.:Interview with Kierra:.
Hi, and welcome to IWTA!
Thank you for allowing me to interview you!
Kierra: No problem at all
Name: Kierra
Age: 21
Birthday: 4th of February 1982
Location: Wales
Native language: English
Acquired languages: Welsh
Education: Comprehensive and I'm currently in university
Profession: Student, Waitress and sales assistant
Tell us, who is Kierra?
Kierra: ME! *lol*, nah...um...
I'm broken yet strong, confused and dazed, I'm thoughtful, free-spirited, I'm a dreamer, I get hurt too easily, mainly because I get attached too easily, I'm ignorant to danger, yet I know it will always hit me hard...I'm bitchy, but kind, I'm loveable *lol*, I'd die for love...hopeless romantic and I waffle on about things that make no sense *lol*
How long have you been writing stories?
Kierra: Well, hard to say...
I began writing at the age of 12 properly, but before that I was always top of the class with essays! lol.
My mother attempted suicide when I was 9, and after that I became anorexic, but soon I discovered that I could channel it all in to words, my feelings I mean, so that's what I did, very badly of course. As I got older, about 14/15 I stopped writing to have more of a social life but bulimia kicked in, so at 18, after my recovery, I started to write again.
I never showed anyone, it wasn't that good, but after joining ewfn and reading others work, I got into more techniques, and I think my writing has improved, even if it's just a slight improvement. My vocabulary has increased and my descriptive abilities too.
I did take a break for a bit, but I'm currently working on a new fiction now.
How many fanfics have you done so far?
Kierra: Well, none finished, as of yet, but *counts* about five or six, all unfinished. I'm constantly having new ideas, and my short story count is unstoppable *lol*.
Would you like to name them?
Kierra: Temptation Island
Complete Satisfaction
Amongst the Shadows
Once in a Lifetime
Breaking Down
Twisted Lullaby
Stripped
The Tale of the Lost City
Breaking down is the longest, written with Mel (Jadestone)
How do you feel about them?
Kierra: "Temptation Island" was my first proper fiction, not too good, but it's my little baby *lol*. I'm rather proud of "Complete satisfaction" and "Breaking down" because they were original ideas, oh and "Twisted lullaby" (written with Andie, Mel and Adrienne)
"Once in a lifetime" was closest to me because the main character was based on me.
The others I wasn't too fond of, but I will continue "Amongst the shadows", that was another original idea of mine i liked lol
Which one are you most proud of, I know that you basically answered but any special reasons?
Kierra: lol, "Breaking Down" because when I read what Mel and I had wrote, it just fitted together. She has amazing talent, and I could visualize everything we wrote.
So it was a team effort, but I still think it was my best. I believe I work better with Mel, for one, because she keeps me focused and in line, so we NEARLY finished it, but not quite. Sorry Mel!
Do you enjoy writing? Please elaborate your answer!
Kierra: I love it.
It is the most natural and most amazing thing in the world and I'm glad to have the ability to put my feelings into words. I must admit that Viggo Mortensen and the people who read my work are my inspiration and keep me going. Writing is my escape, and I just absolutely love it.
How do you get rid of writer's block?
Kierra: I don't. LOL!!
I suffer in silence, it's awful. But Viggo has gotten me out of it once or twice - Just reading his poetry. It's enough inspiration - believe me! *lol* Or I think about how much I want to achieve what he has, or Tolkien, and it drives me to write and write *lol*.
What inspires you to write?
Kierra: Natural things mostly.
I could sit at a beach, soak up the scenery and just write. Even if I'm just describing the things around me, it helps me in my writing all the time. Also, I read things by excellent authors, like some at the board, and tell myself I have to do better than that, or at least come close! *lol*
I just push myself - in a way, and I don't want to sound conceited, but sometimes I'm my own inspiration.
Are there specific genres that capture you, writing or reading-wise?
Kierra: Mostly real life stuff.
I don't like things that are to fantasy-like. Tolkien is an exception, but that is done well.
I mean, if it is written well, I'll read it, but some are just off the band wagon so to speak.
I like real life issues, I hate Mary-Sues and teen angst. A fiction has to have meaning behind it, not just...a load of crap...sorry to use that term. I'm fond of a bit of PWP slash mind.
What are some great stories you personally recommend others to read from your fellow authors?
Kierra: I must admit, shamefully, that I don't read many fictions because of my busy schedule, but I do recommend "Stains of Blue" by Laila, "Last chance on the Stairway" by Ursi, "Be your Guide" by Aurora and "Flying Blind" by Jinx...but I know that there are many, many more great fictions worthy of recognition too.
What do you think about joint fics? Are they good? Do you enjoy reading and writing them?
Kierra: Oh I love them.
Writing them is so much fun because you can share ideas and interlock chapters. Mel and I, in my opinion, have worked well together in the past. I've enjoyed writing fictions with her, and though they haven't been successful among readers or we haven't finished, I really enjoyed writing them.
Tell us about your friends in this forum?
Kierra: Well, there is Laila, hehe, she's really sweet and fun to talk to.
Aurora, hilarious to talk to via msn.
Jinx, lovely girl, gives great advice.
Ursi, shares her Orli obsession proudly!
Mena, honest and loyal.
Petra great fun, loyal, helpful and is always there for me.
bludst@ndrozez and browneyedgirli are new friends of mine (have been for a few months) but they are lovely, helpful and kind.
Jessity (firestar) and I just spent hours in my thread chatting over viggo and poetry. She is another amazing girl here.
Chrizzy, Mel, Scarlet, Chrissy...so many people I've met over the months and years here, I'd be lost without them now.
Dana and soof...peiyu, just loads of people who have seen me through the ups and downs, the happy days and sads days and through thick and thin.
They all deserve a huge thank you from me. I cant say enough good things about them.
If i've forgotten a name, I'm so sorry, im thinking about you and thanking you as always
Let's talk about Complete Satisfaction how did you get the idea for it?
Kierra: Shamefully, after reading all the slash fictions by Laila and Aurora, it just occoured to me that I had yet to challenge myself with it, so I thought, okay, lets write slash! lol
Do you identify with your characters?
Kierra: Well, I did with Alison in Once in a Lifetime because I based her around me. She was in a love triangle *coughorlinadlijcough* but I have been in her situation before, and I know how painful it is. She is a dreamer to he core, just like me, and she lets the world pass her by. She's ignorant to everything in the world, but absorbed in her problems. She writes too, hehe.
How do you feel about your characters?
Kierra: Um...thats a hard question. In a way I feel connected with them, because a bit of me is always within them...so...yeah, lol. Hard question.
Is there any specific thing you'd like to write about now?
Kierra: I might write a poem later...inspiration from this interview is coming to me! *lol*
About what?
Kierra: I'm not sure yet. Usually I just write a single line, and it all develops on how I see that single line to fit with the mood I'm in at that particular moment.
What do you think is essential on the way to become a good author?
Kierra: You have to learn to control yourself.
Get one idea (please don't be like me! lol, I'm not a good example at all) And then with that story like, write out all the characters with their personalities and physical attributes. Make sure you know each character inside out to avoid confusion. Planning is the key to success, something I never or rarely do. I hate dialogue. Too much ruins the effect of a good story. Description makes the story, dialogue should be used to a minimum. But that's just my opinion. I have read a few stories where there has been lots of description, but it has been rather good.
What of this do you still have to achieve?
Kierra: Stick to one idea, plan and get to know my characters.
What do you consider most important in a good fiction?
Kierra: A good plot line that is strong and real characters that the reader can relate too. Descriptions also need to be vivid.
What is for you the basic difference between an original piece and a fan fiction?
Kierra: In an original piece, I doubt you would write about a celebrity, but then again, what has started out for many of us, which is writing about the person we admire, has become a huge prosperity and some fan fiction writers are definitely publishable.
As a writer, do you have something published?
Kierra: I have 2 poems published but its nothing big, it was a family publisher who has sadly passed away now. My aunt knows of a publisher, so hopefully I will get in touch with him soon.
Tell us about your projects here in the forum, any upcoming fiction?
Kierra: Yes! One I'm very excited about based on the book "A child called it" by Dave Pelzer. I'm writing as Dave (renamed Elijah) and I'm writing also in his mother's pov, because Dave never said why she was like that, so I'm going to fictionally make it up. *lol* It's just a bit of fun really to get back into writing after my break.
I mean no offence to the author with it, and I didn't know whether to write it because it is a real published story that is being tampered with by me, but I think I'll go ahead.
I also have complete satisfaction to continue.
Is there someone you'd like to write with?
Kierra: Many! I'd love to write with Laila (hehe) Mena, Petra, Ursi, Wendy, practically everyone! *lol*
What is your favourite fiction and/or writer here?
Kierra: How many can I pick?
