Can't wait to read the rewrite...

Luvs,
Jinx!

~Jewelz~ - June 8, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
I am so not loved *weeps* (well, except by Jinxy lol). Perhaps an actual chapter will change that *hopes* I mean, I know it's been forever since the CC, but hopefully all the lovely ladies (teh heh, such an odd phrase) who answered it haven't completely forgotten me!

Welp, here's hoping...

~Chapter One~

“…and she’s a dead ringer for the living ghost
I fell in love with against the ash white walls
Of my first mental hospital…” -The Suicide Kings

Julianna Larson’s eyes lit up proudly as her friend Jason bowed dramatically after having finished reciting his second poem of the night. When he had straightened himself back up, he caught her gaze, smiling back at her. Everyone else's approval meant nothing next to the glint of understanding that he saw in her eyes. And it was as if neither could help but feel the applause as shallow due to the audience's narrow glimse into the poem's meaning. The crowd around them at the Poetry Slam cheered with enthusiastic applause, but they did not know, they could not know, all that went into Jason Behr’s words.

But Julianna knew. She and Jason had been close friends since the beginning of high school and had fought side by side through all the pain that produced the finished products that bystanders applauded. And now, as yet another crowd applauded yet another of his poems, Julianna could not help but feel a tad bit resentful that they could presume to know him as their cheers implied. Yet, she was so proud to see Jason securing another poetry prize that she simply brushed off the irritation and laughed as he strutted off the stage.

Jason kept her gaze as he made his way back to his seat, two chairs down, at which point Julianna tore her eyes away from him. He did not need to see the dejection in her ocean eyes as Andie pulled him into a kiss. Julianna chewed on her bottom lip as Jason’s long time girlfriend, Andie Coppola, praised him in the best way she had learned how. Ignoring the pain in her heart, Julianna continued to glance over the large crowd in Wutzel’s College of the Humanities’ Kaisen Theatre, (the smallest of their collection of on campus theatres), until Jason thought to call to her over the mutterings of the crowd.

"What did you think of it Jules?" He tilted his head toward the stage slightly, using the gesture to pull Julianna out of her thoughts. She blinked back to reality and turned to face him and Andie.

"Well," She touched her index finger to her chin slightly to show him, in a teasing way, that she was thinking, "the last stanza did lack just a bit." She grinned as Jason made a face at her comment, taking it as a cue to lay the joke on even thicker, "And your diction seemed a bit strained during the part where you say-"

"Oh Jules!" Andie broke in with a laugh, "Don't torment him!" Her hazel eyes sparkled with laughter as she shook her head at the two of them. "If you keep that up I'll have to do damage control all night. You know how big of a baby he is!" To this Jason pouted and Julianna forced an amused smile.

She couldn't help but notice the pang of jealousy that ripped through her whenever Andie was around. It wasn't that Jules wanted to be with Jason, that was something she had not wished for since the end of high school; there was just something about Andie that grated on her nerves. Something about the way she felt the need to kiss Jason playfully in the middle of conversation, and in her coy little smile, made Jules feel as if she should warn Jason.

But warn him of what? That was something Jules had been trying to put her finger on since the moment she had met Andie. How could she explain that, while Andie had never been cruel to her or Jason, Jules still did not trust her at all. Regardless, Jason believed himself to be in love with her, so Julianna bit back her reproach and forced pleasant conversation. She had even put up with a girl's night out or two with Andie, saved only by her sly way of convincing Andie that everything was more fun with more people, and in doing so managed to drag along one of her own friends.

"Jules?" Once again Julianna was snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of Jason's voice, "Really...What did you think of it?" His smile faded only enough to show her his interest in her real opinion.

She smiled, shoving away her unpleasant thoughts for a moment, "You know I loved it Jason. It's not as if you hadn't recited it aloud to me before!"

They both laughed a bit, remembering many a pre-Poetry Slam rehersal in the kitchen of Jules' appartment. Jason often told her that she made a good guinea pig because no matter how disruptive the audience was, they could never match up to her making faces and performing dramatic dance interpretations as he spoke. Julianna often thought, though never told, that she was glad to have a friend with whom she could act so strangely and yet never doubt his love for her.

"Thanks," Jason opened his mouth to continue his response, but Andie unknowingly broke into his works, "Jason, honey, you know that I think all of you work is amazing! You are so talented..." Her smile was begining to bother Jules again. She could feel that all to familar feeling creeping up on her again...

"-I'll be right back." Jules stood up suddenly, breaking into whatever Andie had been saying at the time. "I've got to find the bathroom before the next poet is up."

Jason nodded, "But you had better hurry. The break's almost over." He noted that several of the audience members were already finding their way back to their seats after wasting their money on diet colas and candy bars.

Jules made a face at the sight of them in all their irony, "Don't worry. I won't be gone long." She smiled reassuringly at Jason, but her smile was interrupted by Andie's reverting back to coy flirting when her poetry critque had not gained her the response she was looking for.

Jules' sigh to herself and turned to walk swiftly to the bathroom, as if she could out run the inevitable wave that made its way steadily toward her. She cringed as her thoughts spiraled downward, making her breath shorter and her search for privacy more and more desperate. When she finally slammed the door shut to the one-stall bathroom at the end of the long hall in the Kaisen Theatre, she breathed a sigh of relief. Now she could get this over with.

With all the detachment of an experienced cutter, Julianna calmly pushed back her sleeve and set the toilet lid down to sit on. She bit her lip anxiously while rumaging through her purse to find the one tiny blade that her roommate, Jasmine Elphinstone, had missed when she had gone through Jules' things the week before.

Julianna desperately shoved aside any thoughts of her friend, whom she knew would be intensely hurt by Julianna's own abuse of herself. One can't afford to let any more guilt in once they have decided on cutting themselves. Without serious calmness and self-controll, such an action could easily turn disasterous. It was all about damage control; if Julianna carved a few scratches into her pale arm now, she would not have to deal with screaming at Andie later.

This was all a blatantly lie though, and though Jules knew that, she ignored the fact. She had also become an expert at convincing herself that a few drops of blood in advance could save her from later pain. Pain that would be too intense to survive again. But the fact of the matter was that every night Julianna went to sleep with an aching heart, ashamed of what she had done and the knowledge that she would certainly do it again.

Lies and truths mattered little though, as Julianna brought the blade to her skin. She knew that the thoughts that invaded her mind and enticed her to more lies and more blood; they were lies. Which was why the tears would finally come as she dabbed away the bits of blood from her arm afterward. Why had she listened again? Why had she fallen short of her will again? But even such questions had to be ignored, to save from further cuts across once innoncent skin.

Jules drew in a shuddered breath and moved to return the bathroom to normal, putting up the toilet seat lid and hiding her stained tissues in the garbage can with newpaper clippings glued to it. She washed her tears away in the sink and calmly reapplied her lip liner and gloss, assuring herself that her tears had only made her eyes bluer. She stared hard at her reflection for a moment, allowing the evident pain in her eyes time to fade back into the depths of her ocean eyes.

And then she stepped back out of the bathroom and turned to face her world again.

You're such a good writer. I love it friend.

I really enjoy rereading this. It's been a long time since I read the original and even then I came in late and had to hurry to catch up.

You are loved! People are just slow at responding, that's all...

Luvs,

I didn't forget!

I was just waiting for you to post more before I said anything. I've been waiting patiently. I'm being pretty bad to my fans right now, stupid writer's block.

Oh my! I was wondering if you were going to post this, I kept hoping you would.

I am so happy to read something of yours, after all this time. I really love your style, it flows extremely well, and you have a way with descriptions. I could totally picture myself there with them. Great job!

Jules is already a very intriguing character. Her relationship with Jason seems interesting, but I worry about her feelings towards Andie. Is it all in Jules's mind...or, is there something suspicious about Andie's behavior?

And then, what a sad shocker at the very end. It is so horrible that she cuts herself to deal with her pain. Hopefully, her friends can help her out?

I really enjoyed this chapter, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Amber

*beams* Amber complimented me :D *laughs* Thanks hun!

Perhaps I should start writing this again (I've only got 7 chapters done) It's just kind of stressful because I want it to be better than the original, not just slightly different y'know? And I've got this dream scene that really bugs that crud out of me, but I'll get through it ;) Hehehe...

More soon... hopefully hehe...

Allo :) Here's another chapter for my lovely readers :D...
(I still haven't decided if I'm going to redo Andie and Amber's banners yet, which is why they aren't up. But it shouldn't be too long :) I hope... hehe...)

~Chapter Two~

"Ahh!!" Jules let out a cry as she ran smack into someone right outside the bathroom door. She slipped and managed to sandwitch herself in the doorway, letting out another cry as the corner of the wall dug into her back.

"Oh-my-gosh-are-you-okay!?" The woman that Jules had nearly run into jumped foward to pull her out of the doorway. She grabbed onto Jules' arms just as she was about to slide pitifully to the floor and pulled her back to a standing position. "I am so sorry!" the woman laughed apologeticly, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." The woman had no way of knowing that she had grabbed on to the part of Jules arm that was freshly cut, and Jules had been holding her breath, her full attention set on praying that she hadn't started bleeding again. The last thing she needed was to bleed all over a stranger and raise questions. Without another word, Jules quickly pulled her arm out of the woman's grapse and backed away, attempting to regain her composer.

"Are you sure?" The woman eyed her warily, her gentle brown eyes searching Jules' face curioiusly. She could tell something wasn't quite right, aside from their run in.

"Yes," Jules nodded, suddenly feeling bad for reacting the way she had, "I'm sorry, I should have been watching where I was going! Jason's always joking that if I spent any more time up in the clouds I'd get it in my head not to come back. I...." Jules trailed off, embarassed at how she had just started babbling to a complete stranger.

The woman laughed, an amused smile forming across her face, "Ah! My boyfriend is always telling me things like that too." She winked at Jules, "I make it a point of never listening to him."

"Oh!" Jules cringed, "Jason isn't my boyfriend!"

The women continued to laugh at Jules' flustered state, "Don't worry about it hun, I wasn't promising you to him or anything." When Jules just stared at her blankly, the woman stretched out her hand, "I'm Amber by the way. Amber Doucet."

Jules muffled a snicker, but couldn't help but comment, "You should have said it the other way: Bond. James Bond." Her ocean eyes were begining to regain their sparkle at the chance to joke about movies with someone.

"Well James Bond, it's good to meet you!" Amber teased, shaking Julianna's hand.

Julianna finally laughed, begining already to forget herself from a moment ago, "No no, my name is Julianna."

"Just Julianna, with no last name? Like Madonna, or Cher?" Amber shook her head at the heightening ridiculousness of their conversation, but couldn't help but continue with it. "Maybe Dommy could play his guitar and you could sing for us Julianna."

Julianna shook her head to this idea, but her smile neglected to fade, "Oh no, that's okay. I'll let you sing with your boyfriend and-"

Amber burst into laughter again, shaking her head, "Hun! We need to stop assuming things of each other or this is going to cause some serious problems!" Jules rose an eyebrow at Amber, sufficiently sending the message of her confusion. "Dom's not my boyfriend," Amber corrected her.

"Oh." Jules shrugged, "Well, it was nice to run into you Amber." She smiled a bit, mentally noting the pun. "But I had better get back to the Slam before Jason-who-is-not-my-boyrfriend finds out that I've missed a few poets."

Amber smiled and, with a nod, stepped aside to let Jules past her into the hall, "Nice to meet you too Julianna. I hope we run into each other again soon!"

Jules shook her head and started back down the hallway. Just as Amber could never know what panic she had initially cause by grabbing Jules' arm, she also never know how much good she had done by making Julianna smile. Smiling was not something she did without good reason, especially when she was in her darker places.

"Jeez Jules, it took you long enough to go to the bathroom!" Andie giggled, teasing Jules in a whisper as she slipped back into her seat. "Did you fall in or something?"

"Right Andie, I fell in," Jules made a face at Andie, which caused Andie to burst into giggles and earned them both a shushing from Jason. "Quiet! These are the last two poets!" Julianna stuck her tongue out at Jason before settling back into her seat and drawing her attention back to the poets.

Yey! It's so cool that you're posting this story. I had no idea what it was about before but I never thought it would be this good. There's such a variety of emotion whether it's Jules cutting herself or her messing around with Jason.
That conversation between Amber and Jules was totally done with girly-style! It reminded me of random conversations with people and how 'rambly' they are!
It's very realistic and intriguing and even the fact that they're at a Poetry recital thingy is cool and unusual.

Blondie - June 15, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
Well, I have to say, I am hooked. I'm very intrigued by the character of Jules. Why does she feel the need to cut? What is she hiding? What pain is she harboring?

This is an interesting situation, the whole Jules and Jason who is not her boyfriend but it seems as if there is some type of chemistry between them. Besides, why else would Jules feel that way about Andie if she didn't have feelings for Jason?

Amber, now she seems like a sweet girl. Close call there for Jules though, with Amber grabbing her freshly cut arm.

I have a feeling there paths will cross again.

I'm so excited, I can't wait to see where this all goes.

Darn classes - keeping you from writing. That sucks.

But I will be here, waiting as patiently as I can for more story goodness. -_-

~Jewelz~ - June 21, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
No more classes. My mum (who was paying for them lol) and I realized that $700 + was too much friggin money to be spending on classes that I could be taking next spring (which is already paid for with loans and scholarship $). So yea, no more classes.

Hopefully now I'll actually write! *laughs* And for that, I shall now post chapter 3 for you, my lovely readers :)....

~Chapter Three~

As lights flashed on after the last poet recited, Julianna paused in her applause to shield her eyes from the blinding light and glance around. Andie continued to yell and clap even after the last poet stepped off the stage, until finally Jason gently but quickly pulled her down into her seat in response to the annoyed looks Julianna was shoot him.

Jules sighed in annoyance and glanced at her watch, "Yuck, after midnight." She stood up in order to drawn Jason's attention away from Andie, "Hey guys, I have a class at 8 am, so I'd better be heading off to my appartment."

"Aw, c'mon Jules, it's barely midnight-" Jason started, but Andie broke in, her voice filled with astonishment as she looked across the room, "Oh. My. Gawd." Jules and Jason both turned to see what it was that was suddenly so facinating, only to see a group of people. Julianna smiled when she recognized Amber as the only female in the group, and as she glanced around she suddenly figured out what had so facinated Andie.

Two words: Dominic Monaghan. The rock star.

The same rock star that Julianna was sure she had seen plastered all over the tabloid magazines that lay all over her kitchen counter at home. Jasmine had a thing for tabloids that Jules had never really understood, but none the less, there he was. So he was the "Dom" that Amber had mentioned earlier; interesting. Suddenly Julianna was struck by the terrifying feeling that Andie might start screeching and tackle him. Fortunatly for all three of them, Julianna tended to judge Andie even harsher than she may have deserved.

"What are you talking about Andie?" Jason turned back to his dumbfound girlfriend, obviously still confused over who was suddenly the object of her undivided attention. Andie just blinked in response, horribly star struck.

"It's the guy in the Clash t-shirt." Julianna pointed out with a smirk. "If it isn't Lloyd Dobler in disguise," she added smugly to herself. When the utterly confused look remained on Jason's face, Julianna continued, "Dominic Monaghan. He use to be a rock star or something."

"Isn't that the guy that just started giving private guitar lessons at Wurtzel?" Jason asked, recalling having read his name on one of the many bulitins posted in the lobby of Kaisen Theatre.

"Beats me," Julianna shrugged, "But I met the girl with him on my way back from the bathroom," No need to mention that meeting her had included running smack into her

Andie snapped her head back toward Jules, “You mean you know them?” Her big hazel eyes widened at the prospect. Jules eyed Jason warily as she swung her bag over her shoulder, daring him to deal with his girlfriend.

“Oh my gosh Julianna,” Andie spoke so quickly that Jules had to bite back a comment about New Yorkers, “I can’t believe you know someone over there and you’re not even going to introduce us! Let’s go over there now, I promise I won’t embarrass you!”

Without another word she hooked her elbow into Jules and started pulling her toward the group. Jules shot Jason a look of slight desperation, but he just smiled smugly at her predicament. Within moments they were closing the distance between the groups, and without thinking Jules shot out her free hand and grabbed onto a nearby chair, “I really would rather n-“

Unfortunately for Julianna, the theatre had chosen to invest in chairs they could move around to accommodate different sets for their various performances. Jules’ sudden stopped had caused Andie to turn and trip over another rogue chair, and both girls let out a scream as they tumbled into a heap on the floor in the midst of Andie’s original targets.

"Having a bad day Julianna?" Amber's laughing face came into view slowly as Jules shook her head to clear her vision. The man to Amber's right reached down and picked Andie off the floor, smiling in his own friendly way, "You should be more careful there love, we wouldn't want you to get hurt," His Scottish accent would have melted Andie directly back onto the floor had he not still been holding her up by the elbows.

Julianna groaned and pressed her palm to the side of her head. What a way to make a first impression, she grumbled to herself, hardly noticing when the man to Amber's left in turn reached down to help her up. Hardly noticed him, that is, until she was eye level with the most amazing sapphire eyes she had ever seen. "Huh- Hello," she stuttered stupidly, still stunned a bit from her fall.

The man laughed at her awkwardness, causing his eye to appear even bluer, if such a thing was possible. "Hello to you too," his smile was contagious, in spite of Julianna's embarassment. "I'm Elijah," he added as Jules removed herself from his grip and stepped back next to Amber to complete the circle.

Amber put her arm around Jules' shoulder and hugged her, "This is Julianna. She doesn't have a last name."

The man who had helped Andie up held out his hand to shake Jules', "I'm Billy Boyd," his Scottish accent made even Jules blush, "I'd offer you mine, but I don't think Amber would appriciate that much."

"You're what?" Jules shot him a confused look.

"My last name," Billy laughed, curling his arm around Amber's waist the moment she had let go of Julianna. Ah, Julianna noted, so he's the boyfriend. Having already been introduced to everyone else in the circle, Jules then directed her glance carefully at Dominic, who had suddenly become very interested in the paintings that covered the back wall of the theatre.

Having decided not to bother with someone so obviously ignoring her, Jules then turned to Andie to introduce her. By then Jason had made his way to the group as well, and was holding a still very starstruck Andie up by wraping his arms around her waste, his chin resting on her left shoulder.

"These are my friends, Jason Behr and Andie Coppola." Jason took that opportunity to step forward and shake hands with the three previously introduced persons of the group. Andie then finally spoke up, lifting her voice and smiling coyly in an attempt to draw Dominic's attention, "And you are?"

It was then that Dominic finally paused his study of the painting and looked Andie up and down. Billy broke the awkard silence Dom had caused by introducing him, "That's Dom. He's a grump." Dom shot him a glare in response to his teasing, but Billy just ignored it and continued to smily happily.

"Dominic Monaghan," Dom reached out his hand to grapse Andie's outstretched hand and shook it. He then shook Jason's hand, his manner losing a bit of its hostility, and turn to Julianna. "Julianna," he repeated her name as he shook her hand, keeping eye contact only a moment before droping her hand and turning back to his paintings.

Elijah shot Dom a frustrated look, which he naturally did not notice, before turning back to Julianna, "So then, did you enjoy the Poetry Slam?"

Jules smiled sweetly at his proper manner, "Yes, I did, very much-" Her sentence was broken off by a yawn that had managed to escape. She held the back of her hand up to her mouth to cover the yawn, once again embarassed, and glanced again at her watch, "But, oh, it's really late, and I have an early class tomorrow."

"Me too," Andie noted, though her voice was barely audible to her audience.

"Right," Jules nodded, "So, it was really nice to meet all of you, but we had better get going." Amber hugged Jules once again in the same manner as before, "Hopefully the next time we meet you won't have to sustain any injuries," she teased. She then added that the most certainly needed to get together for lunch some time, "To chat about James Bond and such," she added with a giggle, and exchanged phone number with Julianna.

Jules and her two friends then said goodnight to the group and headed out of the theater, separating outside the door for Jules to walk back to her appartment (which was just a minute or two of walking away, else Jason would have insisited on driving her), and Jason and Andie headed to Jason's truck.

"Well, they were interesting enough," Billy noted with a smile, kissing Amber affectionately on the hand when she yawned. "But I had better get you home too."

"Mmm..." Amber smiled in response. Elijah kept his gaze on the door that their new aquaitences had just exited and breathed, "My gawd, she has some amazing eyes doesn't she?"

"Yes she does." Dominic mumbled to himself, trailing behind the group as he still studied the paintings.

Greatness! I like the simpleness of the banners. It's a lot better than the banners I make up. I think I'm getting some type of photoshop soon though *crosses fingers* I could make better ones if I had the technology and the knowledge teehee. Great Chapter hunni. I can't wait for Chapter 4. ~Alli~

*whispers* Guess what! *ends whisper*

I am squealingly in love with this fic! It is so great and enjoyable to readddd! I have become addicted, and this means that I will be whiningly annoying and beg for updates nonstop! eeeee!

Love all the introductions scene. Elijah seems sweet, and me plus Billy made me giddy. But, I must say, Dom's behavior has me curious. Why is he such a potty lad, I wonder?

That part was just so cute! You have a very good talent at writing witty and fun conversations between your characters.

hmm, so Dom is not as oblivious as I previously thought. I'm quite pleased with the noticing of Jules's eyes.

Oh yeah, Rock Star Dom makes me become filled with joy! ;-)

I love this story! I insist you must write more soon.

BAH! I HATE that song! With a serious passion! As in HATE HATE HATE it! *shudders* So much that I go around singing it in that annoying tone just so people will ask me what the heck I'm doing so I can complain about it! Agh! It's terrible! I mean, really, someone PLEASE write them a new song!!

Perhaps entitled "Moster eats the piolet"

*bursts into hysterical laughter* Or something like that...

AH! Jules met "The Group." If Dom's a rockstar (wow) I wonder what the rest of them are....*floats off in magical fantasy where they're all nake....* - annnnnd never mind!

What's Dom's problem? Billy said he was grumpy but he was just being plain darn rude and not just grumpy. His little comment at the end has got me intrigued.

Can't wait to see how this all develops.

"Moster Ate the Pilot"! That's hilarious...makes me want to go write some lyrics and send it to them...
