The Gold Saucer is an odd mix between amusement park, casino, and show theater. This park has rides, gambling dense, and one of the most high tech stages in the world, suited for anything from theatrical production to full orchestra performances. The Gold Saucer also has Gaia's most advanced chocobo race tracks, and only the best birds of the best are allowed to race in its arena. And for anybody wishing to spend the night at the Gold Saucer, even their accommodations are given a taste of the exotic, albeit of the spooky horror movie sort.

The Gold Saucer was original built by Dio, with financial support from the Shinra Corporation, to cater to the more high class crowds. Over time though, the Gold Saucer has opened its doors to anybody (as long at they can afford the entrance ticket). The structure itself is, as its name suggest, a grouping of giant gold colored saucers that are held high in the sky and above the desert floor by a long golden tower.

The structure is located on the eastern side of the west continent and has its own prison built into the desert sands. Escape from this prison is nearly impossible simply because Gold Saucer is so remote and removed that most people die of dehydration before making it back to more hospitable conditions.

Asside from its arcade, interactive shoot 'em up rollercoaster, halloween themed hotel, romantic gondola rides, and chocobo racing arena; the Gold Saucer also has a battle arena to which many fighters from around the world come to prove their skills. During Shinra's rule many of the opponents a person could expect to face in the arena were horribly mutated monsters. Now-a-days the arena shows off one-on-one matches that arranged sometimes weeks in advance by an arena committee.

Within Gold Saucer, to encourage the spending of your hard-earned gold, there is a separate set of currency. Many of the most sought after attractions, shows, and gift items, require GP (gold points) to be purchased. GP can be earned from successful race bets, victories in the battle arena, or by beating the various games in the parks arcade.

Formerly, any criminals or cheaters caught within Gold Saucer would be sent down to the prisons below. Currently there is nobody within the prison as its currently under investigation for inhumane treatment of its prisoners. The investigation is being led by the new Mayor of Corel, Barret Wallace, a former member of Avalanche and one of the hero's of Gaia.

The only way to reach Gold Saucer is by Gondola Ride known as the Ropeway.
