Title: Oscar nominations
ninque elen - January 31, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Hello all you movie loving members out there.
It is time again for the oscar nominations.
If your curious to see who got nominated for what,
here is the link to the page to do so...
And the nominees are....I personally keep my fingers crossed that Pride and prejudice will win an oscar.
Anyone else a favourite?

Pride and Prejudice will be in theatres only next Friday here in Italy, so I cannot really tell about it. Though I must admit that this movie is taken out of one of my favourite novels of ALL times...
Not to mention the fact that I saw the television adaption of it (YEAH! The one with Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy) and that I am sure I'll find it hard not to love this movie.
Now I haven't seen all of the nominated movies, but there are few that I did enjoy, like the Chronicles of Narnia or Good night, good luck, or The Corpse bride (which I adored!)! So I think I'll stick to these.
Anyone knows whether Orlando will be around?
:lalala: :eeek:

Weeeeeee
I have the television adaptation on dvd.
Oh my gosh I am sooo in love with it...or more correctly with Mr. Darcy
It is one of my all time favourite books to......and I think you will find the movie quite good.
Though in all honesty...the television adaptation is more accuratly. But hey who cares
I also liked: Star wars; revenge of the sith and Harry Potter.
One of the foreign movies is dutch (or half dutch)....I am feeling proud here.

Thanks for posting this, Dana! I hadn't had a chance to look at the nominees yet. I haven't really seen most of the movies, I fear...so I suppose I can't really make an opinion.
Though, I DID see Pride and Prejudice and I DID love it! I could start on a huge speal of how much I adore Darcy and everything about him...new movie, Colin Firth in old movie, and of course, from the book. I hope they win a lot! I'd actually like to see Keira Knightley win the Oscar, but I wouldn't be disappointed with Reese Witherspoon getting it. Mind, I didn't see Walk the Line, but I did see clips and she was awesome. And, of course I just like her all around as an actress.
Guess Brokeback Mountain will win about everything. Don't like Jake Gyllenhal at all, and can only half-way take Heath Ledger, so I doubt I'll ever watch the movie.
So, here's hoping for P&P for all the categories it's nominated in.

I adore Walk The Line, just fantastic chemistry between Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon! Disappointed that Russell Crowe missed out on a nomination for best actor though...
As for P&P, well, I hated the book (*cue shocked faces*) and I am still on the waiting list for the television series DVD at the library, plus I did not watch the Keira Knightley version on the big screen, so not too much to say about that.
Most of the other films are late arriving in Singapore, as per previous years, so nothing much to say I guess. :P
There was a Singapore film which was about to make it into the category of best foreign film. Except it was not entirely in a foreign language it was scrapped off that list. :( Well, dude, we speak English here...???

Well there are a fair amount of movies nominated that I didn't get a chance to see...so I guess that kind of skews my choices.
I saw Pride and Prejudice and enjoyed it, so hopefully that will do well. *whispers* But I still love the Colin Firth series the best!
I saw Walk the Line and although I had my suspicious I really enjoyed it. I wasn't all that enthused to see a movie about Johnny Cash, but I went because I adore Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed with either of their performances.
I also saw North Country with Charlize Theron and was again really impressed.
Loved Harry Potter and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (hello Obi Wan!)
I would be super excited if Charlie and the Chocolate Factory won the oscar for costuming. I thought it was brilliant.
Like Amber, I just have this weird feeling that Brokeback Mountain will walk away with a lot of oscars. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say whether or not I think it deserves to win.
Regardless, it should be interesting. ^_^

P.S. I forgot to add that I was severly disappointed that History of Violence did not get a single nomination for any of the categories.
Yes, I will admit, it does have Viggo in it and so that is part of the reason I was compelled to see it. Honestly, I thought Viggo did an amazing job as Tom Stall, the lead character. I thought for certain he would get an Oscar nod for the role.
I'm also surprised that Maria Bello missed out on an Oscar nomination for her performance.
My only thought is that maybe the movie was considered far too violent and the Oscar's didn't want to draw attention to something like that. I suggest everyone gives the movie a try....even if it is just to oogle Viggo. :tsk:

Hey, did anyone see Reese Witherspoon's acceptance speech? I thought she was so beautiful and her words were just full of grace. I am really glad she won, I totally thought she deserved it after I watched Walk the Line. I think she's a really talented actress and she also seems like such a sweet person.
I missed the rest of the Oscars, however. Anyone surprised by some of the winners?
