Title: The Butterfly Effect

I can't believe no one made a topic of this before!
I just finished watching it (I'd actually watched half of it at a friend's house a week ago and was dying to get it rented and couldn't until today) and my God this is such an awesome movie!!
I'll try not to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, because it's an amazing movie. The trama is great, and the title suits it incredibly. You can read this at the beginning:
| QUOTE |
It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. - Chaos Theory |
And it's just what the movie is about.
About the consequences of our actions and the complicated scheme of life.
Ashton Kutcher's performance is in my opinion excellent. It's like Jim Carey, I don't get why they don't just act serious parts instead of doing only comedy. Such great actors!
And the photography was so great, gosh, it was filmed in such a great way, and it all was just so entrancing....
Bah, I can't really say anything without bursting in compliments, sorry. I just think it's an amazing movie, on my top favorites as of now.
If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's definitely worth it.
And if you have, reply with your opinion. It might make this a bit more objective! *cough* :P

I know! It's one of the best movies I've seen. It left me screaming at the end begging for no changes!
It brings you the worst doubt of all : What If I could change my past?
It's amazing, you just have to see it, really. I agree with Flower: Ashton Kutcher is a great actor, so bad his past characters aren't this good!

It was an okay movie, but honestly, I have never seen a movie that held so much disgust in my life.
In the first 30 minutes, we're exposed to - peadophile (sp?), child pornography, animal cruelty, little kids threatening to kill each other... and once we add on all the other offensive dialogue and visions that come forth during the rest of the movie, you'll have one big Crude Fiesta... it's disgusting. I only liked it for the whole time-travel concept and the unusal power he had, but other than that, it was horrible.

First of all to The Sapphire, no offence, but all of the things seen in the first thirty minutes of The Butterfly Effect exist in real life, a lot more often than people realise and yes, they can and have all happened to one person. I think the makers portrayed all of those elements very well.
Okay, I thought the movie was good, but it dragged a bit toward the end what with the frequent chopping and changing. Ashton Kutcher did a good job, although every time there was some sort of funny moment or a joke, I expected him to break out the Kelso smile and fall over something.

I didn't see it in the cinema, I saw the Director's Cut on DVD which ends differently. I think in the Theatrical Cut, Evan goes back to when he first met Kayleigh and decides to be mean to her so they don't become friends. Then when they're older they pass each other on the street with barely a glance, right? In the DC, he goes right back to when his mother was in labour with him and prevents himself from being born. In the end, Lenny, Kayleigh and Tommy all end up being successful and Kayleigh marries another man. I'm not sure which ending I prefer, but I think the DC ending was really poignant and a very selfless thing for Evan to do.

Wow, Anneka! I didn't see it in the cinema either, I rented the DVD, but I'd no idea there was a different ending!!
(I saw the 2nd one you mentioned)
It probably had to do with the DVD being burnt and all...

I realize that this thread has been dead for forever-and-a-day *laughs*, but I just thought I'd add this:
1. I definitely liked this movie. A lot. I wouldn't say it's spectacular, but pretty close (or maybe I would say it is, if I were in a more energetic mood, hehe).
2. I can't stand Jim Carrey except in a serious role (FwD&J may be an exception to this, but I'm not sure...). Kutcher will always be Keslo to me *laughs* but I'd say he did pretty dang well with this film- luckily he had a spectacular (there I go, using the word- ha!) script to work with so...yea *nods*
3. I've seen both versions (by accident really; one side of the dvd I first watched it on was scratched so we switched it halfway through hehe), and personally I prefer the Theatrical Version. Granted, the DC had an interesting element to it, but I can't help that I like a bit of bitter-sweetness at the end of such an angsty movie. Y'know what I mean?
4. If you liked BE, I would definitely recommend the following movies (because they're all kind of similar):
-Donnie Darko
-Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
And, especially:
-The Jacket
I'm not a huge fan of DD (of which I've only seen the DC), but all four films are certainly interesting. And if you like Adrien Brody's performace in The Jacket- see The Village (it's probably one of my favourite movies ever- and not a new thing, as the presense of the Village banner in my sig- I made the thing a while ago and just recently found it again, heh...)
Right then; tchao.
