Title: Hobbits or Elves?
Description: You choose.

MysteriouStranger - February 16, 2004 01:13 PM (GMT)
Not to sound offensive or anything, but when it came to the actual question who would you prefer over the other. We can't say we have favorites, or maybe some of us do. But no matter what reasons, who would you choose? Hobbits or Elves?

Hope you don't take this too seriously,
MysteriouStranger

MysteriouStranger - February 16, 2004 01:16 PM (GMT)
 Just to let you know, I didn't mean to pick 'Elf'. My finger just clicked on impulse to the word for some reason. Oops. Hehe. Shoot!

Laila - February 16, 2004 02:46 PM (GMT)
I chose hobbits, but my heart actually beats for the race of men...
Well in this choice I'd always choose hobbits since I am personally not really fond of elves...

Reannon - February 16, 2004 07:08 PM (GMT)
I chose Hobbits just because they are more accessible really. But I do like the elves as well...one elf in particular. ^_^

Raine - February 16, 2004 07:30 PM (GMT)
 Why isn't men on this list?

MysteriouStranger - February 16, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
Men? Oh, haha ... MEN. Wait, you are talking about Aragorn, Boromir, and them other 'men' right?

Well, to inform you. This was an argument between me and my friend. She preferred elves as I preferred hobbits. So I just wanted to know who you people would pick.

Matilda - February 17, 2004 08:55 PM (GMT)
Elves! I love the elves... they seem so old and wise and young and beatuiful!!

err...did that sound weird ?

*I want pointy ears!!*

 o... ok... **sighs and starts thinking about Aragorn** Mmm.... :yum: yum... Anywho if i had to choose between them i would pick... Hobbits. :neene: Their all like party on! And "the simple life". The Elves are all crazy with their whole "prefection thing." and... yeah hobbits all the way.

.JuLEs. - February 18, 2004 05:47 PM (GMT)
Hobbits all the way!

They're so warm hearted and adorable. Elves are too perfect.

brilfeniel - February 18, 2004 07:23 PM (GMT)
Elves! *looks at Legolas lovingly*

To put it simply in the words of whoever-that-came-up-with-this: "Elves rule! Humans drool." hehe and pointy ears are cool :P

Though I certainly wouldn't mind a Hobbit in Pippin form (complete with singing abilities & all)

Ryvyan - February 19, 2004 04:08 PM (GMT)
It's nice to see them being compared because:

1. Elves are quite a sad and quiet bunch, and the most obvious difference would be their height, looks, hair (all of them seems to have straight hair) and their immortality.

2. Hobbits are short, cuddly, adorable, happy, cheerful, happy-go-lucky bunch, and I love them! No competition here!

To anyone who is interested, Celeborn, Elrond and Galadriel are my favoutite elves. Heh! Legolas was only great in that oliphaunt sequence... :P

bludst@ndrozez - March 1, 2004 08:32 PM (GMT)
ELVES!!

they're so... graceful and peaceful and elegant and... they're amazing. i wish life could really be like the way they live... in the trees and flowers and all peaceful and quiet and just amazingly beautiful. wow.

altho it's hard because i LOVE hobbits. they're SOOOOO cute. and lifelike and all jolly and stuff. you know, like all they want is to be at peace and happy. They're like the perfect version of man. not to mention... all the hobbits in LOTR are drop dead gorgeous... *cough*

but yea... i loves elves. loves them

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 1, 2004 09:51 PM (GMT)
Yep i choose hobbits cos i feel more attached to them. I can relate to them and they are sooooo very cute.

Yup! Same here, lol! Chose elves because I adore Arwen and Luthien

MysteriouStranger - March 3, 2004 06:15 AM (GMT)
Well, by the poll, it seems that Hobbits won. HOORAY FOR THE HOBBITS!! But by the posts, elves seemed to be more likely to be talked about. So I guess in a way, this is a tie but I'd go with the poll. Hobbits for life! Elijah Wood babay! .. ahem ... but elves are still good people. :D

Only in the movies, that's because else the less atentive watcher (in an attempt to say nothing denegrating about somebody's intellect) wouldn't see the difference between elves and humans. -making the elves a bit greener would have helped-

personally think that legolas ain't orlando's best role ever (disliked the character because of being like soooooooooooooooo gay (note to people who are gay: I'm not trying to offend you, he just acts like one) real legolas is a) smarter (or at least acts like that) B) elegant (doesn't mean him nancying around the place))

(prefer orlando in black hawk down, wanted to kick his *** after 30 seconds for being an incredible idiot (bit like malfoy (?) in harry potter) which showes his acting skills)

BTW: hobbits rule! always have and always will

They certainly do. I think i may have started war here

Lessy - March 7, 2004 07:26 AM (GMT)
I like eleve better because i think they understand the way of life more.
I think that they are really cool!
^_^

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 8, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
I have to disagree with them understanding the world more they dont understand death and stuff but still have to agree that they are very kewl dudes

Celandine - March 11, 2004 08:55 PM (GMT)
Let's see...I would say hobbits overall because they are so adorable :shine:
I would have to divide it though:
Movies: Hobbits! They are hilarious and happy-go-lucky, and very cute (especially Pippin... aww)...yeah, in the movies, the elves (at least the guys, like Legolas, Haldir, and Celeborn) are too feminine and seem wimpy...Galadriel is cool, and so is Arwen, but in the movies, the hobbits still win hands down.
Books: It would be a harder decision, but I would tend to pick elves because they kick serious butt and they aren't as pansy-ish, plus there's Glorfindel, who is an awesome character (I don't know WHY he was cut from the movie :anger: ), and it seems as if the hobbits need to be saved all the time (like when they have to be carried up Caradrhas (sp?) by the other members of the Fellowship) and they aren't as exciting...even though Merry and Pippin rock in the end with the whole "Scouring of the Shire" chapter in RotK.

Sorry, a bit long-winded answer there, but you get my point :yay:

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 11, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)

yeah, hobbits would still win (most of all b/c they're Elijah, Sean, Billy, and Dom :shine:). I don't know why they have hairy feet. That's kind of gross...maybe Tolkien wanted to set them apart from men and elves and dwarves  That's a very good question.

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 18, 2004 05:04 PM (GMT)
Tolkien never actually said why. It just is he said we shouldn't try and say that lotr has a meaning to the outside world cos it hasn't. Cant remeber what the posh word for that is. It is that fact that makes lotr universal and apealing to everyone even in movie form. Just have to take it azs hairy feet is part of the fantastical element. Strange why its hairy feet but we r never going to know. I supose it could be to make hobbits different from men and elves and everyone else but still hobbits of cool. Have any of u gals seen the cartoon version of lotr cos the hobbits are very cute in that. Hobbits just rock sorry elf lovers tey do.

Celandine - March 18, 2004 10:47 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I saw the cartoon version of The Hobbit, and it made me laugh because they did such a good job of making the dwarves funny and always getting into situations that Bilbo has to save them from. I love how the hobbits are these short little guys with curly hair and huge appetites. The cartoon version of Gollum was scary though, and really ugly...so were the orcs. I also laughed when they had the elves as these weird looking blue people.

The whole "hairy feet" thing will probably always be a mystery, just like why Tolkien had Sauron be an eye for most of the books.

Yes, hobbits rock! :yayay:

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 20, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
lol yeah love the ring rwraith in the cartoon version and the doors at bree and tree beard mwahha

yes mysteries of lotr

Am a tolkien freak so I'll bother you with the answers (and most likely spoil the whole thing).

The hobbits have hairy feet so they stay warm. They always run around barefeeted (? without shoes anyway) and they have very thick soles and hair on top. They used to comb it on special, posh events. They were rather hairy everywhere anyway, not only their feet but their arms, legs head where covered with thick curly hair, usually dark of colour.
They didn't look very human anyway.

And Sauron is not just an eye in the book, it's more or less a symbol for when he's watching around. (and as he's searching the ring that's quiet often) Sauron could take any shape he wanted to, but lost the power to take a beautiful, lovable shape long ago as punishement for flooding an island if I remember wel.

You still alive? whow me impressed

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 25, 2004 09:59 PM (GMT)
no it was cos he corrupted the men numenor, who helped in the fight against morgoth and there reward was to placed on this island so they could see heaven where the elves go. But he came over and corrupted them so they wanted everylasting life, and so the valar destoryed the island and he was on it, and he survived but couldn't take a plesant shape or something like that it is in the silmarillion neway.

Yes im also a tolkien freak. Just havent read the hobbit for ages and yes he does clearly state that hobbits have curley hair on his feet feels embarassed now. And i feel even more embarrased to admit this but the whole eye watching thing i totaly didnt get/ realise till u pointed it out to me ohhhh the things that pass me by

Celandine - March 25, 2004 10:58 PM (GMT)
 Yeah, I forgot that hobbits were just hairy in general...they wear pants and long sleeved shirts so you only notice it on their feet. I thought it was really cool that no one can hear hobbits when they sneak around. That's probably why the dwarves in The Hobbit singled Bilbo out to steal back their treasure.

The idea of Sauron "watching" over as the eye makes sense...I was just pointing out that he is referred to as "the eye" for most of the story. That could also symbolize his weakness, since he isn't even considered a whole person - he has very little individual power without the Ring.

I have yet to read the Silmarillion...I want to read it soon so I understand the history and everything.

*raises hand* yup, Tolkien freak, that's me too. It's good to know I'm not alone. ;-)

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 27, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)
well your are not on your own im with u. Tolkien freaks together.

Gandalf chose bilbo for the trip but that could be why. The only reason bilbo came was to steal the tresure that why gandalf put that simbol on his door ius that right? God i need to reread the hobbit i have a memory like a seive. There this story in unfinished tales about why gandalf sent the dwarfs to bagend in the 1st place. Really gd. Cant remmber exactly why though need to reread that again as well.

The silmarillion is gr8 it really help my understanding of lotr u get more indepth cos it explains the stroy of the poems and when they stop half way through the silmarillion tells the full tale. Bit of advise for when u read it the 1st chapter is a myth about how middle earth was created, and about the gods or valar as they r called, and the maiar basically servant god, they serve the valar it is gd but it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo difficult to get into his writting in the chapter. Ive read it but it is really hard going reading. So skip it then go back to it. Cos the 1st part of the silmarillion puts people off but just keep going. I would also recogmend unfinished tales, which is interesting cos it gives alternative versions and the only story of numenor which is gd. I really wanna read the histories of middle earth trouble is they are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive ohh well when im rich and famous.

Looks at everyone asleep ohh well

hihi TFT sounds cool

I'm to scared at the moment to reread anything (what if I see those "insert very dirty word here"* actors in the place of my charactres  ????)
One day I will

*note: I'm not responsable for your dirty minds

About the sign on Bilbo's door: gandalf made it and it said: burglar looking for a job, good pay, small risks (or something in that direction) why Gandalf picked Bilbo in the first place, no one knows, but as some of you know, good choice.

the1ringrulesdaworld - March 30, 2004 07:37 PM (GMT)
yeah well unfinshed tales trys to answer why in the hols next week i'll get the chappie and type it out for u or at least summarise it for u

Luvn Elwood - December 30, 2004 06:18 AM (GMT)
I chose Elves because of Orli....but I'll go back in a bit and choose Hobbits for Elijah (tee hee, JK)

I love them both and can't really choose between them...but I like elvish clothing better...

Hobbit_at_heart - December 31, 2004 06:28 PM (GMT)
I think that question is really hard! lol you have Orlando as a very sexy swashbuckling elf and then you have Elijah, Billy DOm, and Sean!

lol good question... *thinks hard* I am going to have to say elves tho... but only by .00001%!!! lol

SpanishEvenstar - January 7, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
I chose Elves because I am one. :D I'm such an Elf it's not even funny. :P It's kinda scary, really.

Not that I "hate" hobbits--they're impossible to hate. But seeing as I am an Elf...my allegiance lies with them. And men. Men are cool too. ;)

blossoming_daisy - September 30, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
I'd say eleves because in the book it says they can make you see the iamges of what they are talking or singing about.Plus, they are immortal and they "live forever, got that-FOREVER," so I wouldn't have to worry about losing them(there will be no battles so they will not be killed either).Besides, they are very wise and I would learn a lot from them :bloom:
