Eastern promises

Reuters reports that Eastern Promises, a thriller being produced by Focus Features and BBC Films will be the second movie teaming up arthouse director David Cronenberg and Lord of the rings star Viggo Mortensen.

Written by Steven Knight (who also wrote the script for Stephen Frears’ 2002 Dirty Pretty Things), the future to be thriller is focused on the Russian mafia and sex traffic.

The story starts with a young Russian prostitute who dies during childbirth and a nurse is dragged into the underworld of sex trafficking involving the Russian mob. If this sounds familiar you must have seen Knight’s and Frear’s 2002 movie, but with Cronenberg at helm things are more than sure to get a raw end and some nasty twists.

Mortensen will play a mysterious man with ties to the mob (so much like in A History of Violence, don’t you think?). Until the pre-production and the actual shooting start (sometime in the future, the details have not been established yet) audiences will see Viggo Mortensen in Agustín Díaz Yanes’s Alatriste 17th century action movie.

A History of Violence was director David Cronenberg’s most acclaimed movie, both by critics and audiences.

I'm really curious of how this project will turn out to be... I like Cronemberg very much, and I deeply enjoyed A Histoy Of Violence.

This is the cast according to the International Movie Database:

Credited cast:

Viggo Mortensen .... Nickolai

Naomi Watts .... Anna

Vincent Cassel .... Kirill

Armin Mueller-Stahl .... Semyon

Sinéad Cusack .... Helen

Donald Sumpter .... Yuri

...........Naomi Watt's character is called ANNA!! Now I know I'm gonna watch this movie only to hear Viggo calling her.

Oh mon Dieu! VICENT CASSEL! Je l'adore... I do love this guy, if it weren't for Viggo, I think I could go and watch this movie only because of him!

This is good news..... duh!

I loves History of Violence and can't wait for another Cronenberg/Viggo collaboration. Offcourse maybe for the obvious reasons mentioned above.
I haven't seen many Viggo movies but most of what I have seen, I did like. He is always such a constant factor, even if the movie itself isn't something I like, he always stands out. I will defenitly be following this.
