Prologue
Dana walked through the halls of her high school, surveying everyone around her. She ignored practically everyone there and they ignored her. She didn't care really, but sometimes things got a little lonely but hopefully things would change for the better. That same morning she had found out from her parents that they were moving to Los Angeles in a few days and she was thrilled to hear the news. Her father had just gotten a new job there and was supposed to start as soon as possible. He worked as an engineer and a mechanic, which made him very desirable for engineer companies and such. Her mother was a stay at home mom and Dana couldn't quite understand why her mother never went back to work after she was old enough to watch herself. Of course, her mother was the protective type and couldn't grasp the thought of leaving her 'baby' alone in the house. Sometimes though, it got on Dana's nerves and she would lock herself in her room to escape the smothering of her mother.
Dana made it to her locker and took her homework out and stuffed them into her backpack. School was out for the day and she was rushing to get home, she found out about a special on TV with the LOTR cast and she was very excited to see it. As she slammed her locker shut, she quickly turned around only to smack right into someone. She looked up into a tall man's dark eyes, he seemed to be a giant to her. He wore a long brown trench coat with an old looking suit underneath and atop of his head was a raggedy looking brown hat sitting on top of gray hair. He had a long mustache to go with his hair and he just stared down at Dana. "Uh, sorry. Ex-excuse me." Dana looked down at the floor as she moved around the man. The only thing she could think of, of why a man like that was there was being a student's father or relative. Without looking back, she quickly walked in the direction of the exit. The man she bumped into turned around and watched her leave the building with a thoughtful look upon his face.

Dana rushed into her house, slamming the door shut behind her. She could hear music coming from the kitchen and knew her mom was doing the dishes. Not wanting to be asked questions about school, she quickly ran upstairs to her room to watch the show. She shut her door, jumped on her bed, and turned on the tv. She had made it just in time, the cast had just come out to be greeted by the talk show host. They all sat down on the sofa that was set out for them and all were given a microphone. She sat with her ankles crossed hanging in the air while her head was at the foot of the bed. She couldn't keep her eyes off of Orlando Bloom either. He just looked too good with the long sleeved bright blue button up shirt with a dark coat hanging over it. And the pants were a worn out black pair of jeans with boots to match. He was her favorite out of the group and every time she saw him a smile was brought to her face. She especially loved his dark, curly brown hair, and how sometimes a strand of it would fall in front of his eyes.
Just as the show finished up she heard her name being called for dinner she rushed down the stairs. She saw her mom getting the table ready while her dad was sitting at the table reading what looked like a mechanics magazine. "Hey hun." Her mom said when Dana rushed into the dining room. "You look awfully chipper." Her dad said when he looked up to see his daughter. "Yeah, I just finished watching something cool on tv." Dana explained as she helped her mom set up the table. They all ate their dinner without one speaking to the other and Dana was lost in thought about them moving, getting even more excited the more she thought about it.

The long awaited day had finally arrived for Dana and she couldn't help but gawk at the house in front of her. It was a two story white colored house with a porch instead of a stoop like her old one. There was a huge window to the left of the door and it looked to Dana as if it led to the living room. As she entered the house she saw the stair case leading upstairs in front of her. Getting excited to pick her room she ran upstairs with one of her boxes and found the perfect room. It was huge. It had a balcony with two glass doors and white curtains that hung down to the floor. As she looked up she saw a tiny chandelier that sparkled beautifully with the lights on. As she looked to her left she noticed a built in desk with a whole bunch of drawers and a light hanging from the wall and facing down to the top of the desk. "MOM!! I FOUND MY ROOM!!" She yelled as she set the box down gently on the floor with a big grin on her face.
By the time they were finished carrying the boxes inside and placing the furniture where it needed to be it was around midnight and everyone was too exhausted to stay up much later. Dana nestled into her bed and drifted off into a deep sleep. And to dream of a man with a ridged forehead and long teeth where the canines should be.

Chapter 1 The slayer
The Monday after they moved was Dana's first day in school. Though she was fairly nervous, she figured it couldn't be any worse than it was at her previous school. For clothes she decided on a pair of blue jeans that flared out slightly at the end of the legs and a light red tank top. She pulled her black curly hair into a half pony tail and allowed some strands to fall in front of her face. After feeling pretty confident about her choice she walked downstairs, said her goodbyes to her parents and started the walk to school.
As she neared the campus her heart started to beat faster and she could feel her face flush up. She gripped the strap of her book bag tighter and took in a deep breath. She stared up at the looming building in front of her and tried to work up the courage to go inside. Just as she was about to take a step someone was suddenly shoved into her, almost knocking her down. As she turned her head to see who bumped into her she could hear laughter, the laughter she was all too familiar with. "I-I'm sorry." A girl spoke softly to her and Dana realized that this girl was the one that got shoved. "Don't be. Are you alright?" Dana placed a gentle hand on the girl's shoulder and tried to look into her eyes, but being as the girl's head was down it made it quite impossible. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine." The girl started to walk away, but Dana stopped her, turned her around and smiled at the girl. "What's your name?" "Me? I-I mean, my name. You want to know my name?" The girl seemed utterly shocked and Dana couldn't help but laugh slightly. "Yeah, I do. I'm Dana by the way." "K-kat. My name is Kat." She stammered as she slowly lifted her head. "Kat huh?" Kat looked scared for a moment and then nodded her head. "Cool." Dana started to walk towards the entrance of the school and noticed that Kat wasn't following. "Come on!!" Dana waved her hand for Kat to follow and Kat just pointed to herself and mouthed "me". "Yeah, come on. I need a guide. Help me figure out where the office is?" Dana more asked than anything. "Uh, yeah sure. No problem." Kat was starting to loosen up a bit as they walked.
Dana started to talk about her old school and how she knew exactly how Kat felt and Kat explained to Dana the rules of being in this high school. Where each class of students sit during lunch, that sort of thing. After Dana got her class schedule and locker combination from the office, Kat offered to show her where the library was so she could get the text books that she needed for her classes. As soon as they got to the library the warning bell went off. "Oh, I've got to get to class. If you need any more help with anything, just let me know." "Okay, thanks Kat." Dana waved to Kat as she ran off to class, leaving Dana by the swinging doors to the library.
Dana turned toward the doors and slowly pushed them open. Only to be welcomed by an empty library with rows of book shelves and tables. Her footsteps on the hardwood floor echoed throughout and gave an eerie feeling in Dana's mind. "Uh, hello? Is anyone here?" She stopped at a counter where students checked out their books. "Hello!!" She said a little louder after getting no answer before. As she turned to leave someone stepped out of the office next to the counter. "Yes, can I help you." Dana jumped and quickly turned around, trying to act like she hadn't just been startled. "Oh, yes, I'm looking for text books for...." "I know you." The librarian interrupted her. Dana noticed that he had a thick British accent. "Umm, I don't think so. I've never seen you before." The British man ignored her and started to walk behind the counter. "I was told you were coming here, that you'd be at this school." "Oh, so they don't just tell the teachers huh? They tell librarians too?" Dana was confused, and a bit frightened at the way the man was acting. "Yes, yes. Y-you're the one, Dana." The man had been wearing glasses, which Dana hadn't noticed until after he took them off and scratched the top of his head. "How do you know my name? Do they tell you that too." "Yes, they tell me everything I need to know about you." "The school?" He was really confusing her now and Dana was starting to feel more than a bit frightened. "No, the council." "The who?" "The council. They're the one's who find out who the next one shall be o-or is and sends out a-a watcher." "Okay, old man. Slow down for just a minute here. What in the world are you talking about?" Dana had put her hands up and she was trying to unscramble the mess that was her brain.
"I'm talking about you Dana." He had placed his hands on her shoulders and was looking her straight in the eyes. "Okay, what about me?" She shrugged his hands off her and stepped away from him. "You're the one. You've been chosen." "Chosen? To do what?" She was really starting to get freaked by the things he was talking about. "To fight the vampires."
"Huh?"

Chapter 2 The New School
For a moment, she stared at him. Her green eyes pierced his brown ones. Then she began to laugh.
"Right, right very funny. For a moment, I almost believed you. Well you have had your fun could you now please give me my books. I have more things to do," she said while she looked at her watch. It's eleven o'clock all ready and it would be nice to meet up with Kat for lunch.
"No, no really. You see it wrongly...it's not a joke. I am..."
"Listen Mr. whatever-your-name is. Do you think it is funny or something to fool people who are just new? Cause I don't think it is funny. Not funny at all. So please just give me the books I need".
He opened his mouth but the furious look she gave him made him close it again. He turned around to the wooden polished desk behind him and started rummaging trough the papers on it. "Let me see," he muttered to himself, "ah yes here it is. Your booklist. Hmm," he frowned, "you just wait here I will get them".
With the paper in one hand he began to walk trough the old library, that was stacked with very old but also very new books, picking out books here and there. He laid them, one by one, on his desk making the pile grow. After 20 minutes he was finally done, "there, that are all the books you need for the coming time," he smiled.
"Good, you can send the bill to my parents. The school has the address," she said and picked the books up. They where surprisingly light; she had expected them to be heavier. She saw him look at her attentively while he said, "looks like you have little troubling lifting that".
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"You will learn," he added mysteriously.
"Humpf whatever you say". She turned around and marched out of the library. She had enough of this odd man.
"Now to find my locker," she muttered to herself and she looked around.
It was a big school and getting lost always had been her talent.
"Looking for something?" Someone suddenly asked in a thick British accent. Startled she turned around in a sweeping move, making the books slide from the pile she was carrying. Desperately she tried to stable them but most of them fell with a bang on the ground.
"Great, just what I need," she scolded and knelt down to pick them up.
"Here let me help you," the person who startled her said and knelt down too.
"Uh thanks". She looked up and saw a cute looking guy with green eyes and messy dark blond hair.
"Hi I am Billy, sorry I scared you" he said and handed her some of her books.
"Hi uhm Billy, that is ok. Thanks for helping me," she said while getting up with the books safely clutched in her arms.
"Was the least I could do after making you let those books drop".
"Well thanks anyway. I am kinda new to this place so could you maybe tell me where I can find the lockers?"
"Of course...on one condition".
"That is?" She asked suspiciously.
"Tell me your name".
"Ah that I can do," she grinned, "it's Dana Ciacova".
"Well let me show you the way to our lockers Dana Ciacova," he said while he took some of her books and began to guide her trough the school. She looked around noticing that it was an old building. The cream coloured paint was coming of on many places, many things were scratched and definitely worn down from use. Occasionally she thought she heard some strange noises but Billy didn't seemed to be responding to it so she shrugged it off. Deciding that it probably was just part of the school.
"And here we are," Billy said showing her a hall with many lockers on a row. "What is your number?"
"Hmm let me see," she said while getting out her keys from her pocket and looking at the number on the label that was attached to the key, "Number 666".
Scared he looked at her, "you're sure about that?"
"Yeah, why you ask?"
"Well I don't want to scare you right away but...the last 3 persons who had that number all died, in a very peculiar way. They say that it is because 666 is the number of...the devil," he whispered.
She laughed uncomfortably.
"I am not planning on dying early or in a weird way". The bravery in her voice was but a facade and she knew that. Being a hero never had been her style. "Well let's have a look at this monster locker".
Slowly they approached the locker, her heart was beating rapidly and the palms of her hands were getting sweaty.
Carefully she eyed the thing. It looked normal enough, just like all the other ones. Deciding it was just all nonsens she put the key in the lock, opened the door and stared at the dark hole that was gaping at her. Just when she was about to relax a cold breeze was creeping over her skin. Involuntarily she shivers, this thing does give her the creeps but with Billy's eyes resting on her she tries to pretend nothing is wrong.
"Well thank you for helping me again," she babbled while shoving in her books as quickly as possible. Billy handed her the last books he is holding, "no problem. I..." he said but falls silent then. Dana has frozen up while looking at the title of the book she is holding.
It said: The Life of a Slayer.

Chapter 3 Making a friend
Dana walked down the dark neighborhood streets to her house, she had to stay after school to catch up on the basic computer techniques in her computer class and by the time her teacher finished up, it had become dark out. She was offered a ride home, but decided against it. At the time she thought it a great idea to walk home, it seemed peaceful. Now, as she turned the corner onto the street her house was located, she found it to be a bit eerie.
As she took a few more steps down the road she could've swore she heard the sound of footsteps behind her. But when she stopped to listen, not a sound could be heard except the sounds of a few crickets. At first she had thought it her imagination until she kept hearing them every time she continued her walk home. Deciding it better safe then sorry, she sped up her pace, hoping to give her stalker the hint she was trying to give out. Her hopes fell as soon as she heard the footsteps speed up also. Feeling her heart race and the rise of panic she turned her fast paced walk into a full fledged run. She turned her head to look behind her and she could see a figure of a man chasing after her. She turned her attention back in front of her and she could see the porch of her house and she sped up a little faster. But before she could make it, her foot got caught on part of the sidewalk that had lifted up from old age, causing her to fall face down on the pavement. She quickly turned on her back and frantically scooted backwards, trying to get herself back on her feet. As she got back on her feet and was prepared to run again, she heard a familiar voice call out to her. "Dana!! Hey, wait up!!" She stopped and turned to see who it was that was calling her and the man that had been chasing her walked out of the shadows to reveal himself. Billy!! God damnit!! You scared me half to death!!"Dana shouted when she figured out who had been following her. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare ya. I was trying to catch up to you and walk ya home."
"Thanks. Uh, sorry. For yelling at you, I mean. It's just that I'm not all too familiar with this place yet and I've been getting freaked out all day today." Dana brushed the dirt that had collected on her clothing when she fell. "Oh yeah? What sort of freaky things have happened." Billy asked with a curious tone in his voice. "Huh?" Dana asked, being distracted with cleaning up her clothes. "The freakiness. What has happened that's so freaky?" Billy asked again. "Oh, um, just little things is all." "Like that book you had earlier?" Billy asked, knowing she knew what he was talking about. "Uh, I'm sure that's just a fictional book. I think the librarian gave it to me by accident." Dana replied with a laugh. After that she tried everything she could to get that out of her mind. And well, with Billy bringing it up, it was kind of difficult to do. "I'm sure you're right." Billy wasn't sounding to ensuring on Dana's side, but she was still freaked out about the book and the locker. Plus the librarian was just all around creepiness. If Dana had to choose on a scale of 1-10 on the creepiness level she would have to choose a 10 for the librarian. All the things he mentioned to her about fighting vampires and then when he asked her about how she didn't have any troubles lifting her books. All of it just weirded her out, big time. "So, have you read the book yet?" Billy asked and Dana looked at him confused, she was lost in her own thoughts that she forgot what they were talking about. "What?" "The book, you know, "The Life of a Slayer"? Have you read any of it?" "Oh, uh, no. And I don't think I'm going to either." Dana started to head to her house and Billy followed her. "Why not? Sounds interesting to me." "It's just not my sort of thing. I don't care for that sort of stuff." "Ah, I see." Billy said with a nod. "What?" Dana looked at him with a confused expression. "Oh, nothing. You just don't want to get any more freaked out then you already are. Am I right?" "What?? No. I told you. It's just not something I care about." "Denial." Billy said and then started to quietly whistle. "Whatever, Billy. Anyway, here's my house. Thanks for walking me the rest of the way home." "Hey, no problem. Glad I could help." Billy said with a big smile across his face.
"Well, I guess I'll see you later then?" Dana said as she opened up the door. "I guess." Was all Billy said before Dana closed the door behind her. She liked Billy, he was funny, sweet, kind, and caring. Cute too. Dana looked at the time on her watch and it had said ten thirty. With a groan she walked up the stairs to get ready for bed. In the bathroom she took off the pull over sweater and she felt a stinging sensation around her elbow. She looked at it and saw blood covering most of her elbow. She made a disgusting face at it and the cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol. The cut was pretty big, about the length of your middle finger. Once she was done with that she changed into her pajamas, brushed her teeth and hair and climbed into bed, falling asleep almost instantly.
The next morning she got up about and hour earlier than she usually had to. She walked up to her stand up mirror and began to pull her hair up into a messy ponytail. As she was doing so she noticed something very peculiar. She had to squint at her reflection to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. The cut on her elbow was now only the size of a small paper cut.

Hello gals, something apparently went wrong and made chapter 4 move from it's original place. It's now right after chapter 1. I will fix this by deleting it there and posting it here. I don't know any other way.
Chapter 4 Strange events
Scared she looked at it, knowing fully well that healing so soon was not realistic. "What on earth is happening to me," she whispered to the reflection in the mirror but it said nothing back. Carefully she put on some clothes, walked back into her bedroom, and started stuffing pens and paper in her bag for school. Then she saw it, on her desk was laying still, the book the librarian had given to her. Almost unwillingly, she picked it up. It couldn't hurt to read it; she defended her actions toward herself and sank down on the small couch that stood in her room. She started reading. With growing worry, she read trough the first pages. Everything seemed so familiar, so like what was happening to her lately. Still she felt no ready to accept it, hoping to find another explanation. The book said that if she indeed was the slayer that she had gotten much more strength than the average human.
"Let's prove that I am not what this book says I am," she mumbled to herself and got up. What should she try to lift, she wondered looking around. She then spotted some heavy boxes on the ground she still had to unpack. She had not been able to lift them when she had packed them in her old house and her dad had brought them up for her. Confidentially smiling she walk toward one grabbed it and lifted it, with great ease even. Shocked she let it fall, spilling the content over the floor. Even more scared she tried to think up an explanation. "Something probably has happened to the box, making it a lot lighter," she mumbled. Maybe someone had all ready taken out some things. No, this was not proving at all that she was this slayer thing. She would try something really heavy this time and she knew what is would be.
Her desk, it was made of solid oak wood and it had taken two men to lift it up and get it in her room. Nothing could have happened to that, there was nothing that could have made it lighter. With her heart thumping a bit more she walked towards it, placed both hands on the opposite side, and pulled. It was heavier indeed but to her utter amazement and shock, she found that she could lift it from the ground without pulling too much strength. With a big bang, she let it fall on the ground while she staggered towards the couch and fell down.
"Dana, what on earth are you doing? Shouldn't you get ready to go to school," she heard her mother yell from below.
"Yeah," she said insecurely.
Going to school was not really on her mind but skipping on her second day did not sound like a great idea either.
Sighing she grabbed her bag, jogged of the stairs and said goodbye to her parents.
It was another warm sunny day but she hardly noticed it. The strange things she had read and discovered occupied her mind. The closer she got to school the more people she saw. It was busy with people parking their cars, walking around, talking, screaming, laughing and having not a care in the world than their latest marks. She shivered and wished she could go back to the same state. She had never realised how happy and carefree she had been until now.
She entered the building and saw Kat standing near some lockers. Some other kids seemed to have her cornered. When she came closer, she overheard their conversation.
"What are you still doing her freak?" A beautiful looking girl with blond hair snarled at Kat. "Don't you know we don't want you here".
Some of the others grinned while another beautiful looking girl with long blond thick hair began ridiculing her clothes.
Dana gritted her teeth, she knew how it felt, how it was to stand there and feeling like everybody hated you. She stepped in, "something wrong here," she asked trying to look perfectly innocent.
"Nothing of your concern newbie unless you would like to join the freak corner to".
"I am not joining anything but I do advice you to leave my friend alone".
"Oh ho and else? You are going to punch us?"One said mockingly
"I might be tempted to do that, yes," Dana hissed at the girl.
One of the guys grabbed her by her waist and pulled her close, "why don't you join us, come and play with us," he said with a sly smile. "I am sure you would like that much more".
"I definitly would not and do not touch me!" She said angrily. Yanked his hand away and turned it on his back without much effort. "Got me?!"
"Yes," he said struggling. The others slowly backed of but not before, they had uttered some warnings about her having to pay for what she had done.
She pushed the guy away towards the others and turned toward Kat who still stood there.
"Are you ok?"

Chapter 5 Chosen
Kat nodded her head in response to Dana's question, still a bit shocked at what had happened. Dana was about the same size as her and she knew very well that she couldn't even come close to taking that guy on, but yet, Dana had no troubles at all dealing with him. "Hey, Kat. Come back to earth." Dana snapped her fingers in front of Kat's eyes and smiled while doing so. Kat shook her head to get out of the daze she was in and looked at Dana. "How did you do that?" "Do what?" Dana asked as she walked in the direction her classroom was located. "How did you take him on like that?" "Uh, I'm not sure really." Dana said quietly as she pushed a strand of her hair behind her double pierced ear. "You must exercise all the time." Kat smiled. "No, actually I don't exercise at all." Dana looked at her friend and read the expression on her face. Kat looked shocked by Dana's answer. It just left her even more confused than before.
"It's not that big of a deal really. I guess it just comes naturally." Dana answered, not noticing that they were passing by the library. "Hey, wait. I wanna look for something in here." Kat stopped Dana by placing her hand on Dana's upper arm. "What could you possibly want to look for in here?" Dana had no intention of going into the library, she just did not want to see that creepy old librarian again. "Um, a book." Kat replied sarcastically to Dana's question. "Oh, ha, right, those. They keep them in here. How could I forget." Dana rambled as she followed Kat inside. Kat just shook her head with a laugh as she headed towards the bookcases. Dana sat down at one of the tables and placed her book bag on top of it. She scanned the area with her eyes, but saw no trace of the librarian. Just as she released a sigh he came out of his office, looking through a very old book, rubbing his forehead. Not noticing her, he set the book down at a table across from the one she was sitting at. Her muscles tensed up and she was quickly trying think up a way to get out of there without him noticing. After furrowing his brow he looked away from the book and saw her sitting there, a frightened look on her face.
"Did you find the book I gave you?" He asked with a smile as he took his glasses off and cleaned them with a cloth, not seeming at all curious as to why she was there. "Uh, yeah, actually, I did." Dana smiled nervously and then looked around the library, trying to find Kat. "And..." The librarian was waiting for more. "And nothing." Dana looked over at him with an angry look on her face. "You read it didn't you." "No, well, not all of it anyway." Dana looked down at her hands and started to fiddle with her rings. "And what came of that?" "Huh?" "Did you learn about your destiny?" "Nobody knows what their destiny is, and especially not me." Dana looked at him again, getting extremely irritated by him. "Yes, you do know. You are the slayer. The chosen one." "The chosen one. Right, the one to battle the vampires and what not. Well, you know what, I'm not your girl. Sorry." "You don't have much of a choice, Dana." The librarian had walked over to her table and rested his hands on the wooden glazed table and looked her in the eyes. She could see the seriousness in his, but that didn't stop her from being stubborn. She did not want to be the chosen one, and therefore she wouldn't be. Nobody could force her to do what she didn't want to. "Sure I do. And you want to know what my choice is? My choice is to be like every other teenager girl. Go shopping, hang out with my friends, go to the movies, talk and swoon over boys. Not to go slay some "vampires" or demons or whatever you want to call them. That's not the life for me. I am no hero!!" Dana quickly got up and walked out of the library, with the librarian in tow. "You were sent here for a reason Dana. There have been numerous deaths in this place and not just normal either. Coroners can't explain it, but something supernatural is brewing. And nothing of the good sort, either." He had placed his hand on the wall to stop her from walking any further. "Supernatural? Yeah, right. Give me a break would ya. All this talk about vampires and supernatural things, it's not real. I think you need a shrink." Dana had crossed her arms and looked at him impatiently, she couldn't believe her ears. "Dammit, Dana. I'm serious about all this." He spoke quietly but sternly. "Something horrible is about to happen and you're the only one who can stop it." "Why?" "Because you were given the power to. And before this happens, I-I have to train you. Prepare you for what's to come, that's what a watcher does." Dana looked at the floor, thinking about all that had been said, then she looked up at him with a very serious expression on her face.
"Would I die?"

Hmmm...so he's a watcher, whatever that is.... this reminds me alot of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot (wrote the Princess Diaries, which, mind you, are NOTHING like the movie. they're way better, and way funnier, even if they lack Robert Schwartzman- whoops, I mean Carmine *rolls eyes*) She wrote them under the name Jenny Carrol I believe, their great (easy reads, but great, I have all five of them...least I think there's only 5...) And this librarian guy reminds me of...Father Dominic *ponders* hmm the irony in that name no? lol... yeah, I'm rambling, my bad
Anyhow, my point was; great fic, loved it to start, still loving it. Bravo. :yay:
