Title: Democracy
Description: How much power do we actually have....

Hey people,

I am a bit curious.
Everywhere you look and no matter what county, people are upset on how there countries are being runned..
My question to you is:
Are you happy with the politics in yout country and please do tell if you are not and say what is actually bothering you.

For me, I think our county is mismanaged.
Our government has the tiny little problem that most of the measures they take to upgrade the economy has serious effect on the people with the lower incomes.
The gap with between the "rich and poor" is slowly growing larger and larger.

I do hope the topic is not to boring, but around me I often hear people complain and yet they don't take the effort to vote so that they can help make a difference.
So I would love to hear what you think.
Do we as a public need more influance in the actions of the government??

I don't know much about the complicated workings of government and politics, so bear with me. =)

We just recently had a national election in my country and I voted. This was the second time I voted in a federal election. Most of my friends voted as well, however some of the younger people I know (18/19/20) chose not to vote. For me I can't imagine not voting since it wasn't that long ago that women weren't able to vote. The election turned out how I had predicted it would, but not necessarily the way I would have wanted. It was a hard choice. The party that went out of power had been running things for the last decade and had some very corrupt members who stole alot of public money. But the opposing party (who ended up in power) is one that I don't think I'll ever vote for. I do think that every party has corrupt members though. You just can't help it, especially when that party comes into power. Now we have a minority government again (the previous election ended in a minority government, but for the other party), which is always an unstable entity. Some people, some of my friends included, think it would have been better to just have a majority government of any type so that things actually get accomplished.

I generally agree with the values of my country, though of course some things aggravate me at times. I have been living with a roommate from another country this year - she's great, but it is true that our 'ideals' about what a government should do for its people are somewhat different. We'll see - with a relatively new government time will tell. Sorry if that didn't make any sense.

Ramona - what country are you from?

I am actually from holland.
I loved to hear your opinion about voting since it is actually the same as mine.
Women had to fight so hard to be able to vote and now so many people take this for granted and do not vote.
I also agree on every party having corrupt members.
Just like you I am not an expert on how governments work and I know it is impossible as a government to please everybody but a lot of country pass their people by so easily.

Hi there.

I'm from Denmark, and I don't like our government ether, but we don't really have any parties that I like... The problem is (I think) that the politicians are more interested in votes than the future of the country. For example in Denmark some yearsago we had too many old workers, they were taking up all the jobs, so the young people found it hard to find jobs. The government introduced a form of early retirement, where people could get money if they retired early... That was all good. But now we've got more old people than before, and this early retirement is costing us heaps of money. Still the government won't get rid of it, because they would lose votes. Instead they cut down on money for people under education (and we can't vote) and publick transportation... I am so annoyed...

That felt good... ^_^
