Hi, and welcome to IWTA!
Thank you for allowing me to interview you!
At first I will ask you some basic questions that you don't have to answer if you like tthem to stay unknown to the public.
Kim: *Giggles* Hi yourself! I'm really excited about being interviewed!
My life is an open book.....ask away!
Name: Kimberly Shea Miles
Age: 23
Birthday: May 26th
Location: City of the Angeles... Los Angeles, California
Native Language: English....Southern English that is....I'm a Georgia Peach by birth!
Acquired Language: Spanish....and I'm learning French, but well...I'm shamefully bad at it currently!
Education: I have a split Bachelors Degree in Art History and Fine Art and I am working on my Master's Degree on the Social History of Italian Art...wow. what a mouth full!
Profession: I work for a company called Sanctuary Records in the Artist Relations Department.
Tell our members who you are Kim!
ok....wow! This could take some time! Being a Gemini, there is no one Kim...there are MANY Kim's!
I'd like to think that I am an easy gal to get along with, I have no patience for prejudices of any kind. I respect anyone and everyone on the same level and I love meeting new people. I feel like the people I meet enrich my life and bring a lot into it. Basically, I feel like I am a giant accumulation of bits and pieces of all the people I've met.
How long have you been writing stories?
Actually, since I was old enough to write. I have my very first story framed. I was 6....and it is one wild story! I got my first typewriter when I was 8 (an old one my granddaddy used in World War II) and well....still writing!
So when did you discover Fan-fiction writing?
Almost exactly One year ago. I'd never had any interest at all till I was surfing the EWFN (my pervy crush, Lija) and stumbled across the Fan-fiction section. I owe entirely my interest of Fan-fiction to one story. And that is Ursula's "Last Chance on the Stairway"
It must be the most popular Fan-fiction ever being written... What do you think is the major difference between original writing and Fan-fiction?
Ah, well. Fan-fiction I think is more of an accumulation of fantasies stemming from our own wishful fantasy - Kind of a way to take our crush and make them a part of our life. Original writing I think is part of a person. It leaves the realm of wishful thinking and takes a life of its own. It's another entity entirely.
How many Fan-fictions have you written so far?
Maybe I'm Amazed is the first Fan-fiction I've ever written.
How do you feel about it?
You know....it's crazy really but I feel wonderful about it. When I first started, I didn't realize how much I would come to love it and enjoy writing it. It practically writes itself!
Are you proud of it?
I am, yes! Only because it has gotten such a warm reception, and it makes me proud that other's are enjoying it.
Let me assure you it is brilliant, but I must have told you a thousand times. Do you also show your writing to your closer circle of friends?
*laughing* As far as the fan fiction, no, I haven't. It is my secret self aside from my friends! But my friends all have read numerous poems and short stories I've written.
I assume you enjoy writing, could you elaborate why, and what is so special about it?
I love it so much. It is my escape and my sanity. It transports me into another world. No matter what is going on in my life, whether it be good or bad, I can count on my writing to embrace me and comfort me.
Do you feel the occasion of writers block often?
OHHHH Yessss....My it is the WORST feeling! To be blocked creativly. I had the worst case of it not too long ago with MIA...it was so frustrating that it literally kept me awake at night!!!! *LOL*
Oh who can't relate! Tell us how you get of it.
A LOT OF RED WINE! And the soundtrack to "Tango Lesson" I have realized that my writers block always comes around when I am stressed out. So, I light some candles have some wine and this fantastic passionate music. *I'm such a romantic at heart*!!!
Well, for Americans under 21 that advice is completely useless you know? But I let you pass *wink*
What inspires you to write?
Love. Love in all forms, family, friendship and romance. Like I said....hopeless romantic here!
Are there specific genres that capture you, writing or reading-wise?
Historical fiction. I love any story created around actual history. Because in my opinion, what could be more romantic that history and the past. Right now, I'm the Art History lover in me is really loving the fictions written around actual paintings!
What are some great stories you personally recommend others to read from your fellow authors?
Oh! So many! Last Chance on the Stairway and The Warning Sign by BloomieCurse; Stains of Blue, Winds of Change and especially Compromised Integrity by Laila; Pandora's Box by Magical Rhiannon; Loving the Dead by Ryvyan. And actually there is a wonderful story called "A Perfect Circle" written by Lady that I MUST mention because it is sooo fabulous! She has her own webpage for that and I'd be happy to recommend it if anyone wants to read it. It's seriously one of the best Orli fictions I've ever read.
You named a lot of people there, Tell us about your friends in this forum?
Well everyone is wonderful, but Laila and Ursi hold very special places in my heart. I never thought that I would find such wonderful friends halfway around the world. I have come to realize how someone you've never met face to face can become indispensable in your life.
Let's talk about "Maybe I'm amazed again", how did you get the idea for that?
Well....actually! This is a funny story! I was in fact the poor sap sitting on the freeway in LA stuck in traffic just like Cassie in Chapter 1. There was no end in sight, so I went off into a day dream. And MIA was born!
Do you identify with Cassie?
Absolutely. In a way, Cassie is very much a side of myself. I've had experiences in my past that are parallel to the one's I've given Cassie. And I am an artist that moved across the country. But my medium is paint. (although I did take glass blowing for several semesters) A lot of her thoughts inside are mine as well. I figure we all write ourselves into our characters in one way or another.
The other characters you created how to do you create them?
Cassie's best friends Mo and Trudie are directly derived from two of my closest friends. I just expanded on their outwardly obvious traits. Then of course as people influence my life...I began to integrate them as well *Cough* like Laila! When I created Ursula in my story, I had a totally different person in mind. And as I sat and began writing this Ursula emerged. My mind just seems to take off on its own sometimes!
How about your interpretation of Orlando or Viggo - wishful thinking or more?
A little bit of both. I read numerous interviews on the guys and tried to capture these things within the realities of my characters. Orlando's transformation from fresh faced youthful first time actor to the mega heart-throb, and Viggo's love of art...But also...I made them how I would hope they would be! I mean, really...not many men are passionate and romantic as mine are!
Speaking of the Lads, do you want to tell us how you came to be interested in and what you like about them?
Honestly, it wasn't a happy scenario where I saw the movie and just loved them. I went through a vicious break up that nearly was my undoing, and I watched FOTR on video...I didn't even see that one in the theatre. And when I watched that, something in me became riveted. It was about the time TTT was being released and so began my journey. The movies became my distraction until I no longer needed a distraction. Then I just feel in love with the boys like the rest of the world!
Being so fortunate to live in LA, for someone as far away as I am, it seems as if you must cross the paths of starts all the time - Did you ever come across any of the lads?
I have, yes! I live in Santa Monica and have seen Elijah several times. I live on the corner of 6th and Montana...his mom's house was straight up Montana! Also...I stood among the thousands of screaming Orli fans at the premier of ROTK in Westwood!
Some are just lucky... ever talked to him?
I made a complete ass of myself in front of Elijia once!! Sooo embarassing. I was at the Third Street Promenade, and outdoor mall that runs along the ocean in Santa Monica. In the parking structure, I was just getting into my car when he pulled up next to me in a black mini cooper. He came around his car and I was face to face with him...and I totally went brain dead. I muttered something about his eyes and ran to my car like a chicken with it's butt on fire! I hated myself for days!!! He must of thought I was wrong in the head!
*grins* Let's change topic back to writing - we were kind of drifting!
Hahahahah! true! Ok...back to writing!
You said "Maybe I'm amazed" is your first fiction, is there anything different you would like to write about?
I am working an elijah fiction in my head right now. And quite possibly a spin off story about Viggo from MIA....
Is any of that sure enough to be called a plan, as something to look forward to for your fans?
Yes. I did some brainstorming and have outlines for both ideas! I'm up to my normal tricks of making as many shocking twists and turns as possible!!!
Sounds interesting, and very promising indeed!
I can assure you they are very promising *wink wink nudge nudge!*
Ahhh, you made me curious, please tell us more, tease us, you know we love it!
I'm trying to create mystique....hopefully it's working! I will tell you this, though. The spin off to MIA will be a vignette revolving around all the characters I've brought into MIA. I've named it appropriately "love, actually"
You know I adore Viggo and how I can't wait for it - when will you start posting it?
Seeing as I can only work on one story at a time, it's going to be a bit. I have to give all of my focus on the story I'm currently working on, or I fear it suffers because I become absorbed in another.
What do you think is essential on the way to become a good author?
Being Neurotic. *LOL* just kidding! Being able to see the world though the eyes of others. I mean, if you are of a one track mind, how can you possible expect others to relate? I also think to a degree it is essential to be a little eccentric. You've gotta get out there and really feel life. The more you feel, the more you can make others feel.
I know this is a mean question, but do you consider yourself a good writer and what do you still wish to improve about your writing?
Vanity is a one way trip to failure. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. But I'm also confident enough with myself to know that I love it enough to be good.
What do you consider most important in a good fiction?
Three dimensional charecters. Charecters have to have depth and emotions. I think it's so important that readers feel like maybe it's someone they could really know in their own life.
Do you think Fan fiction automatically can never reach the quality of an original fiction?
I think that it most certainly can reach just as high a quality. It all comes from the same place...
As a writer do you have something published?
As a matter of fact, yes. Two items. A poem that is in a reader's digest compulation of poetry, and An article I wrote was published in an art trade a couple of years ago.
Is there someone you'd like to write with?
Without a doubt; Laila and Ursi
What is your favourite fiction and/or writer here?
That's tough because I'm totally addicted to two equally. Last chance on the stairway and Compromised Integrity. Can it be a tie?! *LOL*
What are your favourite Books and writers?
My all time favourite book is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. And I love anything at all by Oscar Wilde. Shakespeare rules my heart, though! I'm a total Shakespeare Dork! Currently I really like the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown AWESOME read!
*smile* I would have bet you'd say Pablo Neruda
Well for sure he is my favourite poet. No one compares! I reckon my dork ass doesn't view writers and poets the same....dur!! *lol*
Well and finally - do you have any advices for other writers?
Never let anyone make you feel like you aren't good enough. Take constructive criticism with a grain of salt and learn for it. But most importantly, realize than not everyone will like what or how you write. Trying to please everyone will lead to a stomach ulcer! Write what you love, and the only person who has to love it completely is yourself.
