Title: The Passion of the Christ
~Jewelz~ - February 28, 2004 03:08 AM (GMT)
i wrote this phat review on it just now, preachy and all. but i'm not going to post it. i'm not sure why, but i don't think i should. still, i think i should start the thread;
just to see what happens.
bottom line is; it knocked me off my feet.
and God rocks.
(not necessarily in that order)
goodnight then

awesome.. I really want to see it but our theatre is sold out for the next few days!!!
God is awesome... and the story is a TRUE one that is timeless..
and three cheers to Mel Gibson for doing it!!!!
Chapstick - February 28, 2004 04:20 AM (GMT)
I'm glad that he's made a very realistic one, but I hate how he got attention for it.
No one said anything about anti-semetism until he mentioned it! ugh. and even in our paper there was an article that read, "controversy over 'Passion' causes film to be released in dozens more theatres."
i'm sure it's a fantastic film, but i don't like how he got it publicized.
~Jewelz~ - February 29, 2004 12:15 AM (GMT)
hmmm, i didn't know that he started that whole thing Chapstick.
however, i do remember him talking about it on this one show that i only watched part of (heh). basically the interviewing lady said something about that whole thing, the whole "jews killing Jesus" thing (to put it horribly bluntly, i apologize)
and he said that we all killed Jesus. which is true. we did it, us and everyone else. all of our sins did that to him. it killed me bc throughout the movie i couldn't get it out of my head that all of the STUPID things that i do to sin, every little (or big) thing; did that to him.
i think this smilie  would be appropriate, don't you?
Celandine - February 29, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
I want to see it...
I have read comments and most everyone says that it is one of those movies that you wouldn't see again because it is so powerful.
Yep, God rocks my socks! (*laughs*, that one's a Joy quote)
I read one girl's webjournal and she said that it is us mocking him, spitting on him, and whipping him. If we had been alive, we would have been in that crowd too. I mean, even Peter (Jesus' closest friend and disciple) denied him 3 times when he said that he would never do such a thing before.
~Jewelz~ - February 29, 2004 05:41 AM (GMT)
about Peter. did anyone HEAR the cock crow? bc i caught the whole "deny 3 times" thing, and Jesus mentioned the cock crowing, etc in the flash back, but i don't remember ever actually hearing it crow. and neither does bri. are we just deaf or something? *ponders*
i will now proceed to post what i originally intended to post. i'm not so scared of what's thought of me anymore. all this "martyr" and "WE killed him" and "all the stupid crap i do, killed him..." stuff is getting to me. and i think that's a good thing *ponders*....
(Friday, right after seeing TPOTC)
 *stunned*
that's the best way i can put it.
perhaps it was a bad idea for me to post about something so controversial as Mel Gibson's movie on this site. it is, after all, meant to be a light hearted fan site. for fun.
but im posting about it anyway.
only because it knocked me off my feet. not that i wasn't expecting it, with all the hype. but as bri, josh and i sat there watching the credits roll, i couldn't have moved if i wanted to.
now i've been known to cry at movies, more so in the past few years than ever.
but the crying i did throughout this movie...*pauses* it's the kind of crying i do in my worst moments. the kind of crying where you're gasping and shaking and sobing and tears are pouring down your cheeks and it's hardly even registering because you're so caught up in the emotion.
that's the kind of crying i was doing. and bri next to me. and the guy on the other side of me (i didn't know him).
it's left me completely wiped. it's a wonder i can move at all.
i know i sound like a freak, but who am i to care about that? bri and brandon are writing a joint article on it for our school paper (yes, school paper) and if it doesn't make front page, it's going on second with a pic on first letting you know. and if the admistrators don't like it, we're making flyers.
don't get me wrong, i have total respect for religions other than mine. i won't go to a chruch that makes fun of other religions. there has to be some form of truth in any religion, otherwise no one would follow it, right?
the fact of the matter is that Jesus WAS a real person, and his crucifixion DID happen; the things in that movie happened (more or less); whether you believe He was Christ or not.
now with my luck i'll probably get people all made at me and be asked not to come back to EWAC *sighs* or maybe not. I just had to post about this movie. it's having and incredible impact, not just on me, but on society as well. Please don't get mad at me. I'm just doing what I need to do *shrugs*
if you're at all willing to see it, do. it's gruesome and straight forward. slams you in the face. but it's...great.
^_^ ps. God rocks. Jesus too (lol ^_^ )
~Jewelz~ - February 29, 2004 05:52 AM (GMT)
(just posting now so that i'll get email notice when people reply bc i forgot to activate it b4 heh, whoops)
ps. who rocks? GOD ROCKS!! :shine:
...and i'm a freak... a JESUS FREAK!!! ^_^ (dctalk rocks too lol)
(ae: "or...just a freak"
me: "be quiet, ur know ur a JF too so there"
ae: "...fine..."
me: "HA so there :shine: )
lol *shrugs*
*hums JF song to self* lala....
~Jewelz~ - February 29, 2004 07:50 PM (GMT)
last night i spent my "hang out after eXalt" time reading an article in the middle of Safeway (sorry to licia and skye for ignoring ya'll! i don't blame ya for leaving me when i sat down in the isle to read it lol!)
anyway, the article was (long) interesting. i didn't know that the guy that played Jesus (Jim... something that starts with a C) had blue eyes. bc in the movie Jesus has these honey brown eyes that are like :eeeek: and grab you. digital apparentlly, but i'm glad they did it. i know eyes are a big deal to me. and if i ever imagined Jesus' eyes, they'd definatly grab me the way the digital ones did in that movie. cool.
the lady that played Mary is Jewish, and she was pregnant. awww baby!! ^_^
and apparently it was Mel Gibson's FATHER that started the anti-semitism thing, not Mel (he was "hurt" bc of it actually, according to the article). hmm...
i don't think i'll see it again with you guys licia, i just don't think i'm supposed to, y'know *shrugs*
later :bye:
Kierra - February 29, 2004 08:33 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen it yet, but I am having doubts. It is supposed to be very grusome and sad and very powerful, and I'm not religious, not that that is a factor, but I dunno if I could handle it all. Some interesting info and spoliers that Ermina posted at ewfn (sorry if you wanted to post it yourself, please feel free to bash me with a spoon).
SPOILERS (in yellow, highlight for easier reading).
*Jesus is brutally beaten and one of his eyes swollen shut during the start when he is taken prisoner and during the trials.
*The scouraging is really brutal. They start with the wooden rods being wielded by several Romans taking turns. You do see several hits of the rods and the resulting bruises and blood. You don't see all them but you certainly hear them and watch Mary's reaction.
*The scouraging continues with a device that was whips with glass at the ends of them. This flays the skin open. You see the first hit rip the skin. You don't see the rest for a while and then they roll him over and start up again on the front and you see more of them. Blood is everywhere. Whoever did the makeup deserves an Oscar.
*Mary and Mary Magdalene wipe up Jesus' blood from the courtyard. It's in puddles.
*They take a crown of thorns and place in on Jesus' head and hit it into his head causing more bleeding.
*The entire walk up to the moutain top dragging the cross is long and painful with beatings. It's emotionally wrenching.
*They nail his hand to the cross and they show it going through the hand and the blood spurting. You also hear the sound of it.
*They dislocate his other shoulder pulling his hand out far enough to nail it, which they show.
*They nail his feet down which at this point I could not look anymore.
*They turn the cross over and then hit the nail ends down on the back. Blood is dripping everywhere.
*A crow takes out the eyes of one of the convicts being crucified with Jesus.
*A Roman soldier stabs Jesus in the chest to make sure he is dead and blood spews out over to everyone below.
INFO
- Jim Caviezel (who played Jesus) was struck by lighting while filming.
- He suffered migraines because of the crown of thorns was quite hard on his head.
- They started applying his makeup at 2am and are done 8 hours later.
- It takes him 2 hours of a warm bath to get all the makeup off.
- He suffered hypothermia while he was up on the cross because it was filmed in Italy and he was only wearing a loin cloth during all the takes.
- When he auditioned for the movie, Caviezel was told it was a surfing movie. Gibson was sizing him up to make sure he was the right person to play Jesus before letting him know that he can have the role if he wants it.
- Gibson warned Caviezel that this movie could very well end his acting career if he decides to take the role of Jesus. Caviezel replied with if this is what it takes, then he can live with it.
- The actress, who played Mary, found out she was pregnant during the making of the movie.
- Caviezel is from my home state of Washington.
- Caviezel has a 14-inch scar on his back that resulted from when the actor who was playing the Roman soldier missed the protective board and whipped him instead.
- He got spat at (for real) by a crowd of people who were only doing their jobs as actors.

Last but not the least, just an interesting useless tidbit...
His initials are J.C. and he was 33 when he filmed the movie. For those of you who are not familiar with the story, Jesus Christ was 33 years old when he was crucified.
so yeah, i really wanna see it...but i dunno lol...
~Jewelz~ - February 29, 2004 11:00 PM (GMT)
 ... i can back up that all the spoilers Keirra posted did happen in the movie. I mean, I saw it after all
the intro to the article i read mentioned the lightening strike, apparently Gibson joked (for lack of a better word) about it being evidence of well, you know Who hanging around the set ;-)
Mel was the one spraying the blood apparently. i saw the first hit with the glass thingy, it wasn't pretty, that's for sure.
I admire both Gibson and Caviezel very much for their willingness to make this film. Lord knows the responsibility it has been...
Seattle rocks btw lol, or at least i think so, i love rain (i know i know, this coming from a Cali girl ^_^ lol)
yesterday Bri (theevilhobbit) made a good point involving the men that were beating Jesus, etc. i don't know about other people, but i flinched at every hit and wanted nothing more than to stand up and scream "STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (btw, did Simon actually do what he did in the movie, scream at them to stop, according to the Gospels?? i can't remember...) the way they were laughing, JESUS' blood was spewing ALL OVER THEM and they were LAUGHING :anger: ...
but that was "cool" to them.
just think of all the times we pull stupid cruel crap bc it's "cool". just think that every time we do that to anyone else (even if they don't know it) we're doing it to Jesus. just think about that...
i just though she made a good point, that's all (sorry if i sound too preachy  )
*sighs* :bye: later
~Jewelz~ - March 3, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
it all started when bri and brandon agree to review the movie together
and then they wanted it on the front page
then yesina (sp?) flipped out lol
then mr. t talked to administrators
then bri made posters for our Bible Study party in three weeks and put them up
then Mr T told us to take them all down bc admin people are stupid
then bri talked to mr fillpot (our prinicpal, who is a Christian) and he said:
1. we could put the posters back up if we wanted to, even if they said "Come Celebrate Christ!"
2. we could put the article on page 1, if it's unbias and he reads it first
so we turned in three articles; one on the movie, one on Mel Gibson, and one on odd things that happened during filming. also, we're gonna have "bubbles" of people's comments and pics. on page one, God (and Mr Fillpot) willing. it'll probably go onto other pages (which is good bc we still have blank space :eep: ) and it'll be GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!! :grins:
it's been chaotic, but worth every second, esspecially if we get it FIRST PAGE!!! so pray for that people, if you happen to pray :) this movie has been such great inspriation for our newspaper crew, we're even all getting along with brandon (aka "shorty" or "punk") lol
lata :bye:

I haven't gotten around to this movie yet (because it's not released in Singapore yet) and I'm sure it would be getting a noticeable rating when it's finally released (within the next two months I reckon). Maybe a NC-16 (above 16 years old), M-18 (Mature-18, above 18 years old), or even a R(A) (above 21 years old) for its religious content.
Malaysia (our neighbouring country) has banned this movie, but my friend managed to get a pirated copy from there (lol, weird innit?). I'm going to be watching that copy soon, so I'll be back!
p/s: I'm not a Christian though I know a little about Jesus and stuff because I was from a catholic school)
Kierra - April 25, 2004 09:42 AM (GMT)
OMG. I saw it Friday night and OMGGGG. Like jewelz said, I cried all the way through it, I cried so hard and after I felt so drained. Well, I was crying for about an hour...so you know. I was shaking really bad too, it was awful, but made me think, a lot. It's def worth seeing, but the horror behind it....just wow. Expect to cry...if you don't cry, you are one hard person.
WhiteAndie - May 1, 2004 04:54 PM (GMT)
I must say that it moved me.
I mean, i'm glad they did it so real, because it wasn't like watching a classic Passion of the Christ movie that are out every easter in tv...
It was real, and it made me think that maybe we just didn't see the big deal that Christ had to be in, and it's not because i'm a catholic, but more like a person, so many people suffered by that kind of bad things, but we never saw it until now...
And i mean, i knew the end :P, but it was just a heartbreaking all the things they did it to Christ, it was heartbroken, but i guess i was mor e hurt because of the Virgin Mary, i mean, like a woman, and to watch your son suffering that way... that's when, i admit, i cried a little bit.
Mel Gibson is amazing! i mean, he did it, and he stood for that. ANd all the antisemitism stuff... i can;t see it quite well, i had to do an essay about this movie and the antisemitism thoughts, and after i saw it, i realized that there's no more things that the one which are written in the Bible (which i don't read a lot, but i know a little bit :P) and i guess that if the jews (not all) felt a little bit attacked, i mean, it wasn't there, they just put the pants on (a mexican quote lol)
luvly

Airefeaiel - April 23, 2005 02:15 PM (GMT)
I'm a very emotional person, which I have finally come to realise. I own the Passion DVD and I thought, as just a little thing to get me in the mood for Greek Easter which begins on May 1 I decided to watch it again. I must say, watching it at home isn't the same as wartching it in the cinema.
I remember when I first heard about it, I heard about the whole 'woman faints watching passion' publicity that they had talked about and literally I thought it was just because of the goryness that everyone had been talking about, but after I saw it I knew it was merely just the suffering that Jesus went through for us...for our sins that effected so many people watching it.
The movie moved me...I stood watching it in a deadly silence which is unusal for me because I'm usually the annoying person who talks through every movie, but I was just...in awe...and I felt so ashamed that all that suffering had been done for me...for all of us... by one man...a mortal man...and that I still sin every single day.
I guess, when I was younger, having a psycho lady teach scripture at my school made me doubt how much Jesus had suffered. But now that I'm older I think I understand it better.
This movie was intense. I'm quite glad Mel Gibson made it, despite all the contraversy it caused. But then again...when isn't there contraversy when it comes to religion?
