Title: Top Ten Movies Of All Time

hollybaggins - September 8, 2004 04:37 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, post here to deliver your top ten movies of all time - 1 being the best, of course! Here's mine:

1 - The Lord of the Rings - people argue that they are three separate films...but I know better. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote the book as one whole book and the publishers split it up into three so it wouldn't seem quite as long. The Movie was split into three for obvious reasons. But the fact of the matter is; it's one whole film - think about it...none of them had endings until the Return of the King. It's all one film, and it's my favourite. I'm a fan of the book and always have been and Peter Jackson got everything right. A great cast, great effects and a story you can believe in.

2 - Spiderman 2 - Again, another brilliant film - another you can believe in. Great characters; Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson have got to be my favourite fictional romantic couple ever! Tobey and Kirsten were great and brought the connection between their character's alive!

3 - Titanic - You cannot deny the brilliance of this film...and if you don't cry at the end...what's the matter with you?!?!

4 - The Shawshank Redemption - Brilliant, breath-taking movie. No words can express this movie...pure genius ending...if you haven't seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.

5 - Pirates of the Caribbean - Throughly enjoyable and although Orlando Bloom was weak (seriously, I don't think he's brilliant...), Johnny Depp was the heart and soul of this movie.

6 - Shrek - "Can I stay wit you?" hehe what a movie...loved every moment of this. Eddie Murphy rules all!

7 - Some Like It Hot - Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe. One of the funniest movies of all time. Amazing. Hilerious. Watch it and enjoy.

8 - The War - Baby 'Lijah (well, not really...14-year-old) and Kevin Costner were absolutely brilliant...and it's soo sad :cry2: Watch it, really. Brilliant.

9 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - This film took my breath away - and Jim Carrey was amazing. Got a great twist at the end too and a very handsome technician...

10 - Austin Powers in Goldmember - fucking hilerious!! Need I say more?

Let's hear your's and compare taste! :yay:

1. Lord of The Rings:
Probabally the most brilliant movie(s) of all time. I recently saw them in the 2005 edition of The Guiness World Book of Records.

2. Amelie:
The movie is beautiful; it gets you thinking on how everyone's lives affects other peoples lives.

3. Titanic:
I cried so much watching this for the first time; In its day, everyone was gushing about this movie.

4. Pirates of The Carribean:
A genuinely good movie; with entertainment for the whole family.

5. Harry Potter Movies:
Come on. Everybody loves Harry Potter.

6. Sleepy Hollow:
I don't think many people liked this movie, but i adored it.

7. City of Angels:
No explanation needed.

8. Moulin Rouge:
This movie is wonderful; it embodies everything beautiful. I'm a big Love fan.

9. Blue Crush:
I'm mad about Surfing. I go practically everyday; They're were never any girls on the waves before, until this movie inspired millions of girls to give it a go.

10. Love Actually:
I adored this movie. It's so wonderfully written.

1. The Bladerunner
Dark, intrigueing and highly philosopical - when adroids, once designed to carry out work too boring, dangerous or distasteful for humans, become just as intelligent and hungry for life as their creators, how can you tell them apart from true men and women? Can you still treat them as machines without feelings? Or maybe they deserve a real life as well? Based on the novel "Do andrioids dream of electric sheep?" by Philip K. Dick.

2. Braveheart
IMHO, Mel Gibson in his best role ever. God, those eyes! I hardly ever cry when I watch films, but this is my number one trearjerker.

3. Star Wars Trilogy
No, not those overdone, irritating new ones (even though Hayden Christensen and Nat Portman are hot!) - I'm talking about young Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (those eyes again!) and Carrie Fisher as the ever-so-bitchy Princess Leia.

4. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Do I need any explanations for this? ;)

5. Girl, Interrupted
Angelina Jolie's Oscar winning performance, based on the novel by Susanna Kaysen. A young woman, questionably diagnosed with borderline personality disorder has to stay in a mental hospital to recover - sometimes going a little insane is the only way to stay normal.

6. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet 1996
Ok, so it's Leonardo di Caprio - so what?! The kid can actually act, and the movie is just powerful. I loved how they managed to unite the modern setting and the original dialogue.

7. Titanic
That's when my Leo di Caprio mania started. I'm not that keen on him anymore, but this film was just :cry2:

8. Where the heart is
Based on the novel by Billie Lett's, starring Nat Portman as Novallee Nation, 17, 7 months pregnant, who is left to herself by her boyfriend on a Walmart parking lot in the middle of Oklahoma. A touching story of a young girl with a big heart.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean
I loved this one so much that when I went to Disneyland with my friend, we went on the theme park ride 7 times in a row, lol.

10. Shrek, Ice Age, Finding Nemo
Ok, so that's actually 12 films, but I just couldn't choose ^_^

1. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
I absolutely agree with hollybaggins in that its one story. But in dividing it into three films I have to say I preferred the middle section to the first and third and it's probably the film, of the three, that I watch the most.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean
3. Shrek

4. Angels in America
This I got for Christmas; a 6-hour film serialized for television and based on the book. There such so much in it, themes of Religion, law and justice, homosexual prejudice, Aids; a real ensemble piece. Very moving and very powerful.

5. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

6. The Mask of Zorro
I'm a sucker for a swashbuckler. A character with a sword and a good cause and I’m hooked. And when done with the sophistication of Zorro and it's a favourite.

7. The Matrix
Because I can still watch it and pick up something new every time and feel utterly in the dark about the message at the end.

8. Once upon a time in Mexico
Robert Rodriguez is brilliant, if not a little quirky. On the DVD features, when instructing how to make Puerco Pibil he describes the chilli seeds as "Very hot, very cool..." which had me in stitches for a total age. It was a toss up between Desperado and Mexico for this list but I have to hand it to Johnny Depp's Sands.

9. Rat Race
Possibly the funniest film I have ever seen. John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Cuba Gooding Jnr. An ensemble of very funny people sets up a ridiculously crazy but quite hilarious romp from Las Vegas to silver city, New Mexico.

10. Ned Kelly
This has to be in the list for the music alone but it really is a beautifully told story.

In no particular order ;)

1.Star Wars (specifically the original three *grins like a nerd over Luke's pretty eyes* heh, *snaps out of it* but the new Ep3 is freaking amazing as well :D)
2. The Matrix (only the original, not the sequels!)
3. The Phantom of the Opera ("In sleep he sang to me...")
4. The Terminator (All three :) in order of greatness: 1,3 and then 2 ;))
5. The Village (M. Night Shymalan's new film, check out the thread on the site in my signature for a synopsis ;))
6. The Princess Bride (British humour, heck yea)
7. Pride and Prejudice (nearly 6 hours of Colin Firth at his most *swoons*-ish?! Heck yes! ;) Gotta love Jane Austen)
8. Dirty Dancing (the old one; the REAL one, not the stupid Havanna Nights one :P)
9. Moulin Rouge (Come what may, I will love you, till my dying...day..." *weeps*)
10. French Kiss (Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline; this movie is freaking hilarious and great. Don't be mislead by the title, it's totally cute and hysterical and eesh! I just love it! :))

Nefduliniel - May 26, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)

QUOTE
8. Pretty in Pink ~ Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy at their best.

I totally loved this movie until she destroyed two perfectly good dresses by making them into a sack, and then ended up with that one guy instead of her friend. *makes a face* poopy.

Nefduliniel - May 27, 2005 04:59 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the dress was definitely the furthest thing from pretty she could have come up with. And I could see how you could say that about the ending but I've always been partial to Andrew McCarthy (who plays Blaine) so I was okay with it.

Airefeaiel - May 29, 2005 05:08 AM (GMT)
1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (one trilogy to rule them all)
2. Star Wars Saga (Han is teh sex.)
3. The Phantom of the Opera (Wandering Child...so lost, so helpless)
4. Closer (Can't take my eyes off of you)
5. Titanic (Leo. check. Kate. Check. Sinking ship. check. Celine Dion singing as it goes down. Priceless)
6. The Little Mermaid (Jodi Benson as Ariel, masterpiece)
7. Dirty Dancing (I had the time of my life...)
8. Bruce Lee: Enter The Dragon (Story of a legend)
9. Interview with the Vampire (Do you like being food for the immortals!!? - Louis...*cackles evilly*)
10. The Mask of Zorro (He was very vigorous father...)

:heartbeat: Pat

Cat - June 19, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
1. Back to the Future (All of them are so fun to watch, they always brighten up a miserable day. And Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are incredible in it ^_^ plus, that cliffhanger between the second and third is just EVIL brilliance!)

2. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (all of them are masterpieces, but I really did love the first one the best. It was all new to me and it started my obsession)

3. Pirates of the Carribean (Sexy pirate, sexy blacksmith, brilliant jokes, amazing plot. What's not to love?)

4. My Fair Lady (Just can't help but love the costumes and the singing. 'Wit a little bit o' bloomin' luck!)

5. Empire Records (I love this movie for its music, stupidity, plot, humour and much much more)

6. Star Wars (Purrrrty lightsabers!! ;))

7. The Frightners (comedy, horror, suspense, mystery. I love it :) It was a recent find, but with Peter Jackson's name on the back I couldn't help but be intrigued by it and it was definitely worth buying!)

8. The Lion King (Circle of Life)

9. Harry Potter (not as good as the books obviously, and I'm kind of sulky about the things they left out, but I own all of them and enjoy watching them :))

10. Men in Tights ( :lmao: )

Nefduliniel - June 23, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
