The Island of the Ancients, or Ancient's Island, is a large island just south of the Eastern Continent's west most edge. It was on this island that the Ancients had built a great temple, which was later transformed into the black materia by the hero's of Gaia.

The island is thickly forested and unpopulated. Where the temple once stood there is now nothing more then a large crater within the earth. Finding the crater can be dangerous as it has been overgrown by fast growth vines, grasses, and because the tree line reaches right up to the edge. It is very easy to not see the crater until one has fallen straight out of the forest into it.
