Okay, so I bought this bottle of Xenadrine EFX, and Im wondering if anyone here has heard anything about this product? WHat do you think?
Hey Sandra
Just my thoughts....
I would just say be careful and follow directions to the letter. I tried doing a little bit of research for you, but couldn't find anything other than information from the company that makes Xenadrine...I would rather find an article from some non-biased researchers. Maybe read the ingredients on the bottle and look them up to see what they do. Alot of times the ingredients are just vitamins or herbal supplements mixed together with different chemicals. But just because something is 'natural' or 'herbal' does not mean that it is good for you, this is the same for 'synthetic' chemicals. Check to see if the product is FDA approved...maybe search the FDA database to see if you can find any other information about it. Talk to a doctor or a nutritionist before using it. :)
This product does not contain ephedra...which is good, because ephedra can be really dangerous. It causes over stimulation of adrenergic receptors (basically causes non specific over stimulation of cells that secrete epinephrine and norepinephrine) this can cause increased heart rate among other things.
The problem with ephedra was that it was being used in inappropriate and unproven places (ie. weight loss) - the actual herb has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. People have a tendency to think that if one pill is good, two is better...but this can lead to disastrous consequences. My nutrition prof told us of this one pill (don't remember which one) that basically partially stopped your cells from producting energy (ATP)...it was relatively safe when only one pill was taken...but if you exceeded the dose, it was very dangerous because of course you need energy in order to continue living.
Okay..now, I'm no expert in this subject area...I would just say read read read and read more before you take something that hasn't been prescribed (or even if you want to with something that is prescribed).
Again...be sure to follow directions, as misuse can lead to health problems.
Remember...everything in moderation. ^_^ Too much of a good thing can be really bad. Even too much of certain vitamins and minerals can be harmful.
Sorry if I rambled...but I like doing stuff like this - it's like a riddle!! Whenever I heard of a new disease or something, I immediately see what I can find out about it (what can I say, I'm a science geek...I love pathology and nutrition). :yay:
