Title: The Celebrity Voice: Politics
Description: Freedom of speech or cult indoctrination

I was reading an article in a magazine in which the interviewer stated:

“Currently the American government is saying that artists and celebrities should not be voicing their political opinions through the media exposure they get.”

I thought it was an interesting point. Rich coming from a government that prides itself on freedom of speech laws but possibly raising a concern about the cult like following of certain musicians/celebrities and perhaps impressionable youths that would be very much influenced by the politics of their “idols”.

I don’t know, I just thought it might be a fun topic to debate…

This is a very interesting topic, Rafe. Thank you for posting it.

I will say that I find it irritating when celebrities speak out about who the American public should vote for. Of course, they have the right to speak just as much as any citizen, but something about it irks me. I feel like, at times, they are trying to tell us what to do. And, to be honest, most of them live in their million dollar mansions and don't have a clue anymore about how the regular American citizen lives.

But, hey, they can say what they want. I just won't base any decision I make on their opinion. It is sad to think of it, but there are probably many impressionable people who will do what their favorite entertainer says. However, this is not the celebrity's fault, it is the fault of a person who can not think for themselves.

Another thing I find interesting is that celebrities who speak out Liberal views get celebrated, while those who go for the more Conservative side get ridiculed. i.e. Charlton Heston, Tom Selleck I find the media to be biased, and that really isn't fair to a country that is made up of two very different political sides.

Anyhow, that is my two cents. I'd love to hear some other opinions from those in the U.S. and out.
