Damn the Muse

Muse, little widow
black veil of emptiness on your childish face.
I hate you,
because you make me different
and
I love you
because you make me myself.
Someday, I'll reach you
in the hour that comes
between dusk and dawn
in the moment that falls
among the lines I write
I'll build up a theatre, and call it reality
I'll make darkness shine for us
I'll make wind dry for us
I'll make snow bleed for us.
Someday,
I'll find the strength to live without you,
I'll find the strength to be ordinary,
I'll find the strength to kiss you
and hit you
and curse you
and make you leave.
And maybe, I'll find the strength to be
just
human.
