Title: Favourite Movie of All Time?
Description: Other than LotR of course....

Reannon - February 9, 2004 05:02 AM (GMT)
So...what is your favourite movie of all time?
:film:

I have quite a few favourite movies, but one movie has been there my entire life (well, the part that I can remember anyway). That would be "Anne of Green Gables" (and the sequels). I saw myself as Anne as a child - completely identified with her. I really would love to go to PEI - but the closest I've been is Nova Scotia.. ^_^ Anyway...those movies (and the books) helped to define me as a person.

Other favourites:

"Fiddler on the Roof" - what can I say? Sunrise, Sunset
"Chicago" - b/c I saw it on Broadway when I was in NYC and was absolutely a-twitter when the movie came out
"Catch Me If You Can" - I feel so bad for Frank!
"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" - sentimental old classic that my mom was always watching and so I've grown up with and know all the words to all the songs

...I could go on...but that list is the list that I could think of right now of the movies that I could watch over an over again and never be bored ^_^

WhiteAndie - February 9, 2004 07:57 PM (GMT)

hmm..

White Oleandor: The first time i saw the movie it just struck me, i love it, i watch it all the time. This is seriously my favorite movie of all time.

LOTR Trilogy: Anyone who doesn't put this here is well.. crazy.

Finding Nemo: hehe Dory. This movie can always make me smile, i know every single line in this movie.

Uptown Girls: This movie always gets me. I had babysitters all my life until i was 11, so i know exactly what it feels like.

10 things i hate about you: come on classic!

She's All That: I was obsessed with this movie.

Enough: I know JLO movie ugh..but still this is such a good movie.

Peral Harbor: BOY did i have obsession with this movie. Except for me it was ALL about Ben.

How to lose a guy in 10 days: I know it sucked. But i love Kate Hudson, and i think its the wackiest love story that just gets me.

Thats all i can think of right now..

I'll be back with more you bet i will!

Always,
Elle

Of course, it goes without saying that LOTR is one of my favourites. I was just asking people what were some of their favourites other than LOTR (as I'm pretty sure I can safely assume that most people on this site like that movie).... ;-) ^_^ :bloom:

KillSarah - February 12, 2004 12:23 AM (GMT)
Hmmm....tis a hard one.

LOTR Trilogy - Of course. :shine: Cried like a baby at the end of ROTK.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - Again, of course. ^_^

From Hell - One of the best horror films I've ever seen.

Evelyn - Don't know anyone else who's seen it. Pierce Brosnan is in it. Kinda has a religious tone, but I loved it anyway. Based on a true story, I think.

Moulin Rouge - The only musical I've ever truly enjoyed watching. I  this movie. I cried during this one, too. That's pretty rare.

Jackass: The Movie - Go ahead, beat me with a stick. I love it...this movie absolutely rocks so much.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - :lmao: Cried, but that was 'cause I was laughing so much. ;)

The Last Samurai - The scene with the thunderstorm was my favorite. *shrug* Cried in this as well.

Hmmm...there are definitely more. Lol. I love movies. :P

How did you watch that?! I nearly peed my pants half an hour in, I couldn't watch the rest.

Miney mine mine:

LOTR: Thats a given.

Dogma: Hilarious beyond hilarious.

POTC: Spells OBSESSION.

Empire Records: I'm with you, Tru Faith.

Love Actually: Sweetest movie in the history of movies. Feel good love story, the best kind, and it wasn't even corny!!

Finding Nemo: Dory makes this movie. I never thought I'd love an animated fish this much.

The list goes on, but I won't bore you.

Elle<3 - February 12, 2004 06:03 PM (GMT)
I forgot so many tha tyou have reminded me of!

Moulin Rouge: The one love story that is sooo tragic the kind of love story i LOVE..well it would have been better if it didn't end the way it did but sigh. I love the songs how they mixed them around from the originals.

Love Actually: Jules and i saw that together and didn't know at first but i ended up loving that in the end!!!

Chapstick - February 12, 2004 08:26 PM (GMT)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - the first time I saw it was about 4 years ago and I didn't understand it at all. later, once i found out you're not supposed to understand it, i was hooked! your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of ELDERBERRIES!!!!!

Forrest Gump - Tom Hanks was absolutely amazing! And Gary Sinise, too! And Robin Wright! It was an excellent cast, and one of the greatest feel-good movies. I liked how there was no bad guy, it was just the adventures of this guy. And the way they did it, he really could've been doing all those things. so i went to the nation's capitol. again. and i met the president of the united states. again.

Billy Elliot - The best frickin Irish movie EVER! Well, I think it's just a British movie, but I think the characters live in the part of England that's closer to Ireland, so they've got Irish accents. And the main character, Jamie somethingorother... for a 13-year-old? :woot: :yay:

Ryvyan - February 13, 2004 03:09 PM (GMT)
Besides LotR?
*doesn't have much of a life minus that*
...
:lmao:

Heh, ok... Bridget Jones' Diary, Love Actually, Down With Love, etc (can't remember). All chick flicks!

Firestar - February 14, 2004 06:10 AM (GMT)
Ooh, this is cool, but hard...

Ok...

Amelie - Ok, it's a French film (I'm an Aussie) but it's AWESOME. I'm in love with it.

Chocolat - Set in France - Hmm, noticing a pattern - with one of my favourite actresses, Juliette Binoche. Also has dear Johnny Depp.

Love Actually - I was crying in the first minute. Everyone in it is on my favourite actor/actress list. Beautiful.

The Recruit - Simply cool. It has Colin Farrell which is also a plus.

X-Men - I love the whole super power thing and I'm in love with Hugh Jackman.

While You Were Sleeping - One of the best Rom Coms ever. Love Sandra Bullock, love Bill Pullman.

Practical Magic - Magic! Oooh. Lol. Again, love Sandra, love Nicole Kidman.

Yep. Those are only a small few of my rather extensive list!

Bridget Jones's Diary is awesome! ^_^

Finanwen - April 3, 2004 10:49 AM (GMT)
Besides LOTR that would be:

 'Romeo and Juliet' of Franco Zefirelli starring Olivia Hussy (sp?) as Juliet - one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen!

 POTC - Will Turner... *thud*

 'Big' - Tom Hanks should have got an OSCAR for this role as well :)

CeruleanFlame - April 4, 2004 04:19 PM (GMT)
Okay, ive got a few...

Hanging Up - this movie is beyond sweet. I dont know many people who actually like this movie, let alone seen it. My sister thinks its boring. I, however, love it. I tried to find it on dvd, but ive got the worst of luck with it. Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow, and Diane Keaton are supposed to be three very different sisters. Walter Mathaw (sp?) is their father. It a very good father-daughter movie, itll have a really big impact on you, maybe youll evne be a little nicer ot your dad.

The Frighteners - again, a movie that most people i ask havent even heard of. It a cross between ghost and the sixth sense though it deals with the grim reaper and its more of a comedy than a thriller/suspense thing. I mean, i guess it IS suspenseful, its just not scary. Peter Jackson wrote, directed and produced it, so youre bound to know its a good movie. (anyone who hasnt seen it, by the way, GO RENT IT!)

The Ring - I dont know what it is about this movie that i like so much. I think Naomi Watts played her role brilliantly. I guess this was just one of those movies that left me with a feeling because it was so disturbing. I consider this a drama than a scary movie, because it didnt scare me at all, except for maybe that part where samara came out of the television *shudders*

Alice in Wonderland - oh, ive heard all the rumours, Lewis Carroll was on lsd, blah blah blah. Its not even true! And besides, i still LOVED this whole storyline, its so different than any other disney movie, and i used to watch it every single day was i was in germany. Thats how obsessed i was!

Final Destination - just love this movie. I liked it so much better than the second one, mainly because the characters were just a lot more interesting. Who wouldnt want to watch a movie about a group of teenagers whove cheated death and attempt to survive when death trails after trying to kill them?

X2 - Action packed and tons better than the first. It was really worth two hours of my time. Most movies just get really tiring when they end up being that long.

Deep Blue Sea - I've never seen Jaws, though i know this movie it exactly like that. I thought LL Cool J was hilarious. I absolutely loved his character, and some of the scenes in this movie as well. You know you love it when you watch a shark trying to eat humans.

Con Air - The whole idea of a sane man being in a plane with a bunch of sadistic pyschopaths is very appealing to me, and at the very same time as this movie is thrilling, its so sweet too! Some people think this movie it crap, but come on, what about all those stupid mediocre movies most people watch? And THEYRE not crap?

Last Action Hero - the acting wasnt so good, but the plot was amazing. For those of you who have yet to see it, its about a guy who gets sucked into a an action movie after having been given a magic movie ticket by one of his friends, who says the ticket had been given to him by houdini. This is another i recommend you rent. Its so good!

MorriganAngelus - April 5, 2004 02:26 AM (GMT)
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - Rex Harrison was absolutely brilliant, as always.

My Fair Lady - ::sings I Could Have Danced All Night at the top of her lungs::

Back To The Future I, II, III

Moulin Rouge

Interview with the Vampire - I love this movie but the book is way better. ^_^

Ever After: A Cinderella Story

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - "She turned me into a newt!! I got better." That scene is my favorite in the movie. The next time you watch it pay close attention to John Cleese and Eric Idle in the scene where they are wanting to burn the witch, those two are trying their best not to crack up. :lmao:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Tim Curry at his prettiest. ^_^

Casablanca - Best. Movie. Ever. Made.

Gone with the Wind - Two words: Clark Gable :faint:

Pride and Prejudice - mini-series with Colin Firth. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. I love it even more every time I see it.

Evil Dead trilogy - Hail to the king, baby! :yay:

An Affair to Remember - Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. One of the most romantic and beautiful movies made (and it was, three times!).

POTC - Obviously.

The Posideon Adventure

Grease

Office Space

The Life of Brian
- Another Monty Python movie.

Spaceballs - And every other movie directed by Mel Brooks. The man is a comedic genius!

and last but not least...

Dracula - Gary Oldman can bite me anytime he wants.

Nefduliniel - April 5, 2004 04:27 PM (GMT)
Hmm...My favorite movies are:

The Wizard of Oz: I used to run around the house in my slippers with my cat (whom I named Todo [he died about three years ago])

The Stand: The movie was great though the book was better...Stephen King is brilliant

City of Angels: Nicolas Cage...need I say more?

Gone in Sixty Seconds: Another Nic Cage classic

Face Off: Nic Cage and John Travolta

Footloose: "Everybody Cut loose...footloose..."

Alice in Wonderland: my favorite animated film...and the book is awesome too...

I have a few more, but those are the main ones...

lovingtheblueeyedangel - April 7, 2004 11:33 AM (GMT)

And I know I'm gunna love eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. And all the other upcoming EW movies.

Matt - April 8, 2004 12:58 PM (GMT)
I have quite a few..

Benny&Joon - Seriously, if you have seen this movie, you know what I mean. Brilliant actors, amazingly cute and heart warming stoy, it's just great. Johnny Depp especially, is doing a great job as the goofy Sam, and *sigh* Just see it, it's impossible to not love it.

Girl, Interrupted - Best. Movie. Ever. It's based on the book with the same name, written by Suzanna Kaysen, who spent around a year on a mental institute. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, and I cried so much in the end. Angelina Jolie does a truly brilliant job as the sociopath Lisa. She really proves that she's so much more then a pretty face. Winona Ryder's excellent too, as Suzanna Kaysen. It really makes you think.

The Lionking - So beautiful, funny, and sad. I watched it five times on cinema when I was a kid, and I wept like the baby I was everytime. I still love it exteremely much, absolutely one of the best movies I've ever seen.

The Bone Collector - Once again with the beautiful Angelina Jolie. It's a horror/thriller, and she plays this police, who's excellenton collecting evidence on the scene of crime. Brilliant movie, really creepy though. Absolutely worth watching.

Face Off - Excellent action movie.

elfardown - April 8, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)

ninque elen - May 1, 2004 06:36 PM (GMT)
To many movies I like,
way to many.
Just don't have a life
(as if that wasn't obvious all ready)

One of my favourites and one of the first movies I ever saw was:
Labyrinth
It's a fairytale kind of story but not for very small children.

As vampire lover, I can of course cannot leave out:
Interview with the vampire
A love for vampires was born here and has never dies out again.

Johnny Depp is one of my favourites to and there are two movies I totally adore:
Benny and Joon
Very sweet and cute
The ninth gate
Scary and devilish but very intriging

Well and then of course Lotr.
But I am sure I don't need to say that.
I like many more movies but mentioning them all would take way to much time. I just wanted to share some of my favourites.

BruisesFade - May 16, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
Too many <_<
These are just a few of my favorites... in no particular order.

Lolita - This is definetly my favorite movie of all time! It has this certain darkness and intensity in it, that I love. It's also a really erotic, rare, and original story. Just brilliant.

A Walk To Remember - This is one of the most heart-warming and inspirational movies I've ever seen. Even though he only realizes that he loves her after he sees her beauty during the play, it's still very sweet. I cried when I read the book, but not when I saw the movie... weird.

Sylvia - It's haunting, really... and it's a true story. The plot is very realistic and honest, and that's what makes it great.

Empire Records - Hilarious, and just plain awesome!

Lord Of The Rings - I worship The Fellowship Of The Ring and The Return Of The King. The Two Towers was good as well, but it kind of dragged on and it needed more about Frodo too. But I live for these movies... they are truly amazing. Of course...

Moulin Rouge - The only musical I really liked... very sad too

Ever After - It's the best version of Cinderella... absolutely beautiful, and I love how it's being told to the Grimm brothers by the old woman throughout the film. That was a nice touch.

Beauty And The Beast - My favorite fairy tale, ever since I was a little kid.

Speed - Don't ask. I liked it for some reason.

LizzieLij21 - May 17, 2004 02:24 AM (GMT)
I got quite a few favorites

1. Run Lola Run: This is one of my all time favorite movies. I know it stars Elijah's Ex, but I just love the energy of the movie. And plus I love the fact that she is trying to help her beau.

2. The Crow: I think that this is the best Brandon Lee movie ever made. It's dark and it's haunting. I love the gothic feel to it!

3. Stigmata: Best thriller out there. It's all about how people can get these Stigmata and be freaked out about it. It's sorta like a more updated version of the Exorcist....but better!

4. Heathers: Great Winoa Ryder movie! It's about a girl who kills the popular girls in her school (Who are also her friends). Their names are Heathers and she kills them and anyone who gets in her way. I found this one of my favorite dark comedy because of how Ryder kills her friends.

5. Seven: Scary! Starring Brad Pitt as a Dective is good, but it's even better when you got the Seven Deadly Sins involved! The director uses them in the most creative usage and Kevin Spacey is great as the Killer!

6. Frality: Awsome movie about a murder who terrorizing a small Texas town. But this killer is Bill Paxton! His character think that they are Demons and set out to kill them, and it passed down to McConaughey's character. That along won me over! I love the fact that this a unique idea for a movie. I also love the killings, although you don't see the whole thing.

7. Monster's Inc: Cutest Pixar Movie Ever! This is another one of my all time favorite movies! The Monsters are cute and I always like Crystal and Goodman.

8. Monster's Ball: One of Halle Berry's better movies. I was totally conviced by her character's struggle and even though I didn't like Thoruton's character....I loved the movie. I felt bad that the son died in the movie.

9. Monster: Wow! I don't have any words to describe how much this movie meant to me! I believed that Theron was the seriel killer Aileen Wuornos. It was great!

10. The X-Men Movies (1 and 2) : I loved the comic books and when I saw both of them, I was amazed! These movies live up to the comics! The action is spectaular and I love each of the characters. But I have to agree one of the girls, Hugh Jackman is the best part of the movie! He really is convincing as Wolverine.

11. Van Helsing: This movie was awsome! I loved the special effects, the classic horror charaters (Mainly Dracula, cause he seem to live up to the expecation of being a dark and gothic playboy and Frankinstein's Monster because he talks and that never happens with that character. I found that character to be a refreshing change) and Jackman was great as Van Helsing. I also like Kate Beckinsale's character because she is one strong woman and I liked strong women.

12. Underworld: Another Kate Beckinsale movie about the war between Vampires and Werewolves. I also like the special effects in this movie and i loved the Romeo and Juliet aspects of this movie. And I loved the guns they used and of course I like Beckinsale's outfit.

That is all I have but believe me I have more favorites than this.

lizzie

Kaylee Ann - July 16, 2004 03:07 AM (GMT)
These are a few that immediately pop into my head when I think of favoritism:

1 King Arthur: What can I say? I'm a sucker for this genre, as most of my choices will be medieval, knights-in-shinning-armor bound. I just saw this movie today and, well, let's just say I haven't been so emotionally involved with characters in a movie since, say, ROTK. I cried like a baby. Fantastic story, immense emotion, fabulous action sequences, and characters that clutched my heart so thoroughly - fabulous acting. The relationship between Arthur and his Knights is just... ugh... I'm going to cry again if I try to explain it. Lol. I love it.

2. The Lord of The Rings: I pretty much see all the three movies as one movie all together. I laughed, I cried, I even shook my fist at the screen a couple of times. Heart-wrenching sequences and characters that I will never forget, as they and the story of Frodo, oddly enough, helped me through some difficult times. It will always have a special spot in my heart--I can't even count on my fingers and toes how many times I've seen each installement, even ROTK.

3. DragonHeart: A medieval adventure with the most hilarious of dragons, Draco. I just loved this movie because, once again, I'm obsessed with valor, knights, dragons--anything mystical and fantays-orientated, really. The humor was absolutely sweet, and the relationships built between a Brother, knight, and Draco the dragon is absolutely precious, but the ending was also another one that broke my heart. I cried, again. Ugh... just brilliant.

4. The Good Son: I don't know... I just - this movie creeped me out a bit, but in a good way. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time, literally shaking my fist at how Elijah's character was treated momentarily. It was a good movie, but can show how a friendship could go oh so very long.

5. Dirty Dancing: A classic! I love it, and that's all I really can say.

~*JazGray*~ - January 21, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy : I heart this film so much that I would sell my soul to Sauron to be in the story. For me, LOTR is the best original creation-go movie for any writer and then director. Plus, I love the book too! *hugs it*

Grease : Because it's a cool musical and it has John Travolta in there when he was young and handsome. Man he was a good dancer! Its colourful, fun and has been pure entertainment for me since when I first watched it when I was nine. It just fits for every occasion, whether it be a girls night in, Christmas Eve in bed to third/fourth date with a guy! I love Grease!

Bram Stoker's Dracula + Dracula 2000/2001 : Need I say more? These are both super stories, and such a fantastic fiend! I love anything with Dracula, except for crappy panto's and your friend's dad offer for the lead role and name's you half way through! Also, as for the films, because I kinda went off on a tangent, Dracula 2000/2001 had Gerard Butler in and Stoker's Dracula has Keanu Reeves in!!

Pirates of the Caribbean : Why must I explain? If anyone cannot see that this is a good film, I want to know what's wrong with them. And girls feast your eyes on Johnny Depp the sexiestpirateknowntomankind!

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen : Strangely enough, I only mentionned this because of my love for Mr S (Sexy) Townsend's role as Dorian Gray. I'm not too keen on the rest of the film. :(
I have more, but I was getting the feeling that I could have gone on forever with them!
