Title: Guy Fawkes Day
Description: my article needs your help! Hehe...

~Jewelz~ - November 16, 2006 06:02 AM (GMT)
Hi all :) I have an article to write for one of my classes, and when trying to think of a topic, I thought to myself- Hmmm, I had never even heard of Guy Fawkes before V4V, and nobody else I know seems to know about it either... maybe I could explain it for us dense Americans who pulled a "WTP?" when Evie started voice-over-babbling about Fawkes.

Hehehe...

Anyway, anything you can tell me about the holiday, its history, what you do to celebrate it etc would be uber helpful. Thanks so much all! *huggles*

Tchao!

Hey!
Guy Fawkes day is an English celebration and we commemorate it with fireworks. It is not a holiday and it is celebrated on November 5th. It has become a tradition since the 17th Century where this man called Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament when King James I was present in there...

I forget the actual story behind it but that is the vague idea of a Brit who has lived in the country since she was born; 20 years ago! lol I'm sure if you Wikipedia it, you'll be sure to get the general jist of what its about ;-) The celebration is the capturing of Fawkes and his being out to death by fire and gunpowder, hence the fireworks.

History has it that they actually started celebrating it 100 years later after it happened, but again, I am not sure about the actual events and the traditional celebrations.

I suggested you Wiki it, but I did that for you: here you are!

I hope my lame attempt at history helped, and also my search!
