Title: Interview with Kit-Kat

Blondie - October 31, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
*cameras pan in on a blonde woman sitting in an overstuffed chair*

Once again welcome back to Interview with the Author! I’m Blondie and I will be your host tonight. *flashes cheesy grin at the camera* We have quite an amazing show for you tonight, if I do say so myself. Tonight I have the honor of interviewing a very ambitious writer. You might recognize her as the author of Potter's Curse or Kathleen Nightly's Diary. Please join me as I welcome Kit-Kat!

*audience cheers wildly*

*camera pans to the right and is met by Kit-Kat's dazzling smile*

Kit-Kat, welcome to the show! Let me start out by thanking you for accepting our invitation for this little get together. It is such a pleasure to have you on the show. I have to admit, I was more than a little bit excited for this interview. I have seen your work posted on EWAC and I must admit that I couldn't wait to get to know you on a more personal level.

*Kit-Kat smiles* Well, thank you Blondie. I, too, share your excitement.

Enough of this mindless chatter. Let's just dive right into the nitty gritty. Question time. How about an easy one to start with? Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Well, I am a crazy, random, yet sweet and kind person. I am like a "Dear Abby" to all of my friends and I love listening to music and watching movies. For those that might not have noticed yet, I am a movie freak! I love reading and I love going to go see plays too. I also am a big dog lover.

I like you already Kit-Kat...a movie freak, loves reading and a dog lover. A girl after my own heart. Add a kitty lover to that mix and I would admit to having a slight crush on you.

*Blondie winks at Kit-Kat in a silly fashion*

Let’s talk writing…when and why did you decide to start writing fanfics? Did you have any sort of experience in writing before your time at EWAC?

I just started writing them one day back during boy band days because I wanted a way to express some things that were going on in my life and others lives at the time. No, I never really had an experience in writing except in school before this.

So tell us, which stories have you written thus far?

My Sisters Big Fat Irish Wedding, Potter's Curse, Kathleen Nightly's Diary, Roadtrip to dreams, Think of me, and many different unfinished ones. Not to mention some short stories. I have also notebooks filled with other stories I've written.

Wow! That is quite the impressive list. Your muse must not sleep, or she is on speed! Just joshing you. Speaking of My Sisters Big Fat Irish Wedding *Blondie holds up a copy to the audience*, I stronly urge each and everyone of you to check this gem out. Kit-Kat has chosen this story to be pinned for the next two weeks. It is quite humorous if I do say so myself. I know that I will be spending the next two weeks catching up on this. Er...I seem to have fallen a bit behind on my reading list. Moving on....

How would you describe your own style of writing?

Much for me with describing things, I like to give my readers as much information about a character or a setting as possible and also kind of like a play or movie script in the movement of the plot.

Ah ha, your love of the theater comes in handy with writing then. Excellent. Do tell, how does your writing make you feel? Really, just how important is it to you?

My writing makes me feel good and I get a good laugh everyday doing it. It is pretty important to me, no reason why but it just is, I like writing for fun, not for a career. I wouldn't be very good doing writing as a career; I am terrible at spelling and punctuation.

*Blondie shakes her head in agreement*

Amen sister, I hear you on the punctuation and spelling. Thank goodness for spell checker is all I can say! Since you stated that writing is pretty important to you, just how big of a place does writing have in your life?

Honestly, a pretty good size space, but not huge.

I have to admit, I envy you just a wee bit. I wish writing could have a bigger space in my own life, but unfortunately for me, science and medical jargon rules my life. But seriously, enough about me, this is about you. Shame on me.

So tell the truth, are you an organized writer?

Heck no!

*the audience roars with laughter*

Alrighty, guess you can't be more honest that that. Let's dig a little further into your style of writing. Tell us, do your characters set where the story is heading, or do you find characters that match the storyline you already have in your head?

More along the lines that the characters match the storyline in my head. I plan out a story first in my head and then start writing it.

Speaking of planning out stories, just where do you get your plethra of story ideas? Do they just come to you or do you have a more complicated way of finding them?

They just come to me or I get inspired by a film, play, or book, even songs inspire me.

Okay, here is a tough question...what different genres, if any, would you like to attempt writing and what would challenge you the most? Aren't I evil? *Blondie snickers*

*without a hesitation Kit-Kat answers* Mystery, I don't know why but I want to give a crack at that. Horror or murder type story because I am not a big fan of films or books like that and that would be a major challenge getting into the plot line for that story.

Wow! You handled that one like a champ. And I thought that was going to a be tough one. I have to agree with you, I think the horror genre would be difficult to write, that might be one of the reasons I idolize Stephen King so much.

Alright, woman to woman...to audience...tell us, what is your idea of the perfect story? What do you dislike reading most in a story? Don't hold back. We want all the dirty details.

My idea of a perfect story is one with a great plot line, interesting or funny characters, a good romance ( I can't resist those), and a story with characters who you can relate to. What I dislike is reading a story with a bland plot line and no character interactions, I've read some like that where none of the characters met or interacted and it seemed so boring. I also dislike a story with no characters who you can relate to; it makes me feel like I can't get into if I can't find something I can relate to.

Again, it is like you are in my mind. I too love a good romance and no matter how much I try to resist, I just can't. *sigh* It is the girly girl in me.

That being said, time for a question of serious nature, what makes you stop writing a story?

Complications or busy in life or loss of muse or interest in my own story.

*Blondie nods her head in agreement*

Busy life, ah yes, I think this is one we can all relate to. So now that you have talked our ear off about your writing, tell us, do you have any other artistic sides other than writing?

I am an actor, not professionally yet, but I hopefully will be and I love to sing and dance and draw sketches and sometimes paint (really badly too).

An aspiring actress, that is wonderful. Best of luck to you. I mentioned before that I idolize and love Stephen King, tell us, what authors do you admire in real life and here on EWAC?

I admire in real life J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, Ann Brashares, and Meg Cabot. On EWAC Ambrosia, Cat, Pat, 4everelijah, Mena, JamieGirl, WhiteAndie... I pretty much admire everyone on here; they are all such great writers and tell such great stories.

You know the saying, "Great minds think alike"? Well in this case it should be great minds share similar taste in authors. A few of the real life authors you mentioned I have read their work and throughly enjoyed it. And you brought up a really excellent point about the EWAC authors. While everyone has favorites here, how can you not, this board is home to many talent writers. AS always I encourage everyone to try reading a story by a writer that you haven't sampled any of their work.

Well, we are nearing our time limit, before we wrap up is there anything you would like to share with us, you think is important/ funny/ handy to know?

Hmmmmmm.... I love the Broadway shows Wicked, RENT, Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Oklahoma!, Sound of Music, and Beauty and the Beast.

It is a good thing we have reached our time limit, for I fear that we could chat for hours on the goodness that is Broadway shows. I love RENT! Anyway, thank you Kit-Kat for taking the time and answering my questions. It was pleasure having you here and it was wonderful getting to know you on a more personal level. Just a reminder, please check out Kit-Kat's story My Sisters Big Fat Irish Wedding and make sure you are ready to laugh your butt off! Thank you and good night!

*audience cheers wildly*

Yet another awesome job Blondie! You never cease to amaze me when you interview authors.

And as for Kat, I love how she admitted she wasn't an organized writer because let's face it, it's hard to be one lol.

Oh my, Interview with the Author with Blondie as the host always makes my day. If this was a true show I would never miss an interview... heck t would be better than Ellen and Leno rolled into one!

Now, it was a pleasure to know more about Kit-kat, both as an author and a person... I'm always interested in knowing the girl behind the writer, because sometimes it helps me to better understand their artistic choices. And reading about the writer yyou are, i gotta say i can relate to many things you said.

Kudos to both of you!
