Title: Keystone League Meet In March

bell81 - January 29, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
Can anyone tell me why that the March meet has a ? on what date it is? The date has been March 18th. Why would anyone keep changing the dates? I know myself, has other commitments all other weekends in March. That date has been there for a while now.

Does anyone else agree with me? I know that there are other meets like the one in GA on that same weekend. But not the entire league is going (at least the ones I talked to anyway) These other people like the smaller teams that look forward to the league meets because they can not afford to travel to GA for the weekend to skate. But it is only a league meet & how many people from the league is actually going to GA for that weekend? I think & this is only what I myself thinks! If you have only a handfull of the league members going that the meet should go on as planned. Does anyone else agree with me?

I myself can say if that date gets changed that my family will not support that meet in March.

We appologize for changing the meet but the reason for changing the meet is because only 1 Official would be available for that meet. We are trying our best to satisfy everyones needs but unfortunately we can not.

This stresses the need for MORE teams to get involved in the overall running of the meets. Because only a few teams can help out in the center of the floor when ONE team can not attend a meet, that shoots everything else out of the water. We are proud to have SOS, Fantasy, and the newly added Mays Landing members as part of our refereeing staff but the more people there are certified, the more people we have if something like this goes wrong! We've always encouraged new faces to be involved in everything that has to do with the league to run more efficently.

Again, we appologize for the inconvience we've cause you and your family! We are trying to change the meet this far in advance to accommodate travel arrangements that may need to be altered.

Sincerely,

Justin Foster

Hi Brenda...
And everyone else

You didn't even give me a chance to explain what is going on!
(I like to have answers before I present the problem...)
I agree many of our skaters will not be traveling down to GA. I had no plans for it either.

Believe me... I feel for you, and I understand!
From the organizers point of view... "Murphy's Law" is working overtime!
This year has just been crazy!
One of the things I really wanted to be able to accomplish this year was a set schedule for the meets and to stick with it.
It is just not working out that way, and sometimes there is just nothing you can do about it but work around it and try to be flexible.

I promise you we do not change these meets on a whim!

Some of the things we have faced this year have been....
* A rink owner who had to reschedule due to an artistic meet HE wanted to attend and would not open the rink for us without being present.
* A heating system went down, in a rink that was to host a winter meet... we couldn't have a meet in a building without heat!
* A shipment of floor coat didn't arrive on time.
* A rink was sold and shut down for renovations.
* An event was scheduled over, one of ours that our officials were committed to prior to season start.

So what do we do? What can we do?
We do our best to give the skaters the best we can.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience to all the families! I know we would all like to set a date, make a hotel reservation and go about our business.
It's just not going that way for us this year.

As for the March meet.
Did they schedule the GA meet first? I honestly do not know if it was my mistake or not. The fact is I got the information on the meet today in the mail. It was not on my schedule of upcoming events and I did not plan around it. However, Most all of our officials did commit to doing the event a long time ago and will not be available to us.

Our all of meet directors, chief placement judge, and at least four of our referees, and many of the helpers, told me on Sunday they will be out of town on March 18th. That was enough for me to decide we could not do it, and I did not continue to ask who else was going. I felt the only thing I could do was to try to reschedule.

What is available in March?
March 4th OPEN
March 11th ODSL Meet
March 18th GA Invitational
March 25th I have another commitment and can NOT attend. (But you are all welcome to go on without me if that works better for the coaches and the skaters!)

So for now, we are looking at March 4th. Provided the coaches, rink owner and officials are OK with it.

Hackettstown is an awesome rink!
Nice floor, lots of room for spectators, a play zone for the kids!
It will be a GREAT meet!

I hope you all can attend!
I'm off to practice now and will finish entering the results in the system tomorrow.
So check back tomorrow afternoon for meet results.

Thank you all for your understanding!
Sincerely
Holly Snow

:) Thank you for all that information! I do now understand why it needs to be changed! But my family will still not be able to attend.

Thanks for putting it all out there.
