Kodak Moment
by LijsSunshine06

The weather in Glasgow, Scotland was very cool and chilly that night. Then why was the window open?

The baby was crying as I slowly opened my eyes and glanced around the dark master bedroom, my husband and I shared. Sure the room was big, but it felt small since I was alone.

I glanced at the side of the bed my husband, laid down in and found it empty. He must be in with the baby, I thought.

I slowly got up, stretched out my arms as I grabbed a bathrobe to keep me warm as I slowly walked down the hallway and looked into the baby’s room.

Yup, Billy was in there. I could smell his cologne and his scent as I made my way up to the door and leaned on the mantel, smiling as I watched my husband interact with the baby.

Isabella Noelle was our angel. She was only seven weeks old and it already seemed like she favored Billy over me, which was fine.

I remember Billy being so ecstatic when we found out I was going to having a girl. We already have two boys Liam and Dominic, but it was time for Billy, like every dad, to have his daddy’s girl. As a Daddy’s Girl myself, I can completely understand.

I smiled again as Billy was holding Bella, our nickname for her in his big and gentle arms as he rocked her back and forth in the rocking chair.

Watching them, made me realize how lucky I was to be married to a wonderful man and an amazing father to three young children. I couldn’t have done it without Billy and I fall in love with him again and again, every time I see him with Liam, Dominic or Bella. He is naturally a good father, but I also recall when he was a nervous wreck during the twins’ pregnancy.

When I told Billy, two months after we were married that I was pregnant, he had a reaction that I thought was the normal one. He was absolutely ecstatic and yet nervous at the same time. It was actually quite funny to see Billy freaking out about everything.

For example, during the twins’ pregnancy, I was nauseous for the first four months and every time I was in the bathroom, I could hear Billy fidgeting around and pacing around the room trying to see if everything was okay. Then for a funny Father’s Day present, I gave him some books on babies and parenthood. There were four on them. He was done with all of them before we went to bed.

Then on July 23rd, Liam Orlando and Dominic Elijah were born. Dominic, or affectionately known as Dom was born 3 minutes earlier than Liam. Both twins had similar personalities, both energetic and fun to be around. Liam was like his Uncle Orlando, wild and spontaneous, while Dom and Liam were like their Uncles Dom and Elijah, both energetic and playful.

Bella who was born on March 28th, on the other hand was almost exactly like me, reserved and opinionated, never afraid to cry. But always found comfort in myself or Billy.

I have gotten carried away, haven’t I? Terribly sorry…

I leaned on the door mantel too heavy, creating a noise in which Billy turned his head, startled by the noise. But he relaxed more when he recognized me.

He nods his head over telling me to join him and I did slowly making sure I wouldn’t wake Bella. Meanwhile he slowly stood up and wrapped one of his strong arms around me pulling me into a tight hug with him and Bella. He continued to rock her gently while kissing the side of my head. Billy was most definitely a toucher; he loved putting his hands on me and the children. It was his way of letting us know he was there to protect us.

“Why are ye out of bed love?” he whispered softly trying not to wake the baby.

“I couldn’t sleep.” I murmured in his ear softly making him shiver.

“It’s three in the morning Katie love, ye need yer sleep. Come on.” he ushered me out of Bella’s room and back into our bedroom. He placed Bella in the bassinet we kept near the bed just in case, we wanted her close.

We both kissed Bella’s cheeks and then went back into the hallway and went into Liam and Dominic’s room. We found them fast asleep in their beds or their “big boy beds” as Billy calls them. Billy insisted that once they were two, they needed to get bigger beds. I don’t know, it must have been something he read in the baby books. Damn, I need to burn them.

We gently closed the door and walked back into our room. I took off the bathrobe, which turned out to be his and placed it at the head of the bed, for the morning. We both climbed into our nice and warm bed and snuggled close to one another like we always did. Billy was my teddy bear and I was his.

He kissed me gently on the lips as I kissed him back.

“I love ye Katie.” he whispered while kissing and nibbling on my neck.

I pulled his head up and looked into his beautiful green eyes.

“And I love you too Billy.” I whispered as I felt his arms wrap around my sensitive stomach and then he moved them to my waist, when I winced out in pain.

Bella was born through a Cesarean section and ever since the surgery, my stomach had been very sensitive and the doctors said that was normal for a couple more weeks.

Liam and Dominic were born naturally and I swear, if you were there, you would have loved to seen Billy’s face, of amazement and sickness. Everybody thought he was going to pass out.

Now time to get warm again, with the help of my teddy bear.

A few hours later, I felt the sun shining on mine and Billy’s faces through the window. It must be morning…again.

Then I heard two tiny voices whisper.

One saying “Mommy” and the other “Daddy”.

I slowly opened my eyes and then gently nudged Billy who grunted as he opened his eyes slowly, just like I did.

I turned my head and smiled when I saw Dominic standing in front of me showing me the cheeky grin he had gotten from his dad. Plus with the help of the uncle Dom, I wasn’t the least bit shocked when Dominic started to smile at everyone like that.

I picked up Dominic and stood up in bed as Billy did the same with Liam. But then sat Liam down on the bed as he slowly picked up our daughter, who was starting wake also.

As Dominic started talking to Liam, I grabbed Bella from Billy’s arms so he could sit down and pick up Liam.

“Bella.” Liam said with a smile on his face.

I smiled while nodding my head.

“Yeah Liam, this is Bella. Who is that?” I asked pointing towards Billy who gave him a goofy grin.

Liam laughed.

“That’s Daddy Mommy.” he replied while giggling.

“What’s that Mommy?” Dominic asked pointing towards my camera on the stand next to mine and Billy’s dresser.

“It’s a camera Dom, let’s go check it out, you want to?” I asked and Dominic looked at me for a second before nodding his head.

I handed Bella to Billy while I picked up Dominic and stood up from the bed and showed Dom my camera. My profession is teaching, not a photographer, just a hobby I suppose.

I glanced at the bed and met Billy’s eyes. He nodded in agreement with me that a picture should be taken at this moment. As I loaded the camera, Dom gave me a silly grin. I gave one back and then stopped to tickle him. He giggled and laughed while squirming in my arms.

Dom looked at me for one second and hugged his body close to mine. He was a lot like his Uncle Dom, who when we announced the names of the twins, he cried. I then set up the camera and then ran back to the bed.

I placed Dom in my lap, as Billy did the same to Liam. Bella was now awake and in mine and Billy’s arms. The red light on the camera blinked, so the picture would be taken in a few seconds.

“Smile boys." Billy said quickly before the camera went off.

That picture is now framed and around the house. It was in almost every single room, including mine and Billy’s room, the twins’ room and Bella’s room. Also in mine and Billy’s wallets and on my desk at the nursery school I taught at. Whenever people come over or glance at that picture, they can see in our eyes and smiles, that we are a happy family.

Billy and I walked downstairs one evening and flopped on the couch. All the children were sleeping. Bella was probably going to be asleep for most of the night. Liam and Dominic were exhausted from spending the day with Dom and Elijah. Hehe, it’s Orlando’s turn tomorrow.

Billy then kissed me lovingly on the lips and I kissed him back. We both then pulled away and turned on the television softly, so it wouldn’t wake the kids. But neither one of us paid attention to the television.

Instead, we looked at the picture of us, that had been taken a week ago of all of us in mine and Billy’s bed which hung over the television.

I know for a fact that I am blessed, there is no doubt in my mind. If you had told me ten years earlier, I would have gotten married and had three young and beautiful children, I would laughed and told you that you were crazy.

But I was completely wrong. Billy and the children were the missing pieces on the puzzle of myself, and now the puzzle is complete. I thank fate and God every single day for a man like Billy Boyd. My husband. My soulmate.

Moments may come and go, and I know they will. But moments and memories, like the picture of us, is something you will never forget. And that is why we call it a Kodak Moment.

I have everything I ever have wanted. I couldn’t ask for anything else, if I was, I was only being selfish. Liam, Dominic and Bella are ours. Billy’s mine and that is enough to keep me going for a very long time.
