sword arm out with a bombarder?” Rune cursed himself.

Cyberdog started running towards Arcsaber who was now strafing along laying down a suppressing line of fire that Cyberdog was just as easily avoiding. The two Medabots quickly turned the match into a test of speed to see who was faster and so far they were at a stalemate, they dodged the others attacks with ease and skill. Arcsaber charged Cyberdog again, changing course without warning and just as Cyberdog fired his rifles in a combined shot, Arcsaber went into a baseball slide and slid straight under the attack, surprising Cyberdog. The STG type Medabot jumped and delivered a powerful uppercut that knocked Cyberdog backwards.

“Warning 70% damage to main head unit” warned Griffon’s medawatch.

“Oh no, Cyberdog!” Griffon cried out in shock, he had barely seen Arcsaber move.

“Good job!” Rune congratulated him. “Now finish him off!”

Arcsaber got closer to the DOG type and leveled his cannons at its head, but just as the referee was about to declared Arcsaber the winner, Cyberdog kicked up and knocked Arcsaber’s arms out of the way and put STG type off balance. Using this to his advantage, Cyberdog jumped up and slammed into Arcsaber, knocking him backwards.
Arcsaber turned around just in time to see Cyberdog’s left arm going around to punch him but he caught in his right hand went to attack with his sword on his left arm but Cyberdog countered in the same way. But growled and grunted as they pushed against each other. All this while their Medafighters stood on the side lines a little stunned at how the battle was turning out.

“This is all wrong” Rune thought. “Cyberdog doesn’t have that type of strength, what did Griffon do? Did he upgrade the power output to the medaparts to increase Cyberdog’s strength. How did he do it though without sacrificing his speed though?”

Cyberdog went to kick but Arcsaber quickly brought his leg up and blocked the attack, they continued to do this for a few seconds with loud clangs echoing through across the arena until finally Cyberdog used Arcsaber’s own weight against him and threw him across the arena like he was nothing but a simple toy. Arcsaber sailed through the air, flipping and somersaulting before landing in a crouch, just Cyberdog fired again. Arcsaber started running forward and then moved sideward to avoid the shots and then fired a volley of blasts from his laser cannon.

“We’re never going to win like this Arcsaber” Rune said exasperated, as Arcsaber moved back to where he had started, as had Cyberdog, both of them now standing in front of their Medafighters.

“Well what do you suggest?!” Arcsaber snapped.

“I don’t know. Cyberdog is more advance then it should be. The all round power output is some how much more powerful then it should be too, I’ve seen other Mk 5 DOG types in battle before, and none of them even compare to this level of ability” Rune said, at a loss for what to do, then he stared directly at Griffon who looked more determined then he had ever seen him look before. Then it happened, the air around Griffon and Cyberdog seemed to darken, and causing them to glow in an eerie bluish light, Rune realized in an instant what was happening.

“Whoa, what’s going on?!” Arcsaber asked, faltering a little bit as he took a step back.

“The Robattle Spirit! The Soul of the Medabot and the Medafighter combined” Rune breathed. “Griffon really has come a long way in the last three years. Arcsaber and I aren’t even close to that kind of bond yet, how can we combat such determination?”

“Go Arcsaber!” Rune turned around to see Kelly and Trey at the side lines, cheering loudly.

“Come on Rune, lets get medabusy!” Arcsaber said confidently, in a tone that Rune remembered Zeri using so often when a battle got tough. “Together we can beat them!” Arcsaber added and prepared himself

Under the mask, Rune smiled. “I guess that answers my question then. I have to win this for them because all they went to the trouble of getting me back into this world, the life I had forgotten. I will not lose, I will not give up so easily god damn it! I’m sorry Griffon, but I can not let you win this one! Arcsaber, ATTACK MODE!!” Rune ordered in a booming voice, while unbeknownst to him, everything around him and Arcsaber darkened, and caused them to glow in the same light that surrounded Griffon and Cyber, but this was five times greater then theirs.

“Oh my god” Griffon said in shock. “I’ve never seen a robattle spirit so strong before! This is…unbelievable!! This is the kind of robattle I’ve dreamt of! Ok, Stranger, you think you can beat me, BRING IT ON!!”

Arcsaber charged forth with Cyberdog firing madly at him, but the STG type wouldn’t allow himself to be hit and was slipping between the blasts like they were nothing. He jumped and rolled out of the way of more blasts, dodging them with acrobatic grace and skill and kept on charging towards Cyberdog without decreasing his speed.

“Prepare to kiss your bot goodbye!” Arcsaber declared as he jumped into the air, his sword sliding out of its sheath.

“Go for it Arcsaber!” Rune yelled out.

“Cyberdog finish it!” Griffon ordered.

At the same time, Arcsaber descended from the sky and slammed the flat of his blade on top of Cyberdog’s head with all his strength while Cyberdog brought both his battle rifles around and fired a combined blast at point blank range at Arcsaber’s chest, blasting him back across the arena. Everything went silent as both Medabots froze in place, the tension in the air was thick, with sparks buzzing around both Arcsaber and Cyberdog.
Suddenly Arcsaber let out a loud groan and slowly pulled himself up, his whole torso badly damaged and sparking and was badly cracked. Everyone turned to stare at Cyberdog who still remained motionless, which was when a large crack appeared on his head and it let out a cry of what accounted for pain for Medabots and toppled backwards.

“Function ceased! The winner is Arcsaber!” announced the referee causing Griffon collapsed to his knee’s in shock, just staring at his fallen Medabot in shock.

“Arcsaber go sleepy now” announced the STG type Medabot and promptly shut down, with his medal chamber flipping open and the medal popping out..

“Arcsaber!” Rune said in alarm and ran out on to the arena.

* * *

“Whoa, he took some serious damage in that battle didn’t he?” Zero said as he looked at Arcsaber all spread out on the table.

His tin pet had two big holes in it and was scorched black, not to mention the multiple cracks then ran over it. Rune looked at it a little stressed, he couldn’t repair something like this by himself and with the tools he had. Even the nanites in the tin pet couldn’t repair this much damage without some serious heavy duty regen chambers, even then they wouldn’t be able to repair that much of the damage.

“Yeah, his tin pet is trashed, I can’t use it again” Rune said with a sight of frustration, his hand clenching around the screw driver so tightly that his knuckles were turning white. “What am I going to do Zero, I don’t have a spare tin pet and even if I did, I would get be pushing the time before I have to fight Zeptha. You know I’m also tempted to make Griffon pay for a new tin pet.”

Zero thought for a moment, the he snapped his fingers with a smile as he held up his watch pushed in the face. “Transport Medabot!” The pale blue light shot out of the watch and hit the ground before rebounding into the air formed into a sphere, a few seconds later a Medabot appeared in a burst of light.

Turbo
Medafighter: Zero Miles
CAR-3118
Car Type
Specialty: Crash Attack
Other Specialty: Shooting
Medal: Rabbit

“You can borrow my tin pet and I’ll just have my dad bring my spare down to use until you’ve brought a new one for Arcsaber, though if you let Zeptha trash this one, you’ll be paying for two new tin pets” Zero explained, the last part was more of a warning.

“Its not like I can’t afford it” Rune smirked.

“Yeah, yeah smart ass” Zero

“Hey!” came Arcsaber’s shouts and they both looked down at Rune’s medawatch. “Stop chatting and hurry up and fix my body!”

* * *

Trey and Kelly walked into the area where Griffon was busy repairing Cyberdog, who was walking around in a spare body, a Mk 1 version of its proper body. Griffon looked like he had accepted hit defeat and had a pleasant smile on his face, until he noticed the two of them, then he frowned.

“What do you two want?” he asked a little coldly.

“Hey what’s with the sudden chilly temperature?” Trey asked.

Griffon snorted. “What? You think I didn’t notice you two cheering on Arcsaber and that Stranger guy? I thought you two were my friends” he said a little icily and went back to working on one of Cyberdog’s arms when suddenly Kelly knelt down behind him and wrapped her arms around him, catching him off guard as she pressed her chest into his back causing him to blush madly as soon as he realized what it was pressing into his back and caused him to drop both his work tool and Medabot’s arm..

“Oh don’t be mad, we had a good reason for why we were cheering him on, but if you don’t want to know, then we’ll just leave” she shrugged and went to back off when suddenly Griffon grabbed her arms and kept her in place, this caused her to smiled triumphantly.

“Ok I forgive you. So tell me why you were cheering for them?” Griffon asked nervously.

Kelly leant in closer breathing closely to his ear when she said. “You have to wait till the end of the tournament just like everyone else. But be sure to watch the next match, its going to be very interesting.”

And with that she gave him a little peck on the cheek and then left with Trey, leaving Griffon in a state of shock and his face scarlet, he then looked over at Cyberdog who was shaking his head in disgust.

“What?” Griffon asked defensively.

“Your so pathetic around pretty girls” Cyberdog replied and was hit in the head by a screw driver.

“Like you don’t go gah, gah over Destiny!” Griffon shouted, this issued a sudden wrestling match between the two.

* * *

Rune instinctively wiped his forehead to wipe away the sweat, forgetting about the head mask he was wearing and only succeeded in causing the mask to stick terribly to his skin. It was so hot and he so wanted to take the stupid masked off, but in truth, he was too scare of Kelly to even attempt it.

He fixed the last of Arcsaber’s armor into place and put the medal into the chamber and a few seconds later the STG type powered up. “So how its feel?” he asked his Medabot as he stood up and let the STG type flex its arms.

“Feels second hand” Arcsaber said casually.

“HEY!” Zero exclaimed.

“No offence” Arcsaber replied.

“Well you ready to kick some bot?” Rune asked.

“Oh yeah, Zeptha and Zeris are going down” Arcsaber said just a little too confidently as he aimed his laser cannon and pretended to fire off a round.

“Yeah well I wouldn’t be too over confident, Zeris and Zeptha’s robattle spirit is very strong and they’re not going to go down easily. No doubt Zeptha was watching our battles and was probably analyzing everything you did, by now he probably already knows your strengths and weakness so he’ll have something planned for us, that’s why, you’re going to be using this instead of a laser cannon” Rune said as he pressed his medawatch. A beam of energy shot out and hit Arcsaber’s laser cannon arm and a few seconds later, replaced it with a CAR type rocket launcher arm. “Now you have speed as well as power, the arm shouldn’t slow you down much as your legs are designed to carry heavy armor while providing great speed, I figure this is the best combination for you to fight Zeris.”

“Don’t forget though, aiming is essential if you’re going to use an arm like that as these rockets don’t have a lock on feature and remember, Zeris is extremely fast, probably as fast as you Arcsaber” Zero warned.

“How is that possible? I know for a fact that DVL Mk 1 types don’t have that type of speed, and he sure as hell didn’t have that kind of speed before I retired” Rune said.

“Well my guess would, knowing your brother, Zeptha released Zeris’s power and speed limiter, which would be for any normal Medabot, very dangerous, but Zeris is like Zeri, some how he is able to handle things that would put a normal Medabot out for the count. Zeris is probably the toughest Medabot around and if Zeptha has released the power and speed limiter, then Zeris is going to have higher endurance too” Zero explained.

Rune frowned. “Great, just what we need.”

“Well, you could release Arcsaber’s limiters as well” Zero suggested with a devilish smile.

“Un huh. We’ll beat them fair and square and show them how real Medafighters and Medabots fight” Rune said, he wasn’t going to stoop down to his brother’s level.

“Yeah” Arcsaber agreed

* * *

Rune and Arcsaber calmly walked up on to their side of the arena, while Zeptha and Zeris were already waiting rearing to go it appeared. Rune couldn’t help but noticed the smirk on Zeptha’s face as he spied the Rocket Launcher arm.

“You got something to say?” Rune asked, narrowing his eyes under the mask.

“I just can’t believe your so scared of us that you would want to use that thing. I’ve watched you robattle and I thought you were smarter then that. Even if your Medabot has great aiming there’s no way in hell that you’re going to be able to beat Zeris with that stupid thing. And I was hoping for an interesting robattle too” Zeptha said, feigning disappointment.

Rune growled at his brother, Zeptha was right though, even if he was only trying to psyche him out, Zeris was way to fast for Arcsaber to hit with the Rocket Launcher, choosing that part had been a mistake and all the medaparts he had were sure hit medaparts but, they wouldn’t be enough to do much damage to Zeris’s armor.

“Alright, you want an interesting robattle, I’ll give you one” Rune declared before pressing the face of his watch. “Transport, medapart!”

“What?! What are you doing?!” Arcsaber demanded as the Rocket Launcher disappeared and was soon replaced with a arm part that made even Zeptha falter a little.

“You like hand to hand combat fighting, well so do I! Lets see how your Medabot stands up against Arcsaber’s DVL Mk 2 arm” Rune smirked at his brother’s sudden caution, Zeptha knew the stakes had just been raised higher. Rune brought the watch closer to his mouth to speak with Arcsaber. “Ok listen Arcsaber, that arm I just gave you might slow you down a little, but that arm can do so much damage to an opponent that it can cause a function cease immediately in whichever part you punch your opponent in. Be careful though, if you put to much power behind the punch you’ll end up cracking the fist. This is going to be rough so if I tell you to do something do it without hesitating, Zeptha and Zeris are no ordinary team. By now Zeptha has probably come up with a strategy to get around your arm, so stay alert.”

“Ok, we’ll do this your way Rune” Arcsaber replied quietly.

“Medafighters ready!?” the referee called out.

“Damn straight!” both Rune and Zeptha replied at the same time

“Medafighters robattle!!” the referee shouted.

“Go for it!” both Medafighters ordered.

Arcsaber and Zeris charged at each other with battle cries, the determination of both their Medafighters driving them. Once he was close enough Arcsaber drove his fist forward but at the last moment, Zeris jumped on to the arm and then rebounded off, somersaulting over Arcsaber and landing behind him. The DVL type then swung its own fist around, but Arcsaber already knew what his opponent was planning and jumped out of its reach.

“You got some moves on yah pal!” Arcsaber complemented him as he landed and spun around to face Zeris.

“Ditto” replied the DVL Medabot as the two of them begun to size each other up.

Arcsaber extended his sword and ran forth again, side stepping as Zeris punched at him and swung his sword around to connect with Zeris’s back and sending the DVL type flying forward a few feet.

“Warning 30% damage to Medal Chamber!” warned Zeptha’s watch.

Zeris rolled to the side as Arcsaber came crashing down from above, smashing his fist into the ground where Zeris had been, sending small fissures shooting out from the impact zone. Zeris was quickly back on his feet and lunged at Arcsaber, who was only just beginning to stand up and punched the STG type in the head, sending him flying to the side.

“Warning 50% damage to head part!” Rune heard his watch say.

“Arcsaber, try to get behind him!” Rune ordered.

“What do you think I’m trying to do?!” Arcsaber hissed as Zeris jumped at him again, this time he was ready and interlocked his hands with Zeris and initiated a game of mercy, both putting all their strength into pushing against the other, but it was a stand still.

“Come on Arcsaber, you have to over power him or the judge will give Zeptha the win on account of points!” Rune warned him.

“Then you get in here and fight him!” Arcsaber snapped.

Finally the two Medabots admitted defeat and jumped back from each other and started to size each other up again as circled one another. Rune was scanning every movement Zeris made, hoping beyond hope that he would see an opening for Arcsaber to use, but Zeptha had trained his Medabot too well, Zeris was too careful to slip up. Rune growled in frustration knowing that.
Suddenly Arcsaber and Zeris attacked each other again, Zeris swinging around his Hammer Fist arm and Arcsaber driving his DVL Mk 2 arm forward, both with tremendous speed and before either of them could react, they smashed they’re fists into one another. Sparks flew up Arcsaber’s arm as the Hammer Fist smashed into it, causing him to scream out, but at the same time his power punch arm had completely shattered the armor around the Hammer Fist arm.

“Warning, 100% damage to right arm, function ceased!” announced, both Rune and Zeptha’s watches as they’re Medabots right arm’s shut down.

“You’ve lost you Power Punch arm, what do you plan to do now I wonder?” Zeptha asked in a smug tone that caused Rune to clench his teeth in anger and irritation. “Don’t tell me you were placing all your pathetic hopes and dreams on that one part? What kind of Medafighter are you?”

Rune’s eyes flared with anger. “What kind of Medafighter am I?! I’m the Medafighter that’s kicked your ass many times, brother!!” Rune snapped as he threw back the hood and ripped off the mask, revealing himself to everyone, who all instantly went quiet, though none were more shocked, if not fearful, then Zeptha.

“RUNE YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER YOU BEAT HIM!!!” Kelly screamed out from the crowd, causing Rune to glance nervously at her, he knew he was going to cop an earful about it later, not that there was anything he could do about it now, still he had gotten the reaction he had wanted from Zeptha, so he didn’t care one bit what Kelly would say.

“Yes well” Rune said, recomposing himself and turned back to Zeptha who was just starting to recover from the shock. “What’s wrong brother? You wanted to know what kind of Medafighter I am, so come and find out, I’m ready to go, what about you Arcsaber?”

“Bring it on!” Arcsaber nodded.

“Well there you have it Zeptha, we’re ready to kick you butt, so are you ready to lose?” Rune asked repositioned the cloak so that it rested behind his shoulder.

Zeptha couldn’t help but growl. “You think you can beat me with that defective piece of trash?! I accept your challenge dear brother! Lets end this!!”

“Fine with me!!” Rune replied.

“ATTACK MODE!!” the two brothers screamed in unison.

* * *

“You knew that was Rune and you wouldn’t tell me?!” Lisa demanded as she grabbed Trey by the throat and started shaking him, even as he tried to pry her hands from his neck. Suddenly though the whole center was engulfed in a dark bluish grey light that surprised everyone and made them go quiet as they watched. Lisa even let go of Trey as they turned around to watch it themselves.

“Whoa, look at that” Trey said in awe as he, Kelly, Lisa, Griffon and Zero all stared at Rune and Zeptha on the arena stage, they’re Medabots standing still where they were, with the Robattle Spirit spread out over the center, filling every corner with it, everyone could feel it, even the weakest of the Medafighters could feel it.

“Separately their Robattle Spirits are immense and impressive, but combined together like this, fighting against one another, they’re Robattle Spirit is probably the most powerful ever generated until now” Griffon said, he could contain the awe in his voice either.

“Imagine what it would be like, if they were to work together” Zero said quietly

* * *

“Ok, Arcsaber, lets take him out with one hit. Two at the very most!” Rune said determinedly. “Zeptha knows that this is the only way this is going to end as well. Zeris is getting himself ready to strike you with that claw of his. He’ll attack in a downward strike that will inflict massive damage to your head part first, and the rest of the damage acts like a shockwave, spreading throughout your body and will cause you to shut down. He tried this on Zeri once, Zeptha had taught the move to him and they almost beat us too, but I had doubled Zeri’s armor so it didn’t cause enough damage to shut him down. You however, despite being well armored, don’t have the same luxury so you’ll have to hit him before he hits you.”

“How?!” Arcsaber demanded trying to get himself ready.

“Just move when I tell you to, just try to look like your getting ready to attack” Rune spoke calmly.

Arcsaber did as he was told and shifted into one of very few battle stances that Rune had only taught him the night before. Across from him Zeris was standing with his remaining arm ready to strike, slightly though, they’re Medafighters stared back at each other, almost as if they were staring into a mirror that showed the opposite of their souls. Rune was determined not to let his brother win, he wasn’t going to lose now that he had made such an announcement, he had to beat Zeptha no matter what.

“ZERIS ATTACK!!” Zeptha suddenly snapped.

Zeris just quickly ran forth, until he was a few feet from Arcsaber and jumped into the air, his claw raised above his head, and Arcsaber just waiting below him, following his every movement and waiting for Rune’s order.

Then Rune saw it. “Arcsaber Spin Kick!” he yelled.

Arcsaber acted on impulse, not really registering what Rune had said until he was spinning on the ball of his foot and lashing out with the other, which much to Arcsaber’s surprise, connected with Zeris’s chest and sent him flying through the air and landing with a loud thud in the middle of the arena.

“Arcsaber, take him out now!” Rune ordered.

“Prepare to kiss your bot goodbye!” Arcsaber declared as ran forth and Zeris slowly started to get back up from the attack, the DVL type turned its head just in time to have Arcsaber punch him square in the face and causing it to scream out in pain as it was knocked back again, rolling across the arena floor like it had been hit by a freight train, and then fell out of the arena, where it hit the center floor in a heap. Almost instantly, Zeris’s medal popped out and bounced across the floor.

“Function Ceased! The winner is Arcsaber!” announced the Referee causing the crowd to start cheering loudly, while Arcsaber collapsed to one knee and supported himself on his good arm and the Robattle Spirit died down and the lighting returned to normal, not that many noticed this as they cheered the winners.

“Yes! We did it Arcsaber! We did it!!” Rune laughed in disbelief, then he spotted Zeptha who was standing there, in shook, completely stiff and staring off into space almost. Rune couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for him, which was what prompted him to start walking towards him and it wasn’t until he was right in front of his brother that Zeptha even noticed him.

“Come to gloat?” he asked coldly.

Rune shook his head. “No, I came to thank you” he said calmly and civilized like, he then extended his hand to Zeptha. “For a great Robattle, I’m glad we battle together and I hope we’ll be able to again, but next time, lets just robattle, none of this throwing challenges around like we always do ok? Just a straight up, one on one robattle.”

Zeptha eyed him suspiciously, looking down at his hand and then back up at his face, but before he had the chance to reply, them a Medabot unlike any they had ever seen before landed beside them.

“What the hell, I was going to wait and catch you off guard some other time, but I realized that your not going to drop your guard again in battle, so I’ll just take your rare medal now!” the Medabot announced as he picked up Zeris’s medal.

“Don’t count on it buddy!” Zeptha said as both he and Rune made an attempt to grab it, but Medabot held its hand up and without warning, a black energy beam fired from it in much the way as a Gravity Cannon Arm part, and blasted the two brothers backwards.

“Two foolish children can not hope to beat me, Nexus! The strongest of all Medabots” he announced as he unhooked a spiked chain whip from his back and prepared to attack them with it, but as he did a blast of lasers bombarded him and caused him to take a step backwards, then two more Medabots jumped down out of no where, an old red KBT Mk 1 and a blue CAT type that looked slightly different then a normal CAT type. “Who dares to interfere with me?!” Nexus demanded.

“The names Dynast and that’s Tora, now drop the medal and we’ll scrap you quickly” Dynast ignored him with his laser cannon aimed and ready to fire and electricity sparking from Tora’s prong like claws.

“Oh yeah?” Nexus said and quickly attacked with his whip, but before it could hit Dynast, Rune was suddenly in front of him and caught the whip, one of the spike biting deeply into his hand as grabbed another part with his other hand and braced himself, shocking Nexus. “What?!”

“I know Medabot weapons, and this stupid thing isn’t made out of M-alloy, or it would have ripped my hand apart. This thing is no more powerful then one I could make, and even then it would have more bite then this second hand piece of crap!” Rune spat at the Medabot. “I gave up too quickly once, and because of me, I lost one of my most important friends, I will not let my brother suffer the same pain!!” Rune snarl, clenching his teeth against the pain as blood dripped from his wounds.

“You’re a fool to challenge me boy!” Nexus roared and went to pull his whip back, but Rune had an iron grip on it and wasn’t going to let it go so quickly, even with the spikes ripping slowly through his skin.

“Whoever you two are! FUCKING ATTACK HIM!” Rune shouted at Dynast and Tora as they stood and watched his face contort with pain.

“Right!” Dynast nodded and turned back to Nexus. “ROCKET LAUNCH!” two rockets shot out of Dynast’s horn’s and slammed into Nexus and exploded.

“Arrgghh!” Nexus cried out and a second later Rune noticed Zeris’s medal drop on to the ground and bounce away from Nexus, causing him to smile as he let go of the chain, which slipped through his hands, the spikes tearing through his skin even more and caused Nexus to trip backwards.

“Rune are you ok?” he turned around and saw Kelly, Trey, Griffon, Zero and even Lisa running up on to the arena, with their Medabots – except for Turbo – in front of them.

“Yeah, just a few scratches” he winced as he held his bloody hand, a hole going through it. He calmly got up, pushing the pain away. “I’ll be fine, just get Zeris’s medal, it fell over there some where.”

“Rune, transport me some Medaparts so I can get Medaphsyical on this guy!” Arcsaber demanded, obviously not wanting to be left out.

“You got it buddy” Rune nodded and pushed the face of his watch. “Transport, medaparts!”

Both of Arcsaber’s normal arms returned to his body and he was practically as good as new and ready to go again, but for how long he would be able to last would determined by how strong this Nexus really was.
Arcsaber and the other Medabots attacked the evil Medabot with everything they had while Zero left his friends to find Zeris’s medal. Nexus was a fast Medabot and he wasn’t joking when he said he was strong. He knocked Ironclaw and Destiny back with one punch while Arcsaber, Fatalis and Cyberdog all attacked with their combined strength, but even then Nexus was barely moved and inch. Then Dynast and Tora attacked in a synchronized sequence that spoke wonders for whoever trained them, even Rune looked slightly awed at the display. Dynast boosted Tora higher into the air and fired off another two missiles that smashed into Nexus while Tora fell down on top of him and unleashed a powerful and massive electrical blast that blasted all the Medabots around Nexus backwards, except fro Dynast who had braced himself for the attack.

“Did they get him?” Kelly asked anxiously.

The black smoke started to dissipate and Nexus was still standing, seemingly strong, but his body was covered in scorch marks and residual electricity still sparked all over his body, causing him to twitch every few seconds, but really he didn’t look at all badly damaged from the attack.

“A nicely orchestrated attack” Nexus grunted. “Fine you win today, but only because I’m smart enough not to push my luck, know this though. I know that Medabot possesses one of the rare medals I need, and when you least expect it, I will take it from you and I will destroy you and any else that gets in my way. Goodbye!” Nexus suddenly jumped into the air and blew hole through the roof with his black energy beam attack and then shot through it and disappeared from sight.

Rune dropped to one knee suddenly, grabbing his badly wounded arm and startling his friends and family, with the exception of Zeptha who had stood back in shock as the people who he had so brutally tormented and mocked all the time had tried to save his Medabot’s medal. He couldn’t understand why they would, least of all Rune who had even sacrificed himself and gotten hurt in the process.

“I found it!” Zero said triumphantly as he held up Zeris’s medal, but it was suddenly snatched from his hand as Zeptha ran forward and grabbed the medal and then ran off, carrying Zeris’s body under one arm.

“Hey, don’t we even get a thank you at least for our trouble?!” Kelly yelled after him.

“Let him go” Rune told her tiredly. “But if someone could get me a medic to treat these wounds it would be greatly appreciated.”

An hour or so later Rune stood at the center of the arena with Arcsaber beside him and his bad arm held in a sling while he and his Medabot waited for the referee to present them with their trophy. It had taken an hour to get everyone settled and to clean up the mess Nexus had made, and Rune had spent most of that time get his arm and hand treated, he was lucky enough to get out of it with mostly scratches, some strained muscles and a hole through his hand. People had hoped Dynast and Tora would have stayed around so they get a better look at the mysterious Medabots, or at least they’re Medafighter or Medafighters, but they had gone as quickly as they had came.
Finally Rune saw the referee walking up onto the arena carrying a large trophy with some effort, Rune was smiling on the outside but inside he was as happy as ever, he had forgotten what it was like to win a competition like this, and he hadn’t been lying when he had said to Zeptha that he had been glad they could have such a great robattle and he hoped to have another one soon.

“This years City Wide Robattle Champion is Rune Daniels and his Medabot Arcsaber!” said the announcer over the speakers as Rune inclined his head slightly at the referee as he took the trophy and held it in the air with his good arm causing the crowd to start cheering again. “But trophy isn’t all Rune has won!” said the announcer suddenly.

Rune saw Kelly, Trey, Griffon and Zero staring behind him and he turned around to see two men lift what looked to be like a giant silver box on to the arena, he looked at it in confusion before the referee handed him a remote with a singular button on it. Realizing the obvious, Rune pressed the button and the front of the silver box opened up with a hiss and Rune’s eyes widened at what he saw.

It was a new, full assembled Medabot.

Later that Night

Zero walked into the storage room out the back of the 24M-Shop with a calm look on his face, the site of Tora and Dynast using the tools spread out on a large metal table in the middle of the room didn’t faze him at all, he just looked around calmly.

“He isn’t here yet?” Zero asked.

“Nah, later as usual” Dynast replied as tightened a screw on the inside of his arm. “Probably saw a pretty girl and decided to follow her instead…oww! Hey what did you do that for!” he demanded after the wrench bounced off his head, Tora having thrown it at him.

“Lonewolf is not a stalker you defective piece of scrap metal” Tora hissed slightly.

“Can it you two” all three of them turned their heads to see Lonewolf coming via the back entrance, his white cloak was filthy and they all stared at him in confusion, he sighed miserably at them. “I tripped and fell off a building” he said, knowing they wouldn’t leave him alone until he told them.

“And into a dumpster?!” Dynast asked as he eyed his Medafighter’s filthy appearance.

“Yes” Lonewolf replied sheepishly, scratching the side of his cheek. “But enough of that. I would rather hear what you two were thinking today?! Attacking Nexus like that, I told you not to engage him in battle unless I was with you! Was that so hard to follow?! I know you did it to help but those Medafighters are more then capable of looking after themselves!”

“We couldn’t just stand back and not do anything, he was out of control and he tried to steal a rare medal!” Tora said in protest.

“Just don’t do it again! If Nexus, some how found out that you two have rare medals, then he could very well come after you next!” Lonewolf snapped angrily, after a few seconds though he managed to calm himself down a bit. “Zero, did Dr. Aki get back to you about Nexus? Does he know what the hell it is, where it came from or better yet, how to kill it?” he almost demanded.

“Actually I just received an email before you arrived. Dr. Aki says that it’s was going to be a new Mk 4 DVL type, but with this Medabot, a new form of robattling was going to be introduced. A form where the actual minds of the Medabot and Medafighter synchronize via the use of this special head set, that would allow you to communicate telepathically almost with your Medabot in battle. Anyway, during a testing session a really bad storm hit in Tokyo and lightning struck the Medabot Corporation and sent an electrical surge throughout the whole building. However the poor sod who was in the middle of testing out this new battle system was hooked into everything and the electrical surge somehow transferred his mind into the body of the Medabot.” Zero explained.

He then continued after a pause for affect. “Dr. Aki says that they tried transferring his mind back into his own body, but his brain had died, and his body had become useless, leaving his mind stuck in the Medabot. Apparently though, the mind that was the Medafighter was merged with the mind of the Medabot creating a whole new persona and erasing the other two from the medal. This new mind is completely insane, and probably ten or twelve times stronger then any Medabot created to date, with the exception of Giganko but he was a whole another class in himself too. Anyway, apparently, the Select Corps tried to stop him, but he managed to escape from the Medabot corporation and somehow made it here. He’s also killed three people. He believes that the medal in Nexus is probably pulsing a power output twenty times a normal medal” he finished.

“ARE THEY CRAZY?! Giving that much power to one Medabot!!” Lonewolf snapped and kicked a shelf full of parts, when he removed his foot, part of the shelf had bent inward. “There’s no need to make a Medabot that powerful, next time I see the good old doctor, remind me to give him a punch in the nose for making my job so difficult.”

“Yeah, I know, this guy is almost impossible to track” Zero nodded.

“Ok, look, neither of you two go anywhere near Nexus. I’ll deal with him personally” Lonewolf warned them.

“With all due respect, you’re a human, and Medabots were made to fight other Medabots” Dynast pointed out, rather smugly too.

“Just do as I say and stay away from him, you got that?!” Lonewolf snapped again.

“Yes sir” Tora and Dynast replied dryly.

"Yeah, I'll see you three tomorrow night, remember, no hero stuff ok" Lonewolf said again, and left just as quietly as he had arrived.

The darkness outside was like a blanket over the city, the only lights came from street lamps and the occasional house or big building. Clouds had gathered over head, giving Lonewolf the impression that a storm was brewing. Lonewolf jumped up to the tallest building in the city, which happened to be the Australian Medabot corporation, he looked over the city, wandering what Nexus's was up to and how he may've got here. He knew though, that things were getting hard, for him and his team, even with new medaparts and some new upgrades, that it wouldn't be enough to stop Nexus, he had to come up with a new plan. New allies, new weapons, something, what ever it was, he just knew he needed to act, or something bad would happen in the end.
