Ok, so Orli's not exactly in this one but I couldn't help it! Hail the godly glory that is Eric Bana! I've been in love with him for years. (He plays Hector)... Not a word Aurora!

Peiyu, I think you are the first Orlando fan that I've heard say they aren't excited about Troy. As much as I respect your opinion...... why? Even if the movie didn't have Orlando in it, it's one of the greatest stories ever "written" (although I personally like the Odyssey better). The fact that it has Brad Pitt and Sean Bean, too are just merely perks.
Ryvyan - April 4, 2004 07:09 AM (GMT)
I know of others who are not really looking forward to the movie too actually, though none who does not like Leggy! Hehe, the story doesn't really appeal to me in the beginning I guess; not really into Greek mythology :P Plus after seeing some trailers and stuff, it's more eyecandy than anything. I'm not really into 'epic movies' so to speak, less warmth unlike small productions.
I don't really like the costumes and CGI effects as seen in trailers and pictures, and I usually watch movies for the overall 'feel'. LOTR is kind of different because it's not hyped up to be a 'Hollywood movie' but made mainly for fans. Plus the chemistry between the cast and the effort put into the effects (I went to the LOTR exhibition!) was huge. I love work of that scale :D
There doesn't seem to be much to boost of for Troy except for the story which many loves, and the cast. If it wasn't for Orlando, I wouldn't even have contemplated watching it!
I'm actually extremely excited about 'Calcium Kid' which would probably never open here!

oh you're right there, they will have forgotten loads of important 'facts' (the odyssey is not exactly historical correct) and changed others to have a more smoothgoining story. But I'll watch the thing for the male-legs and other lush body parts that happen to pass by. About greek mythology: all die in the end, because of faith, and saying nasty things to gods (who happen to be ill-tempered).
-sounds a bit like Ned Kelly (minus the gods)-

this tolkienfan protests, nobody asked my opinion! :anger:
But without lotr chocolate chunkie wouldn't have been so famous, and I would have had to find another time passing
TheMonkeyGirl - April 4, 2004 05:21 PM (GMT)
I wasn't saying that everyone should be excited for Troy or any other film o come out, just that I was surprised to finally hear someone say it.
I've just always been a huge geek when it comes to anything Mythology related. My senior year in high school we spent the first nine weeks studying first all of the Gods and then all of the great epics like The Iliad and The Odyssey and even Gilgamesh and Beowulf. So call me a nerd! [I spent as much time reading through the LOTR books in college (before the movie had even started filming) as my textbooks.]
Nothing in Greek mythology is historically accurate- I mean the sun rises each day because it is carried across the sky by a huge chariot!!! But it's a great way to actually understand some early history and religious beliefs. Yes, I know get me some horn-rimmed glasses and a pocket protector because I'm such a nerd!
Bloomiecurse - April 4, 2004 06:01 PM (GMT)
You are no nerd, girl! I adore mythology as well!
Mythology is the cradle of our culture, be it Greek, be it Latin, be it German or Scandinavian...
in Myth lies all essence of history, in myth lie the origin of many many words we use every day without even knowing why we do use them to express a certain meaning.
I think I will be likely going to see Troy (not only because Orlando is in it)... I kept on watching an old tape that my mum has of an edition of the Odissey shot in the early 70s... I so much like to see those stories transposed into images... this movie might turn out to be a deluion, but I want to go and see it...
Maybe the lack of serious transposure of the plot in this movie will be eased by the eyecandies...
:tsk:
Yummeh!
Ryvyan - April 4, 2004 06:01 PM (GMT)
Heh I know, I'm sorry if I sound defensive there  But I really love to watch a movie because of the passion the cast and crew put into it.
Somehow, Orlando is not exactly passionate about this role...
Take 'PASSION OF THE CHRIST' for example. I am not Christian and yet I want to watch the movie quite badly because of the passion and belief the cast and crew have in the story and everything in the movie. The amount of money it makes seems rather insignificant compared to everything else.
'TROY' seems to be aiming at our pockets.
And yes, the belief the Ancient Greeks hold. Actually the people of olden days are really amazing with their belief and love and passion; all races and from all places! It would be quite another thing to look back at this millennium of things we believe in a few thousand years later!

Ooohhh.... Peiyu, you could set me off on such a tangent there- and not directed at you in any way. But it almost makes you wonder if some actors accept a role more so because they know it will be a great enhancement for their careers rather than choosing it because they are passionate about the film.
Don't anyone shoot me for saying that. :surrender: I'm not an expert on Orlando or any other person, but it's just a thought.

Hehe either that or maybe LOTR bonded its cast and crew too much, and this lack of enthusiasm shows for Orlando's other movies.

 I knew I liked him! lol...
Yeah, I am semi-excited to see Troy, I am not going into it expecting a whole lot out of Orlando because his past movies (LOTR & POTC) didn't really give him great chances to show off his acting skills (in LOTR he shot arrows and spouted elvish wisdom, in POTC Johnny Depp stole the show). And in Troy he's not the main character, Brad Pitt is *feels guilty for finding amusement that he dies in the movie from an arrow to the heel as Achilles :lalala: *
The Iliad is an awesome story though, and I love Greek mythology to death (Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies), so it should be pretty good.
Was I the only one to think "whoa... " when I saw the preview for the movie and it starts out focusing on one of the ships but then pans out to show hundreds of them? ^_^
