Author’s Note: The tragedy of September 11th, 2001 is still with me even after 5 years after it has occurred. The story you are about to read is completely and 100% FICTIONAL!!! The main character or myself is no way out to offend anyone who has lost a family member or close friend. Neither are Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and Sean Astin, four famous actors or the former may or of New York City, Rudolph Guiliani. I have not lost someone close to me like this and I give my heart and soul to those who have. From the bottom of my heart, I give my passion and soul to those who do read. Oh yeah you might need a tissue, it is quite sad. I personally don’t know anyone who has lost a family member or friend. RIP to all the victims and I am very thankful to everyone who has and is still currently that are helping out and fighting for our country against the war on Terrorism and in Iraq.

The cell phone ran in the pocket of a man who was now just relaxing after a long flight from New Zealand to his home in Los Angeles, California. He had just gotten finished with the extended scenes that would be on the first Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring DVD.

Elijah Wood glanced down at the Caller ID and smiled big when he read “Katie” on the phone. He flipped open his cell phone and placed it next to his ear.

“Hello my beautiful fiancée.” Elijah greeted as he turned off his headphones and placed them in the empty seat next to him.

Katie Sheridan laughed from her hotel room in Boston, Massachusetts and rolled her eyes.

“Hi my hobbit.” she replied making him groan.

“I’m never going to live that down, am I?”

“No not for a long time honey. How’s your flight?”

“Fine so far, just kind of bored. I can’t wait to see you in LA tomorrow. I miss you so much Katie. Are you sure we can’t move up the wedding?” he asked while teasing her.

“Nice try Lij. I can’t wait to see you either. I’ve missed you a lot. Boston is gorgeous honey, you should come up here sometime.” she remarked.

He laughed.

“You always tell me that everywhere you go. But that is one of the many reasons why I love you so much. I promise you once after I get some rest and you get some vacation time, we’ll go back to Boston.”

“I’ll remember that Mr. Wood. Well I better get packed” Katie said sadly not wanting to get off the phone.

Elijah frowned as well as he glanced at his watch and then did the quick math in his head. It was past 11 that night in Boston.

“Okay honey I love you so much Katie. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow” he said and she smiled on the other end of the phone.

“I can’t wait to see you too either Lij. I love you too. Remember my flight is 175 from United Airlines okay?”

Lij nodded as he recited the number of the flight in his head.

“Okay Katie, bye sweetheart.” he said softly.

“Bye Lij.” she replied as they both hung up the phone at the same time.

Elijah rested his head on the back of his seat and closed his eyes after glancing one last time at his watch. It was September 10th. Little did he know of the events of the next day, would forever change his life.

September 11th 2001

Katie had boarded the plane that would take her from Boston to LA a few minutes ago. Ever since she had set foot in that plane, she had felt uncomfortable. She tried to relax in her seat, for soon she would be with her fiancée, the love of her life Elijah. He was already a huge star, but would be a bigger one when Fellowship came out in December. She could remember how nervous and excited he was when learned of the news that he would be playing Frodo Baggins, the main character, the ring bearer.

She smiled as she thought of Elijah as she sat back in her seat. Nothing was going to happen, so she was so confident about.

“Would you like a drink or something to eat miss?” a cheerful voice asked beside her and Katie turned to find herself face to face with a flight attendant.

“No thank you.” she replied politely as she turned back to the television that was in front of her.

“Sir please sit down.” the same flight attendant turned to a man who looked like he was from the Middle East. Katie turned her head to quick, because the same flight attendant she had just talked to, had just been stabbed by this man. She gave one little squeak before falling down in the middle of the aisle. Gasps of horror were heard all around the plane.

Several other men rose up from their seats and went up to the front yelling in their native tongue. Soon fear began to full Katie’s mind. Would she get out of this alive?

Elijah sat in the house he and Katie shared in Los Angeles watching the television while cooking breakfast for his two closest friends from the movie sat in the living room waiting patiently.

Dom Monaghan and Billy Boyd were quite a pair of friends. But they could find humor in any situation. Elijah was lucky to have met them period.

“Um Lij, you better get in here.” Dom said loudly while also shaking.

“Why?” Elijah asked curiously as he glanced back into the living room.

“A hijacked plane just flew into the World Trade Center…and it was from Boston.” Dom replied fearing for the worst.

“WHAT?!?!” Elijah screamed as he dropped the bowl of yogurt on the floor hearing it smash into pieces on the floor as he ran into the living room in shock and in horror.

He watched on the television screen the flames burst through the first tower. His face turned into horror as he prayed it wasn’t the flight that Katie was on. His hands flew over his mouth as he gasped. Dom and Billy sat on the couch beside him, huddled together, trying to be there for their friend. They knew how much Katie and Elijah loved one another, anyone could see it. They weren’t sure how Elijah was going to be after this whole thing, if Katie didn’t make it out alive.

“Breaking News from New York, the flight was American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles that was hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Residents of the area are being asked to evacuate the area until further notice.” Katie Couric announced.

All three men let out their breaths of air and started to relax more on the couch. Elijah made the mistake of glancing back at the television. In the background was a second plane.

Katie Couric came back on the television screen with a scared look on her professional face.

“We have just been notified that there has been a second plane from Boston also being hijacked. Witnesses say it was Flight 175 from Boston to Los Angeles. We’ll let you know as soon as we receive the information.” she announced.

“Was that…?” Billy asked softly and there was silence.

“Holy shit what is going on here?” Katie asked softly as she saw the men with knives stabbing whoever resisted. The plane was being hijacked!

Before she could blink, one of the men grabbed her by the shirt and threw her to the middle of the plane where people were calling their loved ones knowing this would be the last time they all would talk.

Katie grabbed her cell phone and quickly dialed in the number to her and Elijah’s house. Waiting for an answer, she prayed quietly to herself.

“KATIE!” Elijah’s voice rang out in her ear.

“LIJ!” she screamed while fighting back tears.

“Oh my fucking God Katie! What flight are you on?” Elijah yelled into the plane knowing tears were running down his face.

“I’m on Flight 175, Lij they’re hijacking us! Oh my God Elijah help me! Lij I love you so much!” Katie screamed and at this time she had begun crying.

“Oh dear God! Katie I love you too! Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me! I need you!” Elijah started exclaiming over and over into the phone as he let the tears flow and he began crying, not caring anymore.

“I’ll never leave you my hobbit, no matter where I am. I love you so much Elijah Jordan Wood. Never forget me okay?” she asked.

“I’ll never forget you Katie, you’re the only love of my life. I’m going to die without you! Don’t leave Katie! I love…love you so much. Please don’t leave me. I swear I’ll do anything, just don’t leave me!” Elijah wailed into the phone making her cry harder.

“Elijah listen to me. I love you more than life itself. When I die, I want you to move on and continue with your career. Tell Dom, Billy, Sean, Orlando, Hannah, your family and my family that I love you! Will you also please call my family? I love you Elijah Jordan Wood and I always will. I’ll save you a place in heaven…” the phone started getting full of static and Katie slowly pulled it away from her ear as she leaned against a seat for balance. She still could hear Elijah’s screaming, crying voice in the phone.

“No Katie! Don’t say that! You’re not going to die! Please Katie, I love you!,” Elijah’s voice was stopped by the crashing of the cell phone on the airplane floor.

Katie glanced up at the front of the airplane as the South Tower of the World Trade Center was coming closer and closer every second. Her eyes slowly closed as the plane crashed into the tower.

Elijah slowly turned his head towards the television where he saw the second plane that held his fiancee inside crash and explode on the top of the South Tower. He stared at the phone knowing that was the last time he would ever talked to Katie. He threw it against the wall falling to his knees, crying his heart out for the love of his life, which he had just lost.

Dom and Billy held the younger man as he sat on the floor of the house he shared with her crying his eyes out. Dom wiped away tears and also hugged Billy, who was also crying. Anger consumed them all at the moment, but they shook it off for right now and hugged Elijah.

The door burst open and there stood Sean Astin.

“Don’t tell me its true…is Katie…?” Sean asked quietly and Dom looked up with sorrowful eyes.

Sean let the tears fall down his face as he grabbed Elijah and held him in his arms as everyone cried. Cried for the young woman whom they all had admired and loved. But now she was gone and there was nothing they could do.


September 11th 2006….Ground Zero

For the first time since Katie’s death, Dom, Billy, Orlando Bloom and Sean, along with the Wood and Sheridan families were at Elijah’s side as Elijah stepped onto the ladder that would let him over look the damage from the September 11th attacks. He fought back tears as helped onto the ladder tightly surveying the damage. He held tightly in his arms, a picture of him and Katie, just two weeks before the attacks and an American flag. Ever since her death, Lij had spent more time with family and friends. Katie made him realize that God has a plan for everyone and you never know what could happen. People take life for granted. Also on that same day, a plane had crashed into the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. ‘This’ he told everyone ‘was the most hardest day of his life’

He glanced at everyone as he stepped forward to the microphone to read Katie's name. All of the families were allowed to say the victim's name and he wanted to do it.

He sighed and leaned towards the microphone, "Kathryn Marie Sheridan," He glanced towards his friends and family and fought back tears. The former mayor of New York, Rudolph Giuliani stepped back from the microphone and glanced at Elijah, who nodded.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am privileged to be standing up here since my last day in office. I am also here to introduce you to one of the bravest men that I have ever met. His name is Elijah Wood. You all may know him as Frodo in Lord of the Rings and as an actor. But today he isn’t Elijah the actor, he is Elijah the human being. I am proud to introduce you all to a very courageous person. Ladies and gentlemen, Elijah Wood.” Rudolph announced.

Elijah smiled slightly as he shook the former mayor’s hand and glanced at the photographers. He glanced back to his cast mates and family and they gave him warm smiles.

“Ladies and gentlemen of America. Five years ago was the tragedy of September 11th, 2001. Five years ago I lost my fiancée who was in the second place that was hijacked. Kathryn Marie Sheridan was my world. I love her so much even though she is not here today. If you had ever had the chance to meet her, you would have known that she was very funny and full of life. She never took life for granted, like a lot of people do. Her smile lit up the entire room whenever she walked into one. She was on her way to LA from Boston to see me on the day of this tragedy. The estimate amount of people whom families and friends have lost, I could not tell you. More people are still missing. Over 300 of them are firefighters, police officers and release workers. The cast and crew of Lord of the Rings, including the Sheridan family have started the Katie Sheridan foundation that will give money to help doctors find cures for different cancers since Katie was a nurse and was passionate about her work. Also money will be given to the September 11th fund. Donations are being accepted for both funds and also money will be given to families of the soldiers who are now fighting the war on Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq. No matter how much they destroy our cities, I just want to let the Terrorists and Osama bin Laden know that you will NEVER destroy our spirits and you will never win. He glanced up at the sky and blew it a kiss. As he stood there surrounded by family and friends, he knew in his heart that Katie would always be there with him. Even thought she wasn’t there physically. He would never forget her and took her advice. He moved on.

Elijah looked at the remains of the World Trade Center and took a step forwards in his life. His future. His future without Katie.

:cry: :cry2: That was so sad, yet so touching Katie. Brilliant job on the writing and you had me crying. At first when I saw you post this on 9-11, I was a little leary at reading it since I was afraid of what it would contain, but I am so glad I did read it. It was emotional and touching and brilliantly written. I am glad I took the time ans read it and I want to say how brave you are to write a story like this on a matter that is still very close to everyone's hearts. :bow: Great job.
