Title: Learning to Live
Description: A Frodo coming to Earth Story

LijsSunshine06 - March 9, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
Summary: Katie McKnight was a successful obstetrician with a career that she loved. Her life changes when she meets a hobbit from another world…Middle Earth. Is she up to the challenge ahead of her of taking care of him and teach him how to live and learn on this Earth?

Disclaimer: I don’t know or own Frodo Baggins or any other Lord of the Rings character that is mentioned in the story (Sam, Merry, Pippin, Legolas etc); they’re owned by J.R.R. Tolkien who in my opinion is a freakin genius. I also don’t know or own Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Dom Monaghan, Billy Boyd and the others. I DO own all the fictional characters such as Katie, Jess, Brianna, Lindy, Josh, Leah, Andy and all the others. Plagiarism is really bad and illegal and wrong and dumb so don’t do it okay? Thanks and this story is pure FICTION!!! It never happened, even though I think it would be extremely cool if it did happen.

Author’s Note: This is a bit of a spoiler for people who haven’t read the books. Frodo’s flashbacks (later in the story) will help explain it soon. "Into the West" is not mine. It is from the Return of the King soundtrack and if you don't have it already, go get it! It's wonderful. It's performed by Annie Lennox.

Prologue

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away,
Safe in my arms
You’re only sleeping.

What can you see?
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises -
The ships have come to carry you home

Dawn will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again.

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see?
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises -
The ships have come to carry you home.

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the west

“Why am I here?” a soft voice was heard on the bridge that led to the ships. He could see the Grey Havens in front of him and the ship was pure white.

Elves boarded the ship, three stood in front of the travelers and smiled. Lord Elrond, Lord Celeborn and the Lady Galadrial smiled at the hobbits.

Frodo Baggins held onto his Uncle Bilbo’s arm gently as he was invited to join them to the Undying Lands for they would never return.

“Yes.” the very old Bilbo replied with a smile. “I think I am ready for one last adventure."

Bilbo handed Frodo his big red book and Frodo held onto it tightly as he hugged his uncle tightly to him.

Gandalf the White smiled as he turned around and motioned to Frodo.

“It is time Frodo.” he said with a small smile.

Frodo was silent as he glanced to face his three dearest Hobbit friends. Peregrin Took, Meriadoc (Merry) Brandybuck and Samwise Gamgee stood there with tears pouring down their faces.

"We set out to save the Shire Sam. And it has been saved, but not for me." Frodo said softly.

"You don't mean that. You can't leave."Sam cried as he fought back tears as he was handed the Red Book.

"The last pages are for you Sam." Frodo said as he turned towards Merry who was letting it show how he felt. Frodo hugged Merry tightly and Merry hugged him back just as tightly.

“Take care of yourself Merry and watch over Pippin. He needs you.” Frodo whispered and Merry sniffled as he nodded.

A few minutes later, Frodo pulled away and moved over to Pippin, who was trying so hard not to cry. Frodo hugged Pippin and Pippin hugged him back.

“Take care of yourself Pip and don’t change a bit. Take care of Merry.” Frodo said and then turning to his best friend of them all.

Sam was crying so much that it was hard for Frodo not to. He grabbed Sam and held him tight longer than the others. Sam immediately cried in his arms as they held each other.

“Sam, I will never forget you. Take care of Bag End and that family of yours.” Frodo commented before pulling away and kissing Sam's forehead.

Sam, Merry and Pippin waved back and continued to watch him as he disappeared into the sun. Into the West.

Frodo sat on the back of the ship while sighing. He had left everything he knew and everyone he ever knew back in the Shire and in Middle Earth.

Why did he leave?

He didn’t know. He wasn’t even sure if he had made the right decision.

“Someone please give me a sign that I’m going the right thing.” he whispered not sure if anyone or anything could hear him.

A light came into Frodo’s view and he watched it carefully it float around the water until it came to shine on Frodo. He sighed and leaned his head back as he felt the wind blow through his long brown curly hair. His eyes closed as he felt himself being lifted up into the air.

His bag was in his hand, all that reminded him of home as he gently floated through the air. He wasn’t sure where he was going, but at this moment in time, he personally wanted an answer and didn't care.

His big blue eyes opened and he found himself high in the sky and not even the ship was in his sight. He glanced ahead and saw a bright light ahead. Not sure of what was occurring; he let himself being pulled into the light. Surrounding him were scenery of the woods and of a long and big bridge that reminded him of the Brandywine Bridge.

He then saw a face. A very familiar face, only one he had seen in his dreams. The face which was a woman's smiled brightly as her blonde hair flew throughout the sky. Unable to resist, he closed his face and let himself to be pulled into the light.

And out of Middle Earth.

I definiatly like the idea for this fic,
and I am very curious to see what you are going to do with it.

How Frodo will return, why he returns and how that will be for him.
How the people will react to him and if he won; regret coming back.
Those things certainly can be interesting to see...so I am looking forward to reading more.
