Title: Let it Snow

~Jewelz~ - December 2, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
Okay, so, this is what I did over winter break *laughs* I originally intended to submit it for the Dec short fic contest. But then I woke up and realized it was waaaaaay too long, and it wasn't really a song fic, hehe. It does include all the words though, in case you care.

The title is Let It Snow because that's what the file is called, hehe. I could come up with something better, but I hate titles, so that's the title.

Annnyway... it's rated... PG probably, because I don't think there's anything inappropriate in it at all (save one or two no-so-bad swear words).

I shall now post in sections, bwah haha....(just keep in mind that it's all really suppose to be one, so the breaks might not be perfect; I didn't think you wanted to read 9 typed pages worth of fic at once, hehe)

Okay, if you've made it this far, I commend you! Now just please keep in mind that this hasn't been worked on a ton, so if it's a mess please don't think any less of me *laughs*

I'm done rambling now; section one (for real):

"Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!..."

"Shit!!" Julianna swore at the snow that poured down over her and kicked the tire of her car, which refused to start. As if it was not bad enough that she was stuck in a new city with nothing to do on bloody Christmas eve. Now she was bound to spend the night shivering against her car. Figures that her coat lacked a hood.

Grumbling to herself, Julianna debated finding a window to kick in at the newspaper where she worked, just to have somewhere warm to brood. It simply was not fair that they did not give editor's secretaries keys; they are people too.

"Damn snow," she finished her thoughts outloud, tugging her collar to keep her neck from freezing off.

"Admiring the weather?"

"Gah!!" she started at the voice and slipped, sending her foot into an ankle deep puddle. She swore again, this time under her breathe, and grumbled at the man who she blamed for her fall, "You scared me, Bale!"

Christian laughed the sight of the "new girl" shivering in the snow and swearing at the precipitation. "Well, I am a scary guy," he teased her. There was something awfully adorable about her standing there soaked, and acting in very unladylike manner. Every past instance he had wandered by her desk, making some cheeky remark or saying hello, she had seemed so proper with her guarded smile. This Julianna he liked much better.

"Am I amusing you?" Jules shot him an annoyed look. Unfortunatly, the sight of her already dripping hair sent him choking back laughter rather than begging for her forgivness. When he didn't respond Jules added cooly, "Why sure Mr. Bale, I'd love a rid home from someone so prestegeous as yourself."

The grin that found its way onto his face then was so ridiculous that it would have broken Jules' ice-queen act, had he not replied, "Nope sorry, I'm not accustom to giving strangers rides home."

Jules mouth dropped open in disbelief as he turned suddenly and strode down the street to his own car, opening the door and sliding into the drivers seat. The cruelness of it all made Jules wish she had listened to her mother and never left her hometown. The wind chose that moment to blow a gust of snow into her face, just out of spite.

Bitting her lips furiously, another thing her mother advised against, Jules tried not to burst into tears. She was an adult; she could handle this. Then again, it was very possible that she would freeze to death now. Damn that cocky reporter!

HOOOONK!!!!!

Jules screamed again and spun around, this time landing herself in a puddle on her side. Hysterical laughter drifted out of the car that had pulled up right beside her and honked. As she pulled herself pathetically to herself to her feet, Christian leaned over to rolled down the window. "Here's the deal; I'm already about an hour late for dinner at my sister's house. So either you can come along or you can stand out in the snow all night." He flipped the collar of his jacket up around his neck before continuing, "You're choice."

For a moment Jules simply stood out in the snow, weighing her options and becoming more soaked from the snow by the minute. Glancing again at the clock Christian called out, "Come on Larson, I'm not going to kidnap you." Jules shot him a wary look rather than laughing at his joke. "I'll have you back to your appartment before late. I swear."

When Julianna's only response was to move her foot around in the snow, listening to the crunching sound it made, Christian added, "Wouldn't you rather have a real dinner than walk home? I swear, my sis is an incredible cook." Jules rose an eyebrow at this, suddenly thinking of how she could kill for a cup of coffee right then.

"Awww come on Larson!" He quickly switched into annoying-puppy-dog mode. "Good food," he nodded encouragingly, laughter in his forrest coloured eyes, "Yummy yummy!"

Jules muttered to herself and she snatched her purse off the hood of her car and stumbled over to his car. "You're a very strange man," she said, looking in a him through the open window.

"Is that a yes?" He smiled to himself, half pleased by her answer and half thinking of the mashed potatoes waiting for him at his sisters' house.

Jules took a deep breath and nodded, "Yes." She tugged open the door and slumped into the seat, sighing dramatically to convey her annoyance.

"Good," Christian flicked on the heater and pushed the vents toward her to curb the cold, "Bingley would've killed me if I'd left his best secretary out in the snow. A lowly reporter like myself has to be careful about these things."

Jules noticed that, for Christian's effort, the snow covering her was melting and soaking through her clothes. Still, she managed, "Well at least we both know what your motives are." His grin returned at this, and Jules felt a slight smile creep onto her lips in spite of herself, because of his. She amused herself by noting that he was lucky to be a paper reporter, because one instance of that smile on broadcast would kill his career.

"I really can't stay- But baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away- But baby it's cold outside
This evening has been so veeerrry nice-
I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice..."

She glanced back at him to see that he was still grinning that grin as he sang to the Christmas music on the radio. Perhaps that smile is not such a curse after all...

More please. *puts on the pathetic puppy dog eyes look*

~Jewelz~ - December 4, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Well, if you insist... :D

What seemed like only moments later the two of them were trudging up a walkway much in need of shoveling toward a sweet little house, complete with white icicle Christmas lights. Jules would have adored it in spite of herself, had she not been desperatly wondering what the evening was going to be like. She had not been invited, what if they did not have enough food? Or stared at her all evening?! Or hated her!? She could have kicked herself for being so concerned over what a near stranger's family thought of her. But still...

A mere second passed between Christian knocking on the door and it swinging open, "Chris! You made it!" A woman obviously related to him hugged him tightly before breaking away and scolding him, "Erin is going to kill you for being so la-"

To Julianna's horror, the woman stopped mid-sentence at the sight of her and her face read confussion for a moment. But before Julianna could react the woman was smiling brightly at her and introducing herself as Christian's youngest elder sister, Louise. Julianna hardly had time to reply with her name before Louise was tugging her into the house and Christian shut the door behind them.

Jules stood in the doorway, gaping at the beautiful table set out before. Louise continued pulling her toward what turned out to be the kitchen, calling out, "Hey everyone Chris is here! And he brought a new girlfriend he didn't bother to tell us about." At this Jules' face returned to the paleness she had exhibited earlier while standing out in the snow.

She wished she had stayed there. "No, really, I'm not- I just- I-" Jules turned back to Christian for aid in time to see a couple of children run up and tackle him.

"Uncle Chris!!" they squealed in unison, one tugging on his sleeve while the other attempted to climb onto his back. Jules had time to see him laugh and grab one in each arm, falling on the carpet next to the entry way, before being drug herself into a room filled with more family.

"Who? What?" A second woman dropped the carrots she had been arranging on a plate and rounded the kitchen island to introduce herself to Julianna, "Hello there, I'm Chris' sister, Sharon. And where did you come from?"

"The side of the road," Christian offered as he snuck into the kitchen, opening a cupboard and pulling out a container of popcorn kernals. Jules' jaw dropped at his comment, and both women near her glanced back at her in confussion. Louise took note of Jules' clothes, "I suppose that explains why she's dripping everywhere."

Not exactly appreiciating being refered to as if she was not there, Jules chewed on the inside of her lips and looked to Christian for help. He noticed her glaring at him and said to Louise, "Be nice. She works at the newsroom."

"I see," Sharon gave Louise a knowing glance, while Julianna looked back and forth nervously at the plotting sisters. It was then that Christian's third sister paused in her cooking to ask Christian, "What do you think you're doing?"

Julianna, Louise and Sharon turned to see Christian pausing halfway out of the kitchen, popcorn in one hand and box of aluminum foil in the other. "Nothing!" he claimed and then rushed out of the room to meet his giggling niece and nephew by the fireplace.

"Gah!" Erin, his eldest sister, rolled her eyes and turned to them, "Men! They never grow up!"

"What in the heck?" Jules was still watching the kitchen doorway in confussion, "Is he going to-?"

"Make a popcorn popper out of aluminum foil?" Sharon supplied, "Yes."

"You're brave to let him do that in your house," Jules noted to Erin, who shrugged in response. "This is nothing new hun." She then noticed Julianna's attire and ordered Louise to find her something dry to wear. Louise had a fine time choosing an outfit for their guest, but finally managed to get Jules to agree to a pair of jeans, slippers and a fuzzy grey-blue sweater.

When they returned to the kitchen Erin handed Jules a cup of coffee without asking about it, "Would you mind filling up some water glasses?" Jules nodded absently, more concerned with her coffee that what had been said to her.

Accepting Jules' nod as a "yes," Erin went back to tossing potatoes into boiling water to make those mashed potatoes Christian had been preoccupied with earlier. Suddenly Julianna, the only-child in a distant family, found herself thrown in the middle of a chaotic estrogen filled kitchen. With a bit of scolding from Erin, the other two sisters were back at helping out, spilling things and laughing over childhood jokes.

"Where is John?" Erin wondered aloud, wipping bits of now-mashed potatoes on her apron "He needs to cut the ham."

"Probably in the office with Caleb and Dean, playing with your new computer," Louise noted as she strained peas in the sink. She flicked her wet hands in the sink, her beautifully French-tipped nails clicking.

"I swear, if they doesn't start surfacing for fresh air now and then I am going to have to return that stupid computer," Erin flicked a brunette curl out of her eyes and then proceeded to scoop the potatoes into a serving dish.

"Is Caleb still obsessed with his little online friend from Arizona?" Sharon giggled to herself, amused by her nephew's instant messenger girlfriend. Erin just let out an exasperated sigh and handed the potato dish for Sharon to place on the table, "Don't get me started. Besides, I thought you computer nerds understood each other." Jules smiled from her place filling water glasses at the sink as Sharon stuck her tongue out at Erin and walked into the dining room.

"So, Julianna," Louise asked over her shoulder as she twisted her gold locks into a hair clip, "What is it that you do where Chris works? Are you a journalist?"

Jules shook her head and filled another glass with water, "I actually just started as a secretary." She stepped aside as Louise reached over and picked up a couple glasses, gesturing for her to follow her to the table as Jules continued, "But I would like to do journalist work, eventually."

"Ah huh," Louise smiled and set the glasses down on the table. As she turned to get more water glasses, Louise's own olive coloured eyes sparkled with amusement. There was something about this quiet girl that was instantly likable, though she could not quite put her finger on it. "You're coming along to the midnight service then I suppose?"

"The what?" Jules was preoccupied by the sight of Christian holding his nephew up so that he could stick the haphazrd popcorn popper into the fireplace.

Louise rolled her eyes at her brother's antic and continued, "The Christmas Eve candlelight service at Trinity Pres.? The one where the pastor always talks forever so he can say 'Merry Christmas' at midnight?" She laughed at this, recalling all the Christmas Eves she had spent at that church, playing with the hot wax in her candle.

Jules shook her head, "Never heard of it. But then, I just moved to the city." She paused to laugh when Christian winced from trying to grap hot popcorn out of the popper. "Christian's my ride home though, so it really depends on him."

"Good!" Louise nodded, knowing that Christian most likely planned to go. She then walked back into the kitchen for more water glasses, with Jules trailing behind her, still rolling her eyes at Christian.

Okay, more story :D

Soon after, Sharon had been sent to fetch her brother-in-law, nephew, and Louise's finacee, Dean, and they wandered in to partake of the food. Christian stepped back up the few stairs down to the living room with his niece on his shoulders and popcorn in his hair. Not to mention a nephew hanging on his left foot and a singed aluminum foil bowl full of popcorn.

He paused next to Julianna, "Popcorn?" He held it out to her, grinning that grin and tilting his head. He appeared nothing like the busy reporter she had seen in the newsroom, save for the hints of his true nature she would never have remembered without witnessing that particular look. His sister was right, apparently they never do grow up; not really.

John had been rushed past her during their introduction to slice the ham, while Dean went off to find her a chair. The meal itself was full of endless chatter, conversations going on over each other and getting confused halfway through. Julianna spent most of it just eating silently and taking it all in, laughing to herself at the beautiful chaos of it all. The food was delicious, as Christian had promised it would be. Jules, having never had a brother around for holiday meals, was a bit concerned by the amount of mashed potatoes he downed, given that he was her ride home. But Louise, who was seated to her right just laughed when Jules commented on it and pointed out that Dean had already eaten five rolls and numerous helpings of ham.

After everyone had finished eating and set their dishes in the sink Erin started washing dishes furiously while Louise dried and put them away. Sharon wandered around with plastic wrap, pouring leftovers into smaller containers and complaining about food getting stuck to her fingers. Erin's daughter, Hannah, was plucking away a Christmas tune on the piano, very proud of her progress since beginning lessons two months ago. Caleb sat in an armchair with his younger brother, Luke, looking over his shoulder as he played on his Gameboy. And the three men were comparing stories about college years that Julianna was glad to get away from as she watched over the homemade cider on the stove.

She found herself humming along to the simple version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas that Hannah was playing, and gazing through the kitchen doorway at their Christmas tree. It was everything a Christmas tree ought to be; fresh from the woods, not store-bought like so many she'd had growing up, and covered in muli-coloured lights and homemade ornaments. Presents were stuffed under the tree, enough to cover a several inch radius and piled up to the level of the dining area a few feet above the living room.

Looking at all the bits of Christmas around her, Julianna laughed at her own sentimentality. It was not as if she did not have a similar tree back at her appartment, and she had presents sent from home and still to be sent to friends stacked under it. It was never as if she was deprived, still she was glad in spite of the unusual situation to have people to be around on Christmas Eve. Besides, pretty much anything beats sleeping in the snow.

"Cider..." Jules looked up to see that John had wandered into the kitchen doorway at the smell of the cider. Erin laughed from the sink and said, "Nope sorry! It's for after the service."

John pouted to this, which anyone must admit was quite amusing to see a grown man do, "But I'm not even going..." but Erin couldn't be shaken. She wandered passed him while searching for more dishsoap and patted him on the cheek with her hand, smiling amusedly.

Sharon could not resist pointing above their heads and noting, "Awww mistletoe. Gee I don't know, do you think he still has it in him to lay one on his wife?" Louise snickered next to the sink and John shook his head at the sisters before Erin stood on her tip-toes and kissed him. She then turned around and made a face at her sisters as John wandered back to the living room without any cider. "You two are ridiculous, you know."

"Us? Never!" Sharon exclaimed with mock surprise. Louise just ignored her sister and moved past Jules to return a mug to the cupboard. Julianna moved out of the way as Louise laughed, "So Julianna, don't you find us alarmingly sappy?"

Jules just smiled as Erin said, "What you don't know is that I secretly spilled sugar into the peas." It is true, those peas were strangely sweet. "Okay, great," Erin stepped back and surveyed the fairly clean countertop, "This is bloody good enough."

Louise tapped her nails on the clock, announcing it was time to go and then rushed out of the room to find her coat. Erin sighed to herself and resolved to go put her children to bed, calling for John to help her do so. The three children were not about to manage to stay awake for the service; already dragging while others gathered up coats to go around ten o'clock. Jules curiously watched John offer to stay alone with the kids while Erin went to the service. But Erin simply smiled and thanked him with a kiss before stating that she was more than content to stay at home and wrap presents with him.

Still smiling at the affection between the couple, Jules was slightly startled when Christian walked up the steps behind her, "You know, I could drive you back home and then go to the service if you like." He spoke over her shoulder, his mouth so close to her ear that it nearly sent a shiver down her back.

She smiled slightly and turned to face him. It was strange to be slightly taller than him, which she never would have managed had he not been two steps bellow her. She met his eyes carefully, "That's alright." He smiled slightly as she spoke, stepping up another step toward her as she continued, "I don't mind going..." She paused slightly, pretending the forest colour of his eyes was not making her feel slightly strange. "That is, if you don't mind me coming along."

Christian smiled at this, "Not at all."

He then turned away from her, snapping them both out of the moment, and pulled his coat off the railing. While sticking his arms into the sleeves he caught his sister Sharon's glance, which told him more than he liked to know. How foolish of him to be so forward with a woman he hardly knew; if having four sisters had taught him anything, it should have been that. Still, it was Sharon who turned away smiling, having seen the change in both of them for that moment they had paused.

Jules pulled her fairly dry jacket off the railing and wrapped it around herself, pulling off the slippers and struggling to get her feet back into her snow boots. She could not help but feel uneasy, having spent the evening with his lovely family only to nearly melt into him like a fool right infront of them all. No, she would not let those eyes and that grin get the best of her; she knew better.

"Ready to go then?" Dean stood by the door, keys in hand and a scarf wrapped around his neck about a million times. Louise shook her head and reached out to fix it before leading the rest of them out the door.

Julianna turned to thank Erin and John for having her for dinner and recieved a tight hug from the former. Jules smiled back and said goodbye, quickly ducking out the door. Christian hugged his sister goodbye and shut the door behind them...

Not to sweet at all.

Well, here's the second to last part anyway ;)...

Then they were all out the door and pilling into cars; Christian, Jules and Sharon into one, Dean and Louise into another. Christian honked the horn as they drove away and Jules occupied herself by brushing fresh snow off her coat. Louise sat in the back middle seat, leaning forward to talk to them.

"So Jules, when did you move to the city?"

Looking up from her coat, slightly confused, Julianna managed, "Erm... about five months ago.... Do you live in the city?"

Louise made a face, "Gawd no," she patted Christian on the shoulder, "This one here's the only one who can stand that place. I live in London most of the year." Christian glanced in the rearview mirror at her, an unreadable expression on his face.

"Really?" Jules voice showed her interest regardles of her cool nature, "I've always wanted to go to London. What's it like?"

"Wet." Louise laughed at her own joke. "Chris, you should bring her to London with you the next time you visit me!" Jules bit her lip at this prospect, gazing out the window at the neverending snow.

Christian changed the subject by turning on the radio.

The rest of the ride to the church was filled with Christian's offkey singing and Louise booing along to it. When they arrived at the church Jules hopped out of the car, shutting the door behind her and jumping up and down in the snow to keep warm. Louise and Christian got out of the other side of the car, where he said under his breath, "What are you trying Louise? She and I hardly know each other."

Louise just hugged her brother and, with a smile, skipped off toward the door of the church, leaving the other two to follow her up the frozen path. Jules fell into step next to Christian, keeping her eyes on the snow to avoid landing in it. Still there was an edge in his walk that she could not have ignored without later regretting it, "Are you alright?"

He kept his eyes on the ground, his black coat pulled tightly around his body. After a moment he spoke, "I'm fine. I'm just sorry if my sisters are making you uncomfortable..."

"I sure they mean well..." Jules trailed off, watching him out of the corner of her eye. Soon they reached the church doorway though, where Louise waited, holding it open. Soft music drifted out to them, wrapping around Julianna and allowing her to forget all but the warmth that inside promised. She stepped into the carpeted santuary and gratefully recieved an old candle placed in a plasic cup to catch wax. Someone else took her coat and hung it up while she gazed through the windows into the rest of the santuary. Everywhere twinkled lights and smelled of evergreen wreaths.

So wrapped up in the beauty of it all, she hardly noticed when Christian gently took her arm to lead her in to find a place to sit. At the front of the room stood a single woman, dressed in a emerald green choir room, from whom a beautiful voice sang of shepard boys and mighty kings. Listen to what I say... A child ,a child, sleeping int he night, He will bring us goodness and light....

He will bring us goodness and light...

Christmas lights and strings of pretend evergreen were by far overshadowed by the tree that stood at the front left of the room. Covered in white lights and holly, paper ornaments daring to record dreams completed the display. And, had they ventured in the main door rather than one of the side, they would have seen the most spectacular hand carved nativity scene, which the pastors son had rearranged so that the wise men were no where to be found. According to him they had not shown up until two years later anyway, so no one bothered to find them until a week later.

What Christian and his sisters saw was familiar. Faces they had known for years, smiling the same smiles on the night before Christmas, regardless of all the time that had passed. As the woman's voice rang out the last words of her performance, the five of them found a seat near the middle, where the siblings had been sitting since their parents brought them there as children.

Voices rang out together through the first few hymns, and Julianna found herself compelled to sing the notes on the page inspite of herself. There was a perfection in the air that told her she simply must, and she felt no desire to complain. The congregation even managed to laugh it's way through the ranges of the Hallelujah Chorus, a yearly failure yet full of praise. Julianna was lucky enough to have sat by Sharon, who could generally hold her own voice, so Jules had her to count on.

Christian, on the other, hand was having too much fun to try, and had most of the people around him either laughing or cringing by the last verses. Louise elbowed him, but he never let on his actual abilities as Oh Holy Night floated out of the organ pipes above and infront of them.

The sermon itself went on beautifully, though bits of dry Presbyterian humour were not without their place. Julianna watched those around her thoughtfully as she listened to the sermon, wondering if they saw so much strange beauty in this oddly familiar setting as she did. Something in the way the pastor kept making references to Aslan and Narnia made her smile and remember similar people back home that she would never forget.

Next to her Christian was listening carefully to the pastor, though the warmth and familiarity of the room was taking a toll on his consciousness. At one point he caught Jules watching him dozing off and made a face at her before sitting up straighter. The two laughed silently and Julianna never noticed his arm on the pew back behind her.

When the time for candles came everyone blinked the sleep out of their eyes and sat forward, hoping to stay alert enough not to set themselves on fire. The senior pastor lit his candle from the arrangement that had been lit all serice and then passed the flame along to ushers, who in turn gave it alone to each of the rows, making their way to the back. Silence filled the room as one by one tiny flames came forth infront of each member or the congregation.

At the end of their row, Sharon recieved the flame from an usher and then turned to light Julianna's candle with her own. After a moment Julianna gazed at her own candle, radiating warmth that she brought to Christian's. She caught his gaze over the tiny flames and both smiled, unsure of why, other than the perfection of it all.

Soon the entire room was alight with tiny flames, bouncing in unstead hands and under the breath of those who waved their hands around them for warmth. A choir of twenty or so emerald robed men and women then stood at the front of the church and began singing again.

Now Christian sang Gloria in Excelsis Deo with a passion and a talent that left Julianna breathless. So many voices rose up around her and strained with adoration to make beautiful the sylables they sang. Time is lost when worlds and hearts are disregarding sleep and singing out praises

Too soon the moment was gone. The benediction spoken and people yawning out candles as they suffled out into the snow. She gently blew out her candle and passed it to Sharon for ushers who collected them at the ends of rows. Within minutes they were quietly wandering back to the cars, sleepily sliding into their seats and pulling away from the church. Undoubtedly Julianna and Louise dozed off on the ride back to the house, but luckly the cool air made Christian able to make his way back to Erin and John's home...

Yes, I too adore the Bale-ness ;) (esp in Newsies, and Swing Kids, and Equlibrium, and Little Women, and Batman Begins and... hey, did you know he was Thomas' voice in Pocahontas? eh hehehe)

Actually, I have a thing on the back of my truck that says "Swing Heil!" :laugh: I figure most people either think that it says "swing hell" or that I'm a Nazi though (which I am so not, of course) *shakes head* That is because they are silly and ill-educated in the aaammmaaazing Bale-filmography ;) Silly people.

(I'm probably going to add some sort of EQ quote as well, since I've been pondering it for a while :P)

I figure our problem is: 1. no cast call for them; I know that the only fics I really have time to read are the ones I'm either in, or are by Amber *laughs*
2. Not enough advertising. Banners are our friends.
3. They're not in the Lads or EW section. Very few people seem to go elsewhere on a regular basis, though I could be wrong *shrugs*

Right then, back to studying for gov't...*sigh*

Next to her Christian was listening carefully to the pastor, though the warmth and familiarity of the room was taking a toll on his consciousness. At one point he caught Jules watching him dozing off and made a face at her before sitting up straighter. The two laughed silently and Julianna never noticed his arm on the pew back behind her.

*laughs* Hmm, he's like me, lol. And aww, the arm behind the pew thing, hehe.

QUOTE
At the end of their row, Sharon recieved the flame from an usher and then turned to light Julianna's candle with her own. After a moment Julianna gazed at her own candle, radiating warmth that she brought to Christian's. She caught his gaze over the tiny flames and both smiled, unsure of why, other than the perfection of it all.

:wub: *le sigh* lol

This is really good, fris, I loved how you described everything in that last part, it gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling, hehe. Maybe because I've been to a candlelight service like that, haha. And the Narnia...*shakes her head* ahaha, that was great. I also really like how you're developing things between Christian and Jules, it's very believeable and paced well. :shine:

*laughs* You're so right about the reader thing! Hardly anyone goes into the OA section unless the story had a cast call, lol.

Yes, Narnia *snickers* Oh Pastor Steve, how we love you *laughs* (How long until we see it?! Did you start a countdown to Narnia on your phone yet!? C'mon! Hehe...)

So, erm *laughs* I'm a nerd and got Louise and Sharon mixed up in all my adding scenes and stuff, heh... :laugh:

Anyway, it was Sharon in the car with Christian and Julianna; not Louise (who was, in fact, in the same car as her fiance lol). And it's Louise who catches Christian's eye after he and Jules have that "moment" by the stairs ^_^ Just so everyone knows

Also loved the interaction between Julianna and Christian.
They are so adorable together....and Christians sister really has it all ready figured out.

And now for the cheesy ending to my fic :laugh: Well, hopefully not too cheesy, heh. Here you are lovelys, I hope you like it!...

~~~
Erin met them at the door, moving aside for Sharon who promptly flopped down on the couch and fell fast asleep. Once Julianna had changed back into her own clothes, which Erin had dried for her, Christian noted that they should probably get going if they were going to make it back to town before he fell asleep. Something about Christmas Eve dinners and candlelight sevices makes one more than ready to crawl under warm covers and dream of Narnia's within Narnias.
"Wait, wait," Erin rushed into the kitchen and came back out with two mugs of homemade cider, "Don't go yet." She handed one to each, along with a blanket for each of them, "Just go watch the snow and drink some cider before driving all the way into the city. The cold will wake you up." She then nodded, as if an expert on such things, and gestured for them both to step out onto the porch again.
A moment later they were both leaning over the porch raining, wrapping their fingers around their mugs to keep them warm. The snow fell silently over the ground, causing Julianna to hold her breath at times for all the quiet. How heavy the silence was, but in a gentle way. Across the street Jules could see several Christmas trees glowing in windows as children were told to go to sleep so the morning, and presents, would come sooner.
They stood in silence a while, just taking it all in, before Jules spoke up, "You're so different around them, it's crazy."
"What do you mean?" he questioned, watching her over his mug as he took a drink of his cider. He turned to face her as she spoke, his coat brushing snow off the railing as he leaned against it.
"In the newsroom you're always so professional..."
He smiled at this remark, "Yes well, some of us burn popcorn, and others of us swear at the weather." Jules turned and shot him a look at this, but he could tell by the amused look in her ocean coloured eyes that she was not actually annoyed.
"You're family's nice," Jules turned back to watching the snowfall, thinking of Christians niece and nephew climbing all over him. And his sisters including her, a stranger, into their meal. "It must be such a comfort to always have people to be ridiculous around," she teased, a slight smile finding its way to her lips, kept warm by the cider.
"I'll always be their kid brother," Christian mused, laughing over the whole of their childhood. Jules turned and caught his eyes with a smile at this, and the warmth in her look made him brave enough to reach out and brush a strand of hair from her eyes. "No matter how grown up I get."
Julianna bit her lip worriedly, tilting her head down to break the glance. "Christian..."
Before she could manage another word though, he had set down his mug and jumped over the railing. Another house on the street had turned on their lights, complete with his favourite sort of Christmas music. To break the creeping awkwardness he burst out into singing along with the player.
"I never cared much for moonlit skies
I never wink back at fireflies
But now that the stars are in you eyes
I'm beginning to see the light..."
Christian gestured for her to come out into the snow with him, and she set her mug down and followed warily. It poured over them, and Jules pulled the blanket closer around herself as she watched Christian sing along dramatically.
"I never went in for afterglow
Or candlelight on the mistletoe
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the light..."
Then he flopped down on the ground pulled Jules along with him, regardless of her protesting. Both fell back on the snow with a crunch and muffled laughter.
"What are you doing?" She held the blanket up over them like a tent, watching him curiously, "Is this the part where you kidnap me?"
"Shh..." he held his finger up to his lips, glancing at her with his own forrest eyes and then pointing up. He lay back on the snow and pulled her with him, so they were laying side by side, shivering and looking up at the stars. "Now tell me, if I had left you by your car, would you have seen the snow the same way as you do now?"
Jules gazed up, feeling unsure of whether she was lying still or falling into the sky. The snow floated down on them, and in spite of her shivering Jules managed a, "No." She smiled slightly at the thought, "I would probably still be swearing at it."
"Well then I'm glad I saved you from certain doom," Christian teased as he scooted closer to Jules and her blanket, not quite ready to admit how freezing he was. Jules smirked at his comment, but did not protest at the warmth he added to her own shivering body.
"You know, I was thinking..." he said a moment later. Jules tilted her head to look at him questioningly, "Yes?" She lay her head back down on his shoulder, neverminding the closeness for sake of warmth.
Much to her initial dismay, Christian then rolled onto his side next to her, meeting her gaze only a breath away, "Maybe we could take that trip to London?" He carefully ran his fingers along the outline of her face, his own forest eyes tracing along with them. Meeting her gaze again, losing his caution in her ocean eyes, Christian moved closer and kissed her. So gently did his lips meet her's that at times she would wonder if it had even been so.
But when he slowly parted his lips from her's, Julianna ran her own fingers delicatly through his sandy blond hair and smiled, "I think I would be okay with that."
"I'll be counting on that," he said softly, and then kissed her again...
Hey, sorry I wasn't reading this when you were still writting it. I loved this story, it was such a feel-good Christmas fic, I also love your writing style, it's just the right amount of detail to create the perfect image.
Now I'm in such a cheery Christmas mood, listening to music, sitting in a blanket and everything, haha. I hope you'll write other short stories, or start new stories. I often want to read people's fics but I can't bring myself to get caught up with them unless I read them straight from the beginning.
I really like how the fic was about Christian Bale, I really like him, especially in a Christmas setting (Little Women). What was the movie that he sang in? Newsies or something? I'd be very interested in seeing that.
I want to have a big family, but I had never even thought of how great Christmasses would be...
Thanks for the marshmellow(romantic/happy) Christmas feeling!
It's funny actually because, though I used the wonderous imdb.com to discover his sisters' names; my mum's family actually consists of three olders sisters and younger brother. And though my uncle isn't much like Bale *laughs* my aunts are fairly like the sisters in this fic. Plus, I described the inside of the house like my grandparents *grins*
Just thought I'd share *laughs*
That's so fun! It's so much easier to write fics about things you actually know about...like family and houses and stuff.
It was a lovely movie, though, I felt that it just baaaarely fell short of the: *dazed and in awe*-ness that I'd hoped for, which I got from the books. Alas, just goes to show that no movie can do Lewis real justice ;)
ps. Our pastor (at TUPC) actually is mad crazy in love with Narnia *laughs* He reads them all once a year and has been doing services involving the books hahaha... and, he does talk forever so he can say "Merry Christmas" at midnight; just my little tributes to Pastor Steve :laugh:
