Description: She loves what she hates

Hey guys!
This is the short story I posted at EWFN. Three chapters long. I originally wrote this in swedish and my teacher totally loved it. This contains very little language, other than that it might scare you off by it's cheesiness. I don't think you even need a warning.

To Love What You Hate

*~*Chapter One*~*

I wish I could touch you once
and you could look into my eyes.
I would feel so good within,
and I would ignore all the lies.
I wish I could say "I love you" .
I wish you could know how I feel deep inside.
I wish my words could reach you now
I would jump tall buildings,
and fly high in the sky,
I would love you always,
and never ask why.
But yet you do not know
of what I feel.
For I havn't told you,
thats quietly sealed.
But i'd I part my lips
and tell you words so true,
The first thing I would say
is "I love only you"
- Melody

Everytime the bell rings at three, he's standing by my locker; the rucksack tossed over his shoulders and the brown hair in a tenacious muddle. He's holding my keys in that pestering way right in front of my face.
"Give me the keys." I murmur. He keeps them within my grasp, probably knowing I'll never have the courage to take them, swinging his hand back and forth as if trying to hypnotize me.
"Why should I give them to you?" He asks, sounding somewhat amused. His eyes pierce me, staggering me with the enmity stored within those blue pools of ice. What did I ever do to deserve this? His friends are standing behind him and the one with braces pulls the backpack off my shoulders.
"Please." I sough. His eyes seem to alleviate a little, noticing my self esteem submerging to the pit of my stomach. The keys are dangling right in front of me but when I reach out for them he suddenly gives me a fierce push and I painfully knock into the lockers behind me. Immense pain spreads across my back into my head. Great, a headache is just what I need.

When I look up they're gone. My belongings are dispersed across the floor. I start collecting them into my bag. The words "Cunt", "Bitch" and "Whore" are written across the backpack, but I don't care, I just toss it into the locker. The only thing I treasure are the keys now in my left palm. I close my eyes and caress them slowly.

He touched them.

His fingers held these keys that I touch everyday. He kept them in his hand and thought of me. I will never forget him, no matter what he does. The muddled brown hair and those piercing, celestial blue eyes.
Why must I love him?

*~*~*~*~*~*

"The girl in the corner? I hate her. She disgusts me. She's so fucking ugly." Elijah turns around to emit an obnoxious glance at the girl. A sharp glance towards the girl who's sitting in the corner, and has turned herself into a small ball staring out of the window. She doesn't recieve it, doesn't even catch a glimpse of him hating her. It aches within him as she eats him from the indside.

His friends grin.

"We hate her too." They tell him. Elijah laughs coarsely, the same laugh his reflection gives him every morning. Inside he's crying. Slow tears dedicated to the girl that sleeps in his heart.

*~*~*~*~*~*

He stands with the small piece of paper clenched in his hand. "I love only you." it says. It's a beautiful letter. A letter that aches immeasurably for so does love, always. Melody, Melody, Melody. His diary contains only one name. He knows that she loves him too. They love each other. Why must it be that way? Why does love exist? Elijah pulls out another piece of paper, creased several times and wrinkled out of his pocket.

I gaze at the hands
That make your body brittle
Caress those fingers
Slowly about to wither
Inhale your divine touch,
The smell recklessly lush
Loving the gasps
Dedicated to me
You're slipping out of my grasp
Obscurity crawls closer
Death has rolled it's dice,
Telling me you are my demise.
How could I leave you slowly to vanish?
And forget to love,
Only to perish
Forgive Me.

He carefully places it in her bench.

*~*Chapter Two*~*

And I'd give up forever to touch you
cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closes to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

*chorus*
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
All the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

*chorus*
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

- Goo Goo Dolls "Iris"

Melody finds the note first thing in the morning. She turns herself into that small ball before the days first lesson, holds the wrinkled piece of paper in her right hand, tracing the sentences with her index finger as if afraid the letters might vanish, escape from her mind to never be recollected again. Her big eyes shimmer and her crimson lips nearly form a subtle smile, yet to the eye of the beholder her face looks neutral. She doesn't know who wrote it, maybe she doesn't care or doesn't want to know. Someone's probably making fun of her, Melody presumes. Strange. Is all that strikes her. This is Strange.

Unexpectedly the paper is towed out of her grasp, she gives out a shrill cry in shock. It's the guy with braces. Elijah's friend. While laughing he reads, almost clamours it out for the world to hear. All his friends including Elijah gather around him, laughing harshly. The sentences aren't as beautiful anymore. Melody gives out a faint sob but shuts her eyes determined to not weep. The voices keep cultivating and the pushing savage. The fun soon ends with the letters laying scattered across the floor, the paper torn to pieces. Elijah stares enchanted by her face, the dark eyelashes are such a strong contrast to her fair, white skin. Open your eyes, Melody. Open your beauiful eyes to that I can see you. Suddenly her hazel eyes flutter open only to puncture his whole being with one cold glance.
I hate you, she's telling him. I love you.
If she only knew who wrote that poem.

*~*~*

He's sitting in the seat behind her as the bus start rolling. The damn bus to the fucking school trip. The smell of her soft, dark hair overwhelms his senses at every intake of breath, the smell lush. He leans closer to inhale the special girl but feels the suspicious glances of people all around him and swallows hard. No one, not one soul is allowed to know that he loves Melody. He leans back onto his seat and tries to unsuccessfully erase her from his mind.

There are four cottages with six people in each. The teachers announced that the girls live with the girls, same thing for the guys.
Elijah sneaks from cabin to cabin, curiously searching for Melody. He finally finds her sitting in one of the six beds, inclining to the wall, her dark eyes shut. She lives in the fourth cabin close to the water. He lives in the first, next to the woods.
Elijah rushes back to his cottage before anyone sees him. As he enters he hears that they're already planning the evening. Who'll be tossed into the water and who'll be inebriated and fall apart right in front of the teachers. Elijah plasters a smiles upon his face.
"Tonight," The boy with braces whisperes hazily. "Tonight we'll go swimming."

When the teachers have finally gone to sleep everyone else sneaks down to the water. Everyone, including Melody. She's almost emitting a soft, bashful flickering light that clarifies a barely visible bliss. Elijah wades into the shallow water as the others watch him, all insecure of what to do. He suddenly turns a 180 degrees and runs back to dry land, picks up a random girl and tosses her over his shoulder.

"Let me go!" She giggles joyfully. He throws her into the water and watces her grinning face disappear under the surface. He notices Melody from the corner of his eye. She's wearing a captivating black bathing suit, standing about twenty feet away. Elijah watches her dance into the water. The guy with braces laughs garishly. Why is he laughing? Elijah wonders. She's consummate. But he still joins his friend and points at her. She doesn't even glimpse at them but continues swimming in her own pace as if they were just shadows or figments of her past. Elijah suddenly feels his hand grasping her wrist, she tries to wriggle loose but it's too late. He fels her breath against his face as he holds her tightly.

"Let go!" She pleads. He places his hands upon her head and thrusts her under the surface. He feels silence engulfing the air, everything turns cold. He holds her under the water, she isn't even trying to save herself. The guy with braces seems worried.
"Take it easy Elijah!"
"What are you doing? Don't you get it? She can't breathe!" Yells another.
"Let her go!" Someone clamours and he does so. She sails out of the water and smiles in triumph. Elijah becomes mute.
"You thought I was going to die, didn't you?" She asks him, then turns around and wades towards shore, the others follow her leaving him alone in the now freezing night. Elijah stands as if carved in stone and looks up towards the cabins, the woods and the stars beyond them. I feel so empty. He whisperes before walking back towards dry land.
