Title: Yesterday

Just Peachy - February 21, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
Hi there!

Well, this is my first fan fiction here at EWAC, and I must admit that I'm a bit self-conscious about posting this here. Please, share any feedback you may have because that's what keeps me functioning. ^_^

Anyway, I believe the "legal mishmash" would come next, so...

Title: Yesterday

Rating: PG15 (although I don't expect it to go higher, if it does there will be a warning)

Disclaimer: I am not associated with any of the actors/actresses that may appear in this fiction. The plot and other characters, however, are rightfully mine. The song (Yesterday by The Beatles) is merely used as a tagline and possibly a nice addition later on in the story, but this fiction is not based around it and it is not a song-fic. This story is copyrighted to me {Tahni or Just Peachy}.

Prologue

We all know that there are consequences for our wrong actions. It’s a known fact, that no matter how long it takes, you will eventually get what you deserve. This rases the question of what is it about the human mind that allows you to forget about the punishments and results, even though you are completely aware of them? It is a question that may never be answered. Even if you experience it yourself, there is nothing that can completely explain exactly why you did what you did.

Although everyone eventually experiences this, these types of “compromised situations” occur twice as often when the opposite sex is involved. This is where most men mess up– big time. Don’t get me wrong, women make their mistakes too, but I’m speaking from experience.

Sometimes, it seems as though the man’s mind is programmed to do something wrong– to forget about picking up their wet towels off of the floor, or leaving the toilet seat up. There’s something about us that is pre-destined to make the special women in our lives completely furious with us. There is no possible way to escape the specially designed faults we were created with, or so it seems. At least, that’s the average man.

I, however, have managed to far exceed above and beyond all typical males. I am living proof that some people don’t understand everything that they have been blessed with. I am living proof that I wouldn’t know a good thing from a marshmallow. And I am living proof that there are people out there– men and women alike– who astronomically screw it up.

Once all is said and done, and you’re finally stepping back to see the big picture, you realize that you aren’t as indestructible as you first thought. You begin to see the damage you have done, and the consequences that have your name written all over them. Then, there is the moment you realize all the people you have hurt.

When you look back to all the pain you saw in her eyes but decided to ignore, all the things you should have said, and all the things you should have done, you begin regretting all the days you spent so ignorantly. All the mistakes you made suddenly become incredibly apparent to you, and you see how you have changed. You notice that you aren’t the same person as before– you’ve changed for the worst.

It has to be the hardest part of the entire process when you begin wishing that you could just go back in time and fix what you ruined. That’s when you realize it’s impossible to do so, and maybe you should have thought of all this before you went in your own direction. Coming to terms with these facts is a hard thing to do– but there’s a point where you must accept that no matter how hard you pray, or how hard you try, there’s no erasing yesterday...

Let me know what you think! Hopefully the first chapter will be longer...

Wow. I'm not good with putting into words what I feel when I'm reading, so I appoligise in advance. This begining is so kewl. Really is. It sets the scene really well while still leaving us wanting more. Who is this person that messed up? What exactly has he done? And set the scene that this fic is about mistakes. The begining was really powerful and very true. I love your style of writting so far. You definetly have a tallent . I look forward to reading more soon.

Huggles well done for getting over the first bump. Posting that is. It's so scary. But this is fantastic, so please don't loose heart, and post more.

Welcome Stacy and Blondie! Thanks so much for reading and for you comments!

Now, I present to you, the first chapter....

Chapter One

“Would you please stay and practice with me, Lando?” she whined. “Please, please, please?”

Orlando Bloom glanced up at his gorgeous co-star, hesitating for a moment. “I should really get home to Brynn,” he replied after a few seconds had passed.

Jessica pouted as fiercely as possible and batted her thick, brown eyelashes. “Pretty please? It won’t take long, I promise! I just can’t seem to get this one line, and going over it myself doesn’t help me.”

“I promised her I’d be home–”

“She’ll understand,” she continued. “Like I said, it won’t be long.”

He had promised Brynn ten o’clock, just like he always did. Now, he would compromise the time for someone else– just like he always did. “Fine, but we have to make this fast, love. Last night you kept me here until after two in the morning, and I don’t want to do that again.”

“No problem. It’ll be a quicky,” Jessica replied with a brilliantly white grin.

Searching the trailer for his script, Orlando took a while before sitting down on the couch next to Jessica. He faced her and began flipping through the pages. “What part are you having trouble with, Jess?”

“Um, page fifty-nine, line three,” she answered. “Where Alyssa says ‘Don’t be a stranger’.”

“That’s the line you can’t get?”

“Yes.”

It was a simple line– a common line. Orlando couldn’t understand how Jessica was unable to get it, but he ignored that fact and concentrated on his part. He played Everett, the lead across from Jessica. They had been working together for the last three weeks, and some sort of problem seemed to rise almost every night.

“Okay, then my part would be... lets see... alright, I got it.” He waited as Jess tucked her script under her legs so she wouldn’t be tempted to peek, then began. “It’s getting late. I should really get going.

Don’t.... not come around? Ugh, what is it?” she huffed in frustration.

“It’s ‘Don’t be a stranger’. Just cool down, Jess, you’ll get it. Let’s try again.” He cleared his throat. “It’s getting late. I should really get going.

Hey, stranger– wait, no. Man, I’m such a moron!” Jessica criticized herself, slapping a hand to her forehead.

“You’re not a moron. Sometimes lines just don’t stick,” Orlando tried to comfort.

The sentiment didn’t seem to help her. She probably felt pressured and stressed, since she seemed to be somewhat of a worry-wart. Orlando knew that if he didn’t get her to ease up, they would never get out of there. All he wanted to do was go home after the long day of shooting and collapse into bed.

“I remember my first play,” he tried again. “The line was ‘Sit tight, I’ll be right back’, and for the love of God I could not remember that bloody thing. I got so worked up over it that I neglected the rest of my lines and forgot them all... or at least most of them. It happens to the best of us, love, so you just need to relax and don’t worry about having the line perfect.”

Jess giggled and placed a hand on his knee.. “Thanks, Lando”

His gaze drifted down to where her hand was gently placed. An uneasy feeling washed over him as he pulled his leg away and gathered his papers together. “Maybe we can work on this tomorrow morning, love. I don’t think this was such a good idea.”

As he rose to leave, Jessica grabbed his arm to stall him. “Lando, wait. I’m sorry–”

“No. I’ll see you tomorrow, Jessica.” He needed to leave immediately. He wouldn’t go home another night with the smell of another woman’s perfume on him– he couldn’t do that to Brynn again. She was a good sport about it every time, but it broke Orlando’s heart to see her face when it occurred.

“Orli, please!”

“I have to go.”

Before he could protest, Jessica cut him off in front of the trailer door. She snaked her hand behind his neck to hold him close, making it difficult for him to pull away. That’s when it happened– she crushed her mouth against his, refusing to let him go.

Orlando stepped back the second he was released from her grip, his mind running a million miles a minute. He stared at her in shock, wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand and trying to think of a coherent thing to say. All he wanted to do was yell at her and tell her to never touch him again, but he couldn’t. Only one little word in his mind stood out through all the chaos swirling through his head: Brynn. “That was not in the script,” he finally managed to force out past the lump in his throat.

“I know,” Jess smirked. “But it’s what you wanted, isn’t it?”

“Does it look like that’s what I wanted?” Orlando demanded, motioning towards his stunned expression that still remained.

“Well, no, not now. Earlier though, you seemed... I don’t know... you seemed like you were hinting at it.”

“I have never hinted anything to you!” he yelled.

“Yes, you have! Almost every night for the last three weeks you have stayed here with me to help with the script or with practicing scenes instead of going home to your wife, Orlando. Are you trying to tell me that I shouldn’t have taken something from that?” she yelled back.

He didn’t answer, but instead grabbed his coat and headed out of the trailer. If that’s how the situation looked to Jessica, how did it look to Brynn? He needed to get home right away, he needed to straighten everything out. All those nights, he knew he should have gone home to his wife, but he never really thought about what he was doing. Now that he took a good look at the big picture, he realized what an idiot he had been.

“Don’t walk away from me when I’m talking to you, Orlando! You know I’m right, and you just don’t want to admit it,” Jessica sneered at him, following closely as he walked to his car.

He still didn’t reply. The interior light of the car went on when it unlocked, and Orlando climbed inside, closing the door behind him. The doors locked automatically once he had the car started, and he eased around Jessica. He may have been angry with her, but he wasn’t the type to run people over.

A horrible clenching feeling captured his heart the entire way home. Instant replays of what happened reeled through his mind and the thought of betrayal flashed in his soul. Although he had not been the person to initiate anything, it was still his fault– and he knew it. Why hadn’t he seen it before? Only one solution stood out in his mind...he would tell Brynn everything that had happened, and then go from there. There may not be anyway to take back the last three weeks, but he would try with all his might to make up for them.

The soft glow from the TV was the only thing illuminating the room. Tissues littered the floor while the annual Chick-Flick Fest played on, like it had ever since seven that morning. Brynn was seated on her bed, dabbing her eyes with a tissue as An Affair to Remember played before her eyes. She rolled her eyes at what a silly sap she was, which only caused her to cry harder.

A buzz sounded over the intercom, announcing Orlando’s return home. Brynn glanced at the clock, making note that it was eleven thirty, then set her tissue box to the side. She frantically felt over the surface of the bed for the remote, and turned the television off once she found it. Some of the tissues were pushed off the bed, while others were just left where they were, and Brynn pulled the covers up to her shoulders. Just as the door to the bedroom opened, she closed her eyes and evened her breathing.

She heard every soft step he took towards the master bathroom. The light switched on and he brushed his teeth quickly before turning the light off again. Now she heard him softly padding across the carpet, and the familiar weight on his side of the bed returned. She always slept more soundly when Orlando was there.

He slid towards her, snuggling up against her body with an arm draped over her side. Brynn didn’t settle into his arms like she used to, or take his hand in hers. She simply stayed in the same tense position she had been in, refusing to give in to his loving warmth. The minute she succumbed, everything would be alright– but everything wasn’t alright. It would just be a facade waiting to be shattered the next time he didn’t keep a promise or left her at home wondering where he was. She did it before, but her fragile heart wasn’t strong enough for it anymore.

Schmooie730 - February 26, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
Oh no!!! Poor Brynn! I don't like Jessica much right now, and I do kind of feel sorry for Orlando. This is awesome hun!

Wow, what an excellent introduction into their relationship. You really have a lovely way of writing, it is quite enjoyable to read!

This line made me cringe. If he realizes that he always compromises his time with Brynn for another, he should fix it.

This part was so sad! Poor Brynn, she shouldn't have to deal with him choosing others over her. He needs to straighten things out and be a better husband.

Great chapter! I shall look forward to more.

Hm...that is odd...thought I had responded to the new chapter...but I see no reply from me. Curious...very curious.

Anyway...eeeeek...this relationship between Orlando and Brynn doesn't seem to be all lovey dovey right at the moment.

Eeep. I'm horrible at updating, I should have put that as a warning in the beginning of this.

Thank you so much for all your replies! They're wonderful, and you're wonderful, and the support for this fic really means a lot.

Now that I've gotten myself back into gear, here is the next chapter...

Chapter Two

The smell of freshly brewed coffee and baking scones awoke Orlando from his restless sleep. By the smell of all the delicious breakfast, he didn’t have to reach over to tell that Brynn was already up. Slowly, Orlando pushed the covers off of him and sat up. He rubbed his eyes then headed towards the bathroom to get rid of his horrible morning breath.

After brushing his teeth and deciding that the “minty freshness” that Colgate advertised apparently didn’t apply to him, he walked across the hall and down the stairs until he reached the kitchen. Just as he had expected– warm scones were cooling on large cookie sheets, and amazingly tasty Columbian coffee sat ready to be consumed. Orlando looked around for the source of it all, and spotted her by the stove.

Brynn nearly hit him with the hot skillet she was cooking with when she felt his strong arms encircle her waist. Usually, she was alone all morning until he rushed out the door to work, so the sudden presence had scared her out of her skin. She managed to hold her tongue– and her skillet– and continued cooking her scrambled eggs.

“‘Morning, love,” Orlando greeted huskily. His hand found the edge of her shirt, her stomach twitching with every movement he made over it.

“Not now, Orlando,” Brynn admonished, pushing his hand away. She sidestepped to the right and opened one of the cabinets, then stepped back in front of the stove with the pepper she retrieved. “I made enough scones to last you for three weeks, so eat up.”

“But I’m not hungry,” he whined before pushing her short, blonde hair back and kissing her neck lightly.

That seemed to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, for Brynn whirled around and shoved Orlando off of her. “I don’t want to screw you, Orlando! Just back the hell off,” she snapped.

Orlando stood there for several moments even after Brynn had turned back to her cooking. He was stunned, to say the least. That was the first time she had ever turned him down in such a harsh fashion, and it stung. She truly wanted him to leave her alone.

“Fine,” Orlando growled. He grabbed a few scones then headed back toward the stairs. “I’ll be getting ready.”

Loud steps resounded through the kitchen as Orlando childishly stomped up the stairs. The slam of a door allowed Brynn to know that she was finally alone, and Orlando wouldn’t be able to hear her. She scraped the scrambled eggs onto a plate, then carried the skillet over to the sink to rinse it. The minute the faucet started running, she stared up at the ceiling as if to keep the tears from overflowing onto her face. Although a daring attempt, it failed miserably, and she was left to live out what she did nearly every day.

Billy Boyd stood on the grand front porch of the Bloom estate, his hands deep in his pockets and a frown on his face. It was not that he wasn’t used to this... he was making runs over to their house nearly every day lately, but the frequency was beginning to worry him. Heart wrenching messages from his best friend could always be found on his cell phone, but it never got any easier listening to them.

He rang the doorbell then waited. A few moments later, the door was opened with the disheveled looking Brynn standing in the opening. The minute Billy stepped inside and had the door closed behind him, she collapsed into his arms, heartbreaking sobs escaping her. He walked them over to the nearest couch and sat there until Brynn was ready to talk. He never forced her to tell him things, she just did. After a few years of getting to know her, he caught on that patience was the key.

“Shhh,” Billy whispered lowly. “It’s okay, love.”

“No, it’s not,” she sobbed, hiccuping slightly. “He just... oh, Billy, you’re shirt...”

Billy looked down at the large wet blotch on his shirt where Brynn’s head had been resting. He shook his head, pressing her back down to him. “Don’t worry about that.”

Brynn sniffled, hugging closer to the one person she could count on– the rock in her life. “I love you, Billy.”

“I love you too.”

“Um,” she sat up again, wiping the tears that traveled down her cheeks, “back to what I was saying, I guess. Orlando– he – I think he just wants me for sex.” She couldn’t help it, the second the last word had left her mouth, she burst into tears again.

“Sweetheart–” he began, trying not to laugh. How could she think that? Orlando was the most sentimental man Billy had ever met in his life, and just the idea was enough to make him laugh. “You know he’s not even capable of thinking like that.”

She cleared her vision enough to see the huge grin on her friend’s face. She scowled at him, trying to keep her awaiting tears at bay. “You think it’s funny!”

“Yes, I do!” Billy replied now laughing. “The insinuation that he would be keeping you around purely for sex is absolutely ridiculous and you know it! The man becomes emotionally attached to plants, Brynn. Plants, pens, pillows– you name it, he has some sort of freakish love for it. And here you are, suggesting that he only wants you for physical pleasure?”

A small smile peeked through the deep sorrow on Brynn’s face. She blushed slightly before replying. “I guess you have a point.”

“Damn straight, I do. Now, please lass, stop moping around. I have plans for us today, and I took the entire day off just for you. Go get ready so we can begin our fun, depression-free day, alright?”

Nodding, Brynn gave him one last hug. “You do more for me than anyone else,” she whispered. “Thank you.”

“It’s my pleasure,” Billy replied, placing a kiss on her forehead. “Go get ready, or we’ll be late!”

Orlando sat in his car, parked outside of the movie set, and thought about all that had happened earlier in the morning. He shouldn’t have been so pig-like in the kitchen, he shouldn’t have stomped up to their room, and he surely should not have stormed out the way he did. Now he sat silently, a very pensive expression crossing his features, as he replayed everything in his mind over and over, regretting each moment.

As he contemplated going home and apologizing, a knock sounded on his window. He rolled it down quickly with great irritation. “What, Dom?”

Dom raised an eyebrow at his friend’s tone, but decided to brush it off. He rested his hands over the edge of the door before he decided to explain his intrusion. “We’re about to start filming, and Elijah is going crazy looking for you. It is eleven.”

“What?!” Orlando nearly yelled, glancing at his watch. Sure enough, Dom was right, and it was eleven o’clock. He rolled his window up (only slightly enjoying Dom’s panic to get his fingers out of the way), and placed his keys in his pocket. “And no one thought about looking earlier?”

Considering this idea, Dom paused as Orlando climbed out of the car. “Not really. It takes a while for the panic to set in.”

The two comrades made their way quickly to the set where Elijah Wood and the rest of the co-stars were waiting impatiently. The minute Elijah saw Orlando, he threw his hands into the air and took a seat in his directors chair. “Where the hell have you been?” he demanded.

“Caught in traffic,” Orlando replied with a grunt.

Elijah looked to Dom, who in turn placed a very innocent look on his face. “I had a hard time getting here too.”

“Well, haul your ass into hair and make-up so we can get started,” Elijah responded. He looked around, trying to make sure everyone else was still there. “Where did Jessica go?”

“Hair and make-up,” someone answered.

“Hasn’t she looked at herself long enough today?” he growled. “I know I sure have.” He and Dom laughed at his comment. Just as quickly as he had laughed, he morphed back into mean-director mode. “Tell her to knock it off. Her character isn’t supposed to look like Catherine Zeta-Jones.”

A frightened set worker scurried off to the hair and make-up trailor as fast as they could manage. Elijah wasn’t sure what his name was, but he did know that he was more reliable than the incompetent actors he hired. How he was expected to meet his deadline with a bunch of fools as his cast, he didn’t know. He couldn’t complain much, though, for he had hired them.

Dominic sat back and witnessed everything with a grin on his face. If these workers had any idea what Elijah was really like, they wouldn’t be so scared. He just liked to put on a show for everyone– put his acting skills to work even off screen. Plus, the “I don’t take crap from anyone” attitude went a long way in show business, and almost everyone listened. Everyone, that is, except for Orlando.

I am so happy you updated! I had been waiting for more! ^_^

Now, must say, Orlando sort of deserved the outburst from Brynn over breakfast. He takes her for granted, and he shouldn't just expect her to be 'in the mood' when he treats her badly.

Then, Billy is my hero! I love that he is such a sweet friend and takes care of Brynn. le sigh. :cloud#9: You're gonna make me fall even more in love with him.

And, I ain't complaining! ;-)

Raine - March 28, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
:heartbeat: I agree with her! I'm so happy you updated, I was checking the thread all the time waiting for the next post...

Any I can't believe Orlando would want only sex from Brynn right? ::sighs:: I don't know... and Billy! OMG I can't believe this.. ::is astonished::

Please post more ASAP - Raine

ps: Loven the banner.

Blondie - March 28, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Yayyyy an update!

The mental picture I had of Orlando stomping off as a pissy little rejected child was just too much to handle. I couldn't help but giggle like a loon for a minute or two. Tee hee.

Awww...Brynn. How her heart aches. No one should be this upset all the time. But good thing there is Billy. Dear sweet Billy to save the day as usual.

As happy as I am that Brynn has someone like Billy to console in, I couldn't help but wonder a wee bit if maybe she might be falling for him. She did mention that Billy was the one person that did more for her than anyone.

Maybe I am just crazy...but I kind of get that vibe.

Anyway...moving on.

Bwahahahahahahaha! That was great. How cute that Orlando gets attached to plants.

Loved the interaction between Dom, Orlando and Elijah. They are so great together.

Oh I'm so glad you updated!!!!! I loved it! Orlando stalking off like a little kid was too funny! I couldn't help but imagine that!

And Billy. Dearest Billy! He's always the one saving someone isn't he?? I wonder if there's something more between him and Brynn. That would definitely be interesting.

Billy's little speal about how Orlando gets attached to plants was great!!! So funny!

Great job hun!!!
