Siren

Billy's POV

I’m falling deeper and deeper as frigid cold water wraps around my body like a sheet of ice. Darkness clouds my vision as I stare up, desperately trying to focus on the hazy shards of light that pierce the surface of the ocean. My fingers grasp through the murky water, trying to fight my way upward and grant my lungs the oxygen they so desperately need.

I’m dying, I’m drowning. I will never escape these liquid chains that have clapped around my ankles and wrists, weighing me down and forcing my body to sink like a rock. Thoughts fly through my mind as I fight the urge to instinctively gasp for air, knowing it will only bring thick, salty water into my lungs. I remember the feel of sun on my skin, the sensation of pulling oxygen through my lips…the way dry ground felt beneath my feet. I’ll never have any of that again.

My eyes drift shut as I feel an arctic touch around my wrist. Thinking it can only be a hallucination of my near dead mind, I try and focus through the murk, only to realize I am no longer sinking. In fact, I feel my body climbing through the water, though the motions of my feet and arms were long ago stopped. The grip on my arm tightens, as I understand there is someone there pulling me forward and away from a watery grave.

As my unknown rescuer and I continue our journey towards the surface of the ocean, the light grows stronger and I can make out a vague shape and silhouette. A curtain of red, thick hair moves and jostles in the water, billowing out around the face of a pale-skinned creature. She keeps her features turned from me as she swims furiously upwards, her fingers biting into my flesh. How is it there is a woman in this water?

Looking up, I see that the surface is still so far away. I have been drowning forever, I might not make it…I can only hold this breath for so long. Tugging frantically on the woman’s cold arm, I force her to look in my direction just as my vision starts to darken and fade away. Through the gloom, I know she is leaning forward, pressing her full lips against mine. Air shoots into my lungs with the sweetest thrill, making the tight pain in my chest lessen and the pounding pressure around my temples melt away. I can focus now, and I see her eyes are black pools of shade, as dark as the night sky or the depths of the ocean.

We break from the water and I gasp, my body floundering as I greedily suck in as much oxygen as I possibly can. I see the boat in the distance; I wave my hand as frantically so I can catch their attention, desperate to escape the water that nearly sealed my doom. When a rope is thrown out to me, I turn to fasten it to the mysterious woman and myself.

She pulls away, though, her eyes flickering and the pupils becoming long slits. With a dive back into the water, a large tail fin slaps a salty spray across my cheeks and my mouth drops.

What was that?

“Bills, Jesus, are you daydreaming again?” a gruff and wry voice hollers out as I hurry to straighten up and grip the side of the boat against the lurch of a wave. Quickly, I focus my eyes on my captain and friend, Viggo. His face shows his annoyance quite clearly, though his hands are busy tugging at the net lines of the boat. We are trolling the ocean for shrimp right now, and as every time I get out on the water, my mind wanders to the horrible incident of six months previous.

“Gotta stop thinking about it,” Viggo states, as though reading my mind, “It does no good to linger. You didn’t drown, you’re alright and you don’t need to worry over it.”
“But, what about her?” I protest stupidly, turning and shielding my eyes from the bright sunlight that beats down from overhead.

Viggo pauses, his knees bending as he expertly moves with the boat along with the motions of the waves, “You need to stop talking about that. People are starting to think you’re losing it a bit. Come on, Billy, we both know there was no woman out there in the ocean.”

“I don’t care what the others think,” I call out rebelliously, “There was someone out there, she saved my life! I may not know what she was but…”
“Mermaids don’t exist, Boyd,” Viggo mutters strangely, as his eyes glaze over with an odd light, “And, if you don’t want to end up in a psych ward, you should shut it right now.”

He glances meaningfully at the rest of the crew; all of who appear to be busy in their work but whom we both know are fiercely listening. Abruptly, I turn my back on them all and stare out over the horizon, taking in the ripples of dark blue, the way our little boat bops over the great mystery that is the sea. A dolphin jumps in the air, his tail splashing hard against the water when he lands.

“Billy,” Viggo steps beside me, clamping his hand down hard on my shoulder, “I think a distraction would be a good way to get you out of this moody funk. My wife’s cousin is coming over to visit…why don’t you stop by for dinner tonight? I’m sure she is your type.”

I nod my head in a distracted manner. Dinner with real, live people sounds like a good break from my previous activities. I have been combing the beach nightly ever since I recovered from my near drowning, searching for a clue, trying to discover a reason why I feel the way I do.

I wonder where she is, what’s she is doing…I know she is out there.

**********************
Hours later, I find myself standing on Viggo’s weak and rotting porch. The salt air always plays a number on the wood and he is just too busy of a man to worry over fixing it. As I shift my weight between my feet, the boards creak aloud in protest, demanding me to give them relief.
Luckily, the door to the house flies open and I come face to face with Viggo’s smiling wife, Amaryllis. Her warm gray eyes flick over me, as I am quickly granted a welcoming hug. Her expression is slightly worried as she studies me, no doubt she has heard all about my ramblings from Viggo. I don’t care, I know I am right.

“How are you, Billy?” Amaryllis questions kindly, her red hair resting softly on her shoulders. It is the same color as the woman in the water, and it takes me back immediately, reminds me of the way her tresses wrapped about my face and clouded my sight.

“Bill?” Amaryllis asks again, her face twisted in a sad smile.
I shake off the vision and answer, “I’m fine. Thanks for inviting me tonight…it is nice to get out of the house for something other than work.”

Amaryllis grins before nodding her head towards the back door, “My cousin is just outside. She has been waiting to meet you…why don’t you go fetch her? I’m sure she’s walking on the beach, she just loves the ocean.”

Feeling uneasy about such an obvious set-up, I reluctantly stomp outside and beneath the moonlight. I am not necessarily up to a date tonight, so hopefully this girl won’t be too silly or flirtatious. With my hands shoved inside my pockets, I meander forward until I spot a figure walking along the beach, her white dress billowing about her form and dancing in the wind like a ghost writhing in the air.

Staggering towards her as though there was a magnet pulling me forth, I feel my heart rate increase by a will of its own. As her clothes dance and shift with the gusts, I notice she has crimson locks that spill over her features, blocking her eyes and mouth from my sight. Pausing in front of her, I feel as though I have the strongest case of déjà vu there ever was.

“Who are you?” I stutter out, though I understand how stupid the question sounds. This is Amaryllis’s cousin, this is the girl I was sent out here to seek. And yet, she is so familiar beyond all that…

She smiles beneath the moonlight, the wind blowing her hair away to reveal features that are burned into my memory. Her eyes are the same black orbs, swirling with mirth and delight upon seeing me. Cherry lips curl into a lascivious smile as she takes a step forward and brushes her cold fingers against my face.

“Your skin is so warm,” the woman purrs, leaning in to rub her face against my own as though she were, indeed, a cat. My body remains frozen as I know my eyes must be about to bug out of my head, “What are you doing here? How did you get out of the water? Are you alright…I didn’t mean to leave you behind out there!”

The woman laughs, the sound high-pitched and oddly like a seagull that cackles overhead. Her black eyes swirl with some unidentifiable emotion as she runs her fingers through my hair, causing my head to fall back into her waiting palm. She is the most beautiful and desirable creature I have ever seen.

“Don’t worry about me, dearest,” she whispers into my ear, “I always take care of myself.”

Awkwardly, I feel like I should thank her for saving my life, but my body seems sluggish and stupid, my thoughts are slow and I can only focus on her exquisite features and milky smooth complexion. When her lips meet mine, I gasp in surprise though I do not move away. As she sucks on my bottom lip, I gently smooth my tongue along her own, surprised at how warm her mouth is as compared to the rest of her body.

“Come on now,” the redheaded siren whispers, pulling me forward towards the ocean and away from the vision line of the house. The dinner party long ago forgotten, I follow the girl as though my life depended on it, allowing her to lead me to a spot just beyond the reach of the crashing waves.

She pulls me down with her onto the sand, as she kneels and leans over me, grinning as the wind blows her hair about. Taking my face in both her hands, she kisses me again smoothly, her tongue roaming and clashing against my own as she curves her perfect body up to my chest. I can feel her breasts pushed against my form, as I moan loudly into her mouth.

With a giggle that sounds like a musical note, she pushes my body down all the way against the sand, fingers nimble at undoing the buttons on my shirt and then casting it away. The ground is grainy and dirty against my skin, though at the same time warm and alive, the sound of the waves crashing angrily in the distance just dropping me further into the hazy spell I am under.

“Such a beautiful man,” the woman murmurs, putting such stress on the last word as she smiles wickedly. Her head dips down and I feel her lips moving over my chest, nipples, and stomach. Nails bite into the skin at my sides as I squirm on the sand, unable to keep myself from tangling my fingers in her dark, red hair. I groan gratefully when I feel how hot her tresses are, almost like the sun were beating down on them and rays had been absorbed into the fiery glory. When the locks fall and dance against my stomach, I feel my eyes drop shut in ecstasy.

Her fingers are deft as they undo the button of my pants, pulling them down and getting rid of my shoes and socks all at the same time. I feel the cold water of the ocean biting at my feet, as the waves creep up higher to reach us. I don’t say a word of protest because at this point she has taken me in her hand and is stroking me up and down at the slowest, most teasing pace. Impatiently, I reach for her, grabbing her body to jerk it down over my own. In a frustrated fashion, I realize she is still fully clothed, so I spin our bodies to pin her against the sand with my own.

Hurriedly, I undo the clasps of her dress, pulling the white flimsy material away, realizing that it catches in the wind and floats. Her body is pale perfection, not a hint of a scar or mark to mar it. The red locks fall forward automatically to cover her breasts, my clumsy fingers pushing it away so I can view her beauty.

Reverently, I dip my head to worship her skin. My tongue licks a path between the valley of her breasts before moving to lap and flick against one of her nipples. The woman’s body moves restlessly against my own, the squirms only further igniting my own passion. I let my rough fingers roam all over her smoothness, enjoying the way my calluses challenge her silkiness.

She moans when I hitch up her leg, running my fingers up and down the perfect line of her thigh. Her white skin colors to a feverish range, as I realize that me barely touching her legs is causing her to grow wild with passion. Abandoning her breasts for the time being, I fall lower to lick along her calf, brushing across her knee to then gently bite and flick my tongue over her inner thigh. She’s nearly screaming at this point, as she latches onto my shoulders and hauls me up, gracing me with the wettest, warmest kiss I’ve ever had.

Roughly, I join our bodies, falling into her heat and nearly burning from it. She writhes beneath me as I push myself in and out of her, the waves of the ocean creeping up to splash all over our forms. Neither of us can stop as the water foams around us, the sand growing wet and damp as our bodies do the same.

She thrashes her head against the sand, the red tresses growing dirty and floating on the layer of water that pools about her head. Hands reach out to grip my face as she opens those eyes, the midnight black color accentuating the fact that her pupils have once again turned to an unnatural shape. A chill of ecstasy and fear runs down my side as I moan aloud, reaching my pinnacle just as I feel her crashing around me. When she pulls me in for a breathless kiss, I don’t object, letting it go on and on until I feel like I’m losing a part of myself inside her.

Long moments later, she disentangles herself from my body, creeping forward to splash in the ocean and rinse all the sand and dirt from her perfect form. Slowly, I follow her, though my legs feel heavy and stiff, as though they don’t want to work at all. The instant they are completely submerged in the water, they feel a bit better, as I swim out towards her in the distance.

“We’re even now,” her words greet my ears as we float in the ocean together.
“What do you mean?” I question slowly, feeling my body skim through the water and closer to her own.

“I saved your life,” she turns to me, her eyes burning in the darkness, “Now, you’ve saved mine. Did you really think I pulled you out the ocean for nothing?”

A strange sensation runs over me, as my body temperature seems to drop to an all new low. There is something creepy lingering in her eyes and my brain is finally clear enough to see the triumphant smile upon her lips.

“We had a nice trade,” she murmurs, “I think legs for a fin is quite fair.”
“What are you talking about?” I stutter stupidly, my brain moving slow and being overwhelmed by the sounds and smells of the ocean.
“For all the fish you catch, this time a fish caught you,” she giggles eerily, “You just gave me everything I needed, did you really think I was just kissing you? Did you really think I was just Amaryllis’s cousin? Did you actually believe that she and Viggo are normal people?”

“Who are you?” I question for the second time of the night, this instance my voice breaking in fear.
“I was a mermaid,” she whispers, her voice so frozen I’m surprised the air doesn’t crystallize, “But, you know the old legend…once every five hundred years every mermaid gets to be human for a night. It’s sort of like a slap in the face to show us what we’re missing.”
“And, that’s tonight for you,” I murmur like a fool, floundering in the water.

“I’ve been waiting a long time to find you,” she twirls her fingers over the surface of the water, “I knew when I saw you sinking in the ocean that you would be perfect!”
“For what?” I question fearfully, refusing to believe her words, not understanding what she is getting at.

But, my siren smiles at me, her lips curling back to reveal the whitest, straightest teeth imaginable. Her eyes sparkle beneath the moonlight, their pupils round and reactive as she reaches out to drag her wet and heavy fingers over my skin.

“For a life swap, lover,” she sighs sweetly, “You just gave yourself to me completely, in every possible way.”

Horrified, I watch her swim away, standing when she reaches shore and walking along the beach, her nude body practically glowing in the darkness. As fear pumps through my veins, I want to follow her; I yearn to leave the water and escape.

But it is my prison, just as it was when I was sinking in the cold murk so many months before. My legs are covered in scales and merging together, a fin taking place as I am struck with the terror of the situation. She took more than my body tonight…she took my humanity.

What have I become?

GUH!!!!
What on Earth could have given you the idea to write that? It was so sad, helpless, hot, sexy, mean, ruthless, evil....

AMAZING!!!!

First off, reading about Billy Boyd having sex was one of the greatest things I've ever read. It made me all giddy, especially since I just saw Claire kiss Charlie on Lost!

And, as for that mermaid, you stupid little fish!
:bat

I can't believe I was actually the first to post on this! Huzzah!

That may not be it, but I can't be bothered to sift through the story again for a cool word.

Anyway, DUUUUUUUDDDDDDEEEEEE!!!!! You are the queen of all things queen-able, I tell you! Jeez. I can't believe this. It was so sexy and sultry and sensual and grabbing (hello! BB sex??? :yum: ) and then BAM!

Men are helpless once they come across a pair of spread legs. <_<

But she's so... so... evil. And awesome!

Right after my new word, was the most amazing description, and it couldn't have been more Am:

Dear Hecate!!

I am more than speechless. I am STUNNED!!

Okay, you know it, I am biased, I have a penchant for mermaids, and for angst... but I seriously think this is the best shortie I ever read from you.

I wasn't expecting no one but Bill in, and instead, there were two more other characters! I jumped slightly when I read the disclaimer, and then, it just went better and better.

Oh, it was so perfect in every detail of it: super descriptions and a true, tangled plot with a twist in the end and an awesome idea to prop it up.

Gosh, I can just bow down to your glory.

I swear i frowned. He was too shifty for his own good!

I noticed that, I tell you. And wanna know the ultimate destiny? Right now I am wearing the white T-shirt you sent me, the one saying Red Haired Siren!

Girlsss! You wicked, naughty girls, spoiling me so! I can't believe ya'll liked it this much! I totally thought it was just a sort of whatever shortie that I just felt like posting for the heck of it. And, yeah, I know it is weird so I was wondering how people would feel about it. I am so glad ya'll liked it and I must give hugs for all the kind words! You just made me squeal so loud!

boehaha! I went deep sea fishing with my dad last weekend and as we were out, over twenty miles away from the shore, we ended up seeing sharks, porpoises, and a few unidentified fish jumping out of the water. When we were taking the forty-five minute drive back to shore, I let my mind wander and sorta drifted on mermaids...then evil mermaids...then Billy smut, and bam, the rest is history! ;-) Thanks so much for replying! Huzzah!

Wonderful descriptions as usual Am.
I wouldn't have excpected anything else.
I love the foreshadowing atmosphere, all the signs are there but he is so keen on ignoring it unconsiously that he is to late to stop it.
Just like life really.

Love, Moon
