yuya262 - March 23, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
Hello everybody =]
I'm new here, so instead of making a newbie introductory post, I've made a Clair fanart. I hope you don't dislike it.
[critiques are welcomed. for EXTREME critiques, please pm me. thx]
this is my first tablet drawing. better ones will hopefully come in the near future -_-'
Claire Fanart
any comments are much appreciated! ^_^

lol, I like it. From what i see (I'm not expert or anything, just my two cents) the focus is done on her human (emotional) side in the cost of her calm (claymore) side, thus in the beginning she doesn't look exactly like herself, but when i looked a bit longer it became clear that she does look like herself, just with attention shifted from one side of her to another. Good job. :)

Ow, and welcome! Hope you enjoy this place. If you want to start playing soon you should hurry up and make a character, the new training mission will launch shortly (hopefully :(). Nobody knows when the next one will be done....

And the last thing... [advertising_mode]Drop by our IRC channel #EndlessGravestones@irc.rizon.net. And consultation regarding your character or playing or whatever can be obtained there.[/advertising]

Although I don't really like Clair... your work is pretty good, not to mention this is your first tablet drawing. :)

Nice! You're really good. That looks very well drawn. Can't wait to see more!

What's a 'Tablet Drawing'?

Kolox - March 24, 2008 10:45 AM (GMT)
Nice but if you want criticism..

..thick eyebrows. Most woman don't have or try to reduce such thing. Clae has very thick one here in my opinion.

thx everybody for you appreciation. I'll try to make it the eyebrows look thinner next time, thx Kolox =]

as for Blue Dragon, tablet drawing is uhm... drawing with a Tablet PC (sorry I suck at explaining)
but a Tablet PC looks something like this:

and it is used on the computer

What tablet are you using? Anyway, it's good but the face feels too flat. You should work on adding contours to the face and generally shaping it a bit more realistically to add depth instead of using the normal anime shape for the front view in a side view.

from that angle you wouldn't see the left eye as much and there would be a groove/dip below the eye, above the cheek. The chin would be more pronounced as well, another area to consider is the left shoulder, it would be further back instead of hunched forward like it is.

overall you did a good job though, you have good strokes and good line weight/definition with them, which is important for defining materials and conveying a feeling of heaviness. Your shading is good, though a little consistant (both in strokes and light sources). But I think with even more practice you'll be a great artist.

I see. Thanks for the explanation! I Know what a 'Tablet Drawing' is!

The fact that you drew that with that little pad and electronic pen just raised you higher on my Artist Rating list!!!

You mean Claire Fanart?

Elcura - March 24, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
Isn't it obvious what he meant? Don't make such stupid posts.

yuya262 - March 24, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
yeah sorry I meant "Claire fanart" >.<

Claire is not my favorite chr in Claymore but I thought I'd wanna start drawing with my tablet with her first XD
I'm using a Bamboo tablet. I love it. it's awesome. by any chance you also use a tablet Elcura?

thx [Elcura] a lot for your detailed comment (exactly what I'm looking for!)
I have a long way to go, still weak at shading and highlighting XD

Elcura - March 24, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
I do, you should look into getting a wacom graphire 3. Those are great tablets that worked for me beautifully. Right now I'm using wacom intuios and loving every moment of it.

A tip for shading and highlighting would be to make a definite light source (1 point only at the start) and shade/highlight everything according to that 1 light source. Most people start with a light source either at the top of the page, or top left/right and make the areas closer to the light source brighter than those further away. After you get 1 point lighting down you can move onto more adventurous things and eventually it becomes second nature.

I think your and my tablet have the same brand (wacom)

thx for the advice btw
