Title: Runaway Bride

JIM - March 21, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
It's me, JIM. and I'm back with another Orlando story. I just started writing it this weekend, but hopefully I'll continue. For any of you who are wondering, I am still working on the other Orlando story I started, but I'm having major issues with my old computer at the moment, and still trying to get them figured out!

so anyway, here is the new story, let me start with my disclaimer.

I don't know Orlando Bloom, and I do not claim to know his personality. This story is all written from my own imaginies, as is each characters personality. All other characters are my own creating, and this story is, as of the moment, rated PG13. If this changes, I'll let you all know! So here goes! Enjoy!

Cheers

Chapter 1: Adele’s POV

Right now, I want to be anywhere but here. My life… I can’t say it’s been bad. In fact, it’s been bloody brilliant, but it hasn’t been what I wanted it to be. What has it been then, you might be asking? What everybody else wanted it to be…

My dad is a rich business man. Owner of one of the largest hotel chains in the United Kingdom, as well as co-owner of the most successful night club in London. That’s right. I’m a Londoner. My mother, now she’s another story. A lady of the house she is, always spending my father’s money on new furnishings or conversational art pieces, throwing parties to keep her in the right social circles. Of course my father did his fair share of that as well. Just not at home.

And me? I… am a runner…

I’ve spent my entire life running. It’s true. Whenever my parents would force me into something I didn’t want to do, I would run, in some form or another, but unfortunately, even with all my practice, I’ve never been quite good enough to win a race. In fact, I’m actually quite hopeless at it.

And now, despite all my training, my grooming for this very moment in time, I’m holding in my hot little hands, a beautiful bouquet of flowers. It was the most magnificent arrangement I’ve seen in my life. No doubt this bouquet alone was worth a few hundred pounds and I was walking down a long, red velvet aisle, to meet the most wonderful man in the world (or so my mother says), my future husband, Greg… Greg... I don’t want to marry a man named Greg! And all I could think of, was how much I wanted to turn around and walk the other way. To run, again, before it was too late!

Cameras were flashing as people stood for my entrance. The cloth of pure white which adorned me was exquisite, and my mother, as she turned to see me, was crying. Yes, that’s right mother. Cry! Cry because I’m about to marry the man you love, but could never marry yourself because you got hitched to father! Yes, that’s right. I know all about your dirty little secrets. You and Greg…So why am I here?? I stop in my tracks. Why am I here?? My own mother had set me up with this man, 16 years my senior, my father’s business partner, who she believed was my perfect suitor. Of course, he was a nice enough man, and we enjoyed each others company, when he was around… Which was never… I’m about to marry an acquaintance!? An acquaintance who I had just discovered in the past weeks was far better acquainted with my mother! So why am I still here? Is there no better for me? Of course there is!

The beautiful bouquet tumbled to the ground as I picked up the yards of satin and lace that hung around my legs, I turned and I ran. Back up the aisle and out of the church, tearing off my veil. This time I was running for the gold. I continued my race down the street, kicking off my delicate heels. I don’t need to be any taller anyway! My husband should love me and my 5 foot and 3 inches without having to add three inch heels! I stopped the first cab I saw by running in front of it, stopping all the other traffic around me as well, only just managing not to get myself run over in the process. I jumped into the cab quickly, laughter coming from my lips as tears came from my eyes. I finally did it! For the first time in my life, I ran the race and made it to the finish line first! My mother and father weren’t there to greet me with more expectations.

“Driver, back to my hotel, please.” I jumped in surprise as the gentle but deep voice flooded my ear drums. Maybe my parents weren’t at the finish line this time, but there was someone else. A stranger…

I fixed my gaze on him, mobile phone to his ear, already speaking to whoever had answered on the other end. “Kate, love! Yes, it’s me… Look, I’m sorry for the short notice dooky, but I can’t make lunch today. Something’s… come up…” A beautiful stranger…

I tried my best not to let myself get lost in his eyes. His deep brown swirling pools of chocolate… “Well, it’s not every day a bride jumps into my cab, love.” He flipped his phone shut with a charming chuckle, gentle and friendly, just like his eyes and his smile. I’d died and gone to heaven. And I had no intention ever to return to the hell hole I’d come from.

“Yes…” It was all I could think to say at the time, and another of his chuckles rumbled through the interior of the cab as it turned into the highway, picking up speed as its driver took his paying passenger back home.

“I’m Orlando. It’s a pleasure to meet you, love.” He stuck out his hand to me with a friendly, warm smile. And I sat there. He took my hand, putting it in his own, and shook, laughing lightly. “Is there anything you’d like to talk about love?” He left the question hanging for a moment, then continued with I made no reply. “Say, the reason you’re now here in my cab instead of at the alter maybe?” He prompted wearily.

“I’m Adele.” I put my hand out in front of me, beaming, as if the earlier hand shake had never happened, but he just laughed and shook it without question. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Adele.” He chuckled lightly. Adele… It sounded so strange. It wasn’t my name, yet it was the name I had always wanted. And for the first time in my life, I had what I wanted. I was free. And I was going to keep it that way. “The pleasure i…” I cut myself off. That’s what I’d been taught to say. Not what I wanted to say. “It’s wicked to meet you Orlando.” I chimed, coming back to my senses finally.

I pulled on my safety belt and began to fidget with my dress shyly, looking down at my lap, then I looked back over at him. “How far is your hotel? I’d really like to get out of this dress…” “But it’s such a pretty dress love.” He chuckled softly, hoping to make me feel more at ease. “Oh, I know, but white’s really not my colour… I much prefer a pale green.” I laughed with a smile and he joined me. “The hotel’s only a few minutes away, love. You can borrow some of my girlfriend’s clothes for a bit. ‘Til we get you something of your own, yeah?” I smiled gratefully at his offer, but remained silent, sitting back in my seat and waiting for the ride to come to an end.

Aw, this was such a funny, quirky beginning! I think she definitely did the right thing in running away, especially if her mother was fooling around with the groom-to-be! <_< Now, maybe she can start doing things her own way.

Excellent start!

Thanks a bunch for the comments Ambrosia! I'm glad you liked it! *hugs* I'll hopefully have more up soon!

Ah! I can't believe I almost passed this fic up (because I've already got so many to write)- I'm so glad I didn't!

Yay for her, and for getting out of that crazy situation! How ridiculous of her mother to set her up with some guy she was shagging far too close to! Yuck! *shudders at the thought*

Interesting bit of luck that she jumped into a cab that happened to have a handsome curly-haired Brit in it. Too bad about that girlfriend (*slaps hand over mouth* How can I say such a thing! Eep!), though I suppose it should make for some angsty fun, hehe...

I like your writing style, esp the going back and forth between her surroundings and her thoughts- Ah! I just love that sort of thing :)

Great start, I'd love to see where you're going with this. Till later then, Tchao!

*skips off*

Chapter 2: Orlando’s POV

You know those people you meet that you’ll just never forget? Not famous people, or people you get to know really well, but the kind of person you run into by chance, at some random party or maybe in a que for movie tickets. Someone you’ll never expect to spend more than a few minutes or a few hours with, but in that short time, they just make such a huge impact on you that you’ll always remember them?

Well I just met one, and it happened in the strangest way…

I’d been back in the country for a day. I was in London for some promotional work for my latest film, The Two Towers, in a cab on my way into the centre of the city to meet my girlfriend, Kate, for lunch, when suddenly my driver slammed on the breaks and I went flying into the back of the seat in front of me. He was trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian… In a bridal gown…

She looked flustered and rather stressed, and the next thing I knew, she was in the cab. Crying and laughing. I didn’t know what to think. She was a bit of an oddity I have to admit, but something obviously took my fancy, though I can’t for the life of me work out what. I’m not sure she knew who I was, but she was nice enough, and very beautiful in that wedding gown of hers. Very, very, beautiful.

I don’t know what possessed me, but I was pulling out my mobile and calling Kate before I knew it, telling her something had come up and I wouldn’t be able to make lunch. It was the perfect excuse really. I was there for work, so of course I would be busy. She already knew that and expected things like this would happen.

Adele… That’s what she said her name was… Adele… I smile now every time I think of that name. I never did find out why or how she had ended up in my cab. I did try to ask, but when she seemed to ignore the question, I wasn’t going to push it. Not from a stranger.

She had the most beautiful unique eyes though… Sure, Kate’s were unique. They were different colours, but that’s just a little weird. These eyes… they weren’t weird. They were exquisite. A ring of mottled blue around the pupil, jagged edges that made them resemble exploding stars, with a thin outline of grey around the cluster, encircled by a ring of hazelnut, seeping into a deep chocolate brown, speckled with flecks of green. I’d never seen eyes like them in my life.

“Thirty pounds please.” I jumped out of my thoughts. We were here. My hotel. I felt as though the ride had only just started and already it had ended. I paid the driver quickly and getting out, I went round to Adele’s side of the car, helping her out with her dress. She seemed to be having a little trouble with it.

“Well, here we are love.” I smiled up towards the hotel we now stood in front of, noting her hand slipped out of mine now she was out of the cab, and the driver sped off quickly. “Ladies first.” I smiled as the door man opened the door for us. She lifted the skirt of her dress to walk. I noticed her feet were bare. Bare foot wedding? Behind her, I raised my eyebrow curiously, watching as she gracefully ascended the staircase, seemingly gliding, and entered the lobby smiling thankfully to the door man as she called him by name.

She was a natural. The way she moved, the way she spoke. She took to the environment as if it were her own. As if she was born into it. She was the kind of woman who any man would be happy to have on the end of his arm, showing her off proudly to the world. She’s the kind of girl I wouldn’t mind having on the end of my arm… I shook the thought from my head quickly, climbing the stairs in a more clumsy fashion than her own, jumping two by two, and meeting her inside to show her up to my room.

“I don’t think you’ll have a problem with Kate’s clothes… You look about her size.” I smiled, not really sure what I should talk to her about. She was a complete stranger after all. She simply nodded and gave a smile. “Kate… The girl you cancelled lunch with? Will she mind?” I chuckled lightly, hoping to lessen her worries. “Of course not, love. I mean, how often does something like this happen?” I chuckled again and this time she joined me.

I heard the ding of the elevator as it reached my floor and she already out the door before I even knew it was open. I hope that isn’t a sign she wants to be rid of me… I took her into my room and gave her some more comfortable clothes to wear, watching her as she slipped into the bathroom to change. In a few minutes, I was positive this woman would be out of my life for good…

As she exited the bathroom, her dress was bundled in her hands and she looked around nervously, as though she was worried someone might find her there. “Are you alright, love?” I gave her a curious look, but she just smiled. “I should go. I don’t want to be in your way anymore than I have to.” She laid the dress out on my bed and slipped on a pair of flip flops she found by the bed. “I’ll send these back to your room in the morning… and thank you.” A soft smile graced her face, and that was that. She slipped out the door and by the time I made it to the hall to follow, she’d already disappeared. I didn’t know where she’d gone, but obviously she knew the hotel better than I did.

Haha, you already know that I love this so far, my friend! So amusing, but hey...I would marry a guy named Greg if it was perhaps the guy named Greg from CSI. But other than that, maybe not...lol.

"Adele" is so amusing, her thoughts during the wedding were great, hehe. Good thing she got out of there...and hmm...into a cab with Orlando Bloom...I'd say things are starting to look up for her. ;-)

Orlando's point of view is great! Hehe, such a boy.

I used hot 5 years ago... In fact I thik it's been in my vocabulary for quite some time... like since I was 3 or 4... lol

Thanks hun! That means a chunk (which is a lot in case you're confused by my random terminology! lol) He kind of sees her as something perfect and sacred and... somewhat holy I guess... or at least that's what he was picturing in his first meeting.

Glad you liked it! and hopefully I'll have more up! but maybe not, because I've got a really busy weekend myself. SO I don't know if I'll have time to refine, but, either way, let's be hopeful! haha. If not, enjoy your time away!!

Nah, it doesn't really suck, cause I look at it from the same viewpoint tht you just made. And besides, I'm used to the guys I like not liking me. lol

Tchao- Is that just a word you made up? Or is it from somewhere? If so, what? cause it looks cool... I'm sure it sounds cool too if I could pronounce it. lol

*tisk* Well methinks you should go and watch the entire originally trilogy right now then! Hehehehehe... ^_^

Aw, suck about guys, but trust me hun, I know what you mean *sighgrumblelaughsigh* It's not so bad though...hmmm....

*laughs* It's like Ciao (Chow...*rofl*), I think. I remember my French teacher being all "This is how you spell ciao in French!" and I went "Sweet!" and spelled it that way from then on. So basically it means "Bye!"....

(Unless I've been using it wrong the past...four years...haha)

Chapter 3: Adele’s POV

We arrived at the hotel sooner than I expected, and as I looked through the window at the building in front of me, an expression of shock and nervousness covered my face, though it was gone before Orlando could see it. What were the chances that he would be staying in my father’s own hotel? Not just one of the many chains, but my actual home? I put on a smile as Orlando, like a gentleman, helped me out of the car and quickly headed inside. Now I think about it, what were the chances that he wouldn’t be staying there? He was Orlando Bloom, the famous Elf. This was THE Vega Hotel… not just one of, but the… the first, the biggest, and the best. Of course he was staying there, and probably the rest of the fellowship as well.

I ascended the stairs quickly, nodding and smiling to Jerry, the door man, and saying hello, hoping he wouldn’t notice anything unusual, but how could he not? I was meant to be getting married right now, and everyone knew it, not running through the hotel barefoot in my wedding dress! I gave him a look and he nodded knowingly. Not a word of this was to be spoken to anyone, and as for Orlando, I had to pretend I didn’t know this place.

We made our way to his room, the trip in the elevator seeming to take forever, and the second the doors opened I was out, hoping no workers were on the floor at the time, waiting for him to lead me to his room.

Taking the clothes he offered, I slipped into the bathroom and let my dress fall to the floor, sighing with relief. I was completely free. No more husband-to-be, no more parents, at least for the moment, and no more bloody wedding dress! That dress was absolutely beautiful, but it was the bane of my life. For one, it was uncomfortable, and two, I didn’t want to be wearing it. I don’t want to get married! Angrily, I kicked the dress over to the corner of the bathroom while I changed; glad to be in the safety of a water closet, knowing there was no chance of anyone spotting me while I was in here, but also knowing I would have to come out eventually.

With Kate’s clothes on (which in all honesty were just a wee bit more than a little too small for me), I came out of the bathroom, more composed but still a little anxious, escape route planned in my mind, and the dress of which I intended to leave with Orlando to deal with bundled in my hand. “Are you alright, love?” Orlando gave me a curious look, noting my curious behaviour. He was far too inquisitive for my liking right now. But bless him, he has a heart of gold. “I should go. I don’t want to be in your way anymore than I have to.” I smiled as I laid the dress out on his bed and slipped on a pair of flip flops I found sitting by it.

“I’ll send these back to your room in the morning… and thank you.” I lowered my voice to a hushed whisper as I spoke my last words and quietly slipped out of the room, hurried down the hall for the fire escape stairwell and ran up the stairs. The echo of the flip, then the flop, and another flip, rang loudly through the cement tower, driving me crazy, yet I didn’t stop. I just had to get to the top floor. To my apartment.

I burst through the doors at the top of the stairwell, level 15, and ran straight up the hall to my apartment door, pressing in the security code like a pro and racing in. I knew it was only a matter of time before my parents came looking for me here. Usually it would be the last place on earth I would think of going, but my parents weren’t smart enough to know that. They were probably thinking I’d just got cold feet and needed some time to clear my mind. They wouldn’t even be panicked yet. Fools…

I stripped out of Kate’s clothes jumping into my own much more comfortable clothes and quickly packed a duffle bag of immediate necessities. I grabbed all the cash I thought I could get away with from the family safe, knowing I wouldn’t be able to use my credit card once I left. I bundled Kate’s clothes up in a washing bag and sent it down the laundry shoot with a note attached that hoped the workers would find, saying to return the clothes cleaned and ironed to room 409, Orlando’s room, along with my name and number (which would be new to them), that I had scribbled at the bottom of the same note.

Grabbing my mobile, I headed straight for the door, duffle bag swung over my shoulder, but as I stepped out into the hall, I immediately ran into a soft suited, slightly chubby, silver haired man, looking him in the eyes like a puppy dog caught breaking into the dog chocolates.

It was too late… My parents had arrived…

Chapter 4: Kate’s POV

I sat back in the not so comfortable chair at my table, mango juice in hand. I was waiting for Orlando at Café Enjoy. We had a lunch date, but, as usual, he was running late. I took in a deep breath and let it out with a sigh. I was used to it by now. It’s not like it was his fault. He had a very busy schedule while on tour. I’d learnt to expect it, and respect it, but it didn’t mean I was any less disappointed when he showed up late.

Like he was reading my mind, my phone rang into my thoughts, vibrating in my hand bag. I waded through the bag to find it and pulled it out, seeing Orlando’s name flash on and off the screen. I knew exactly what this call was for, but still, I put on a smile as I answered, not wanting him to know I was disappointed. It wasn’t his fault.

“Kate’s phone… Orlando? ... Oh no, that’s alright. I understand babe. I’ll see you tonight though, right?” I smiled hopefully. I knew it would be a late night, but at least it would be some time to spend with him. In the mean time, it was up to me to entertain myself.

So I ate lunch, by myself. Then I went site seeing, by myself. I even went clothes shopping. That’s right, you guessed it, by myself… London wasn’t really anywhere near as fun as I had hoped it would be. In fact, following Orlando around while he did promo work world wide was an over all let down. I thought it would mean more time to spend together, but apparently not. We saw less of each other when we were staying in the same hotel room than when we were living and working in different countries.

Later that afternoon, I went back to the hotel and crashed on the bed in front of the TV, ordering room service for dinner. I wonder when he’s coming home… Probably not for another few hours. I guess I could watch a movie while I wait. Maybe I should order him some dinner too… Just in case he comes home early… I heard a knock on the door. Why is he knocking? It’s his room too. I got up off the bed and walked to the door, and on opening it I found a young Spanish woman with a bag of my clothes in her hands. I have to admit I was more than confused, but held it back well, taking the bag from her. “Gracias, senorita” I smiled with a nod, tipping her and closing the door.

I sat back down on the bed with the bag, opening it up to find my clothes cleaned and ironed, along with a pair of my flip flops and a note. I unfolded it, and even though it appeared to be addressed to Orlando, I still read it.

Dear Orlando,
Thank you for this afternoon. I hope these clothes reach you safely.

What was that supposed to mean? And who the hell was Adele? Ha! I made a rhyme! Not that it makes me any happier. I climbed off the bed again, pacing back and forth, stewing over my thoughts as I waited… and kept waiting… Boy, was Orlando going to get it when he came home!
