Title: The Vampire Chronicles
Description: Anne Rice devotees show yeselves!
Aurora - August 30, 2004 05:48 PM (GMT)
I'm completely addicted to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and I know Mena is as well, but I was wondering if there are any more VC-devotees out here?
I'm currently reading The Vampire Armand and I really like it! My favourite book thus far is Tale of the Body Thief, that one is just outstanding!!
Oh, and I'm deeply in love with Lestat! Gah!!
So... reactions please! :P
Aurora - August 30, 2004 05:51 PM (GMT)
If you want to know more about any of the books,
here's a very convenient site the ever so lovely Mena once gave me. It has quotes from every book. Yay! :D
Mena - August 30, 2004 06:37 PM (GMT)
Ahahahah, I somehow felt it coming! And yes, I'm a proud addicted to the VC as well. I am not very happy to say that the latest ones are not as good as the first, but eventually worth the reading, if you tend to miss the presence of some wonderful characters.
I agree with Aurora, the Tale of the Body Thief is my favourite as well, together with the Queen of the Damned.
Eh, hope there are some fellow readers around...
Come out, come out, wherever you are...
Sorry, I couldn't resist. :tsk:
ninque elen - August 30, 2004 08:04 PM (GMT)
Oh man more Anne Rice and vampire chronicle fans.
*BEAMS*
I am a huge fan of the vampire chronicles. I discovered them I think 6 months ago when I was looking for some good vamp books and remembered her name (cause I had seen the movie Interview with the vampire)
The first one I bought was: queen of the damned.
Which I think is extremly good. To bad the movie wasn't very good (though I loved Stuart Townsend and the songs)
I think "The vampire Lestat" is an amazing story to, just like the vampire Armand.
I love the way she writes, the descriptions, the dialogues, the developments. All those different times she writes about and the amazing plot twists.
I haven't read the tale of the body thief or memnoch the devil....so I guess I have some nice things in store.
*smiles*
So favourite characters?
Aurora - August 30, 2004 08:10 PM (GMT)
Awww it's a pity you didn't read them in the right order! Though it's cool you read them, hahah.
I'm a fervent opponent of the movie QotD. It's utter crap and I think it deserves the title 'Worst Book Adaptation Ever Made". Ugh. The only pro were Lestat's leather pants, lol.
Anyway, you should read TotBT. It's SO brilliant!
I have to agree with you on the amazing descriptions of Anne, although in The Vampire Armand they tend to become a bit too extended (read:boring). But her style is unique - I really dig all those old-fashioned words she uses. I should really continue tVA.
Another favourite characters of mine is of course Louis. He's such a doll.
What did you think of the movie IwtV by the way?
.Jazz. - August 31, 2004 06:20 AM (GMT)
I am a OBSESSED vampire chronicles fan ;)
I have every book and also all of the books on Audio Cassette.
I first discovered them in 2001, when QOTD came out in cinema's. I fell head over heels in love with Stuart Townsend.
I was also absolutely kicking myself, because i could've been an extra at "The Concert in Death Valley".
My favourite would have to be a tie between QOTD, Vampire Armand and Blood and Gold.
My favourite relationship was Daniel and Armand, and i was disapointed to find there were no original vamps in Blood Canticle, the last book EVER
But i do have a bit of a crush on Quinn ;)
Mena - August 31, 2004 09:47 AM (GMT)
I agree with Emy, the QotD movie sucks ( and forgive my definition, not the best for a vampire movie ), even if, yes Jazz, the Death Valley concert was not that bad. But nothing compared to the book, when Jessica jumps on stage!
I also did not read the books in order, but as I bought them all, I could easily re-read them and catch up with what I had missed.
I didn't read the Blackwood farm, because it has not being translated in Italian, and I prefer to read them in my mother tongue the first time. I made one heck of effort to get through both "Merrick", "The vampire Armand" and "Blood and Gold", because I read them in English first.
My favourite characters? David (my Johnny-lookalike), Lestat, and Marius, who reminds me a bit of Viggo. :meh:
And of course, Mekare and Maharet, whom I owe my EWAC alias to!
There are several interesting sites on the subject, I have been following Anne Rice for nearly 5 years now, I can tell! I had found an awesome site where you could submit lyrics of songs that reminded you of the VC... but sadly, it has not been updated in a very long time, and now the link got broken.
I'll let you know. :)

Hahahahaha indeed nice choice of words.
Nope the movie wasn't very good (such a shame) But there are lots more horrible vamp movies out there *shudders*

Very very bad that you couldn't be there.

Such a pity

I know some links. I will try to dig them up and post them here next time

Now about Interview with the vampire...that I thought was a fabulous movie! It made me fall in love with vamps and the VC forever. The actors and acting was outstanding. That movie is everything I expect from a vamp movie. Sensous, predatory, terrifying, dark, depressing, rich in words and images and powerful.
It's hard to have a favourite character cause I think they all are fabulous. But if I have to choose: Lestat (of course), Armand, Marius and Louis.

I love IWtV.
It's the sort of move that sucks you in, and you share a connection with the emotions. When i saw the movie i thought i would never be happy again. It was raw emotion.
Though i can't stop sniggering at the blood packs on the girls at the room on waterfront.
Marius is awesome and so are Mekare and Maharet.
I really can't choose a favourite really.
And you know you are obsessed with you've made a LONG list of PROs and CONs of being which Vampire's fledgling.
I still havent decided :P
Aurora - September 1, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
Yay, another vamp-freak! :woot:
I personally loved the movie iwtv. I think Brad Pitt made a beautiful, mourning, brooding Louis, although I was less happy with Tom as Lestat. He totally ruined the character for me, because I kept seeing his face in my mind whenever I read about lestat. Thankfully I moved past that
I hope I don't spoil anything by saying this, but I totally worshiped that scene in which Louis and Armand have a near-kiss. WHOA! :lalala:
And remember... evil is a point of view ;)

let me add one of my fav. quotes:
what's an angel but a ghost in a drag?
ninque elen - September 1, 2004 06:14 PM (GMT)
Hahahahahaha
Of course evil is a point of view.
And I have decided long ago that for me vampires aren't evil.
They drink blood because they have to...humans kill to but they don't need to.
Anyways yes Brad Pitt made a brilliant Louis but I don't think Tom Cruise did bad either.

How about He wears woe as other wear fur ?
Guess who it is about! :P

Hahahahaha
To easy...*grins*
Those books have loads of great quotes!
*blush*
I am to tired to look one up now
.Jazz. - September 2, 2004 02:25 PM (GMT)
Even though Stuart didn't look the part, but still was oh so gorgeous and drool worthy in those leather pants and open shirts.
I think he captured Lestats personality really well.
Mmm.
Tom Cruise got it right too.
I would say Tom portrayed Lestats fun, cheeky side and Stuart his dark, serious side.
:)
Oh and Armand and Louis kiss. *sigh* I've been reading to much slash. I keep expecting them to jump each other.
But a voice in the back of my head screams "You love Daniel DAMNIT!"
Hehehe.
Aurora - September 3, 2004 08:18 AM (GMT)
I really thought that Stuart lacked Lestat's humour and charisma, so to speak. I don't know, he portrayed him as a completely evil, dark figure while Lestat is utterly charming.
Tom did a good job on that I suppose, but his head!!
ninque elen - September 3, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
*grins*
Well we can fight about the actors forever I think.
It's hard to find someone who can play Lestat exactly as you picture him to be.
For my part...I liked Stuart and Tom both. Though they portrayed him quite differently. So maybe you have a preference for someone else...I wonder who?
It would be nice to know.
Can I ask the rest of you what you find so attractive about vampires....or/and the books?
WhiteAndie - September 3, 2004 07:28 PM (GMT)
Okay, I feel like a whole inexpert here, but I read Interview with the vampire, and I loved it, and I started reading The witching hour, but because of my finals I couldn't finish it..
It was sad, but I promise I'll read it when I finish my exams...
:) So let a new and short experienced fan to this little thread.

:)
i must say that i like anne rice too.
my fav is the queen of the damned and i totally agree with you guys...the movie is very bad...all those vampires are very well wirtten and the movie does not show it.
Mena - September 4, 2004 09:06 AM (GMT)
What I enjoy of vampires and their books? Mmm..
well, first of all I must say I am a person who get very easily scared. And vampires have always been my soft spot... because they seem to embody all kids' terrors: no mirror reflection, passing through door's holes... I've also been so smart to read Sheridan leFanu's Carmilla when I was 8 <_< .
I like the VC because of their atmosphere. I've never understood why, but scenes dealing with blood can be very sensual and fascinating on paper, while on screen, they look gross most of times, did you notice?
Last night I was in a car with some friends, listening to music, and there is a band, both Aurora and I are fans of, whose lyrics remind me very much of the VC. I realized that lots of Anne Rice's fans find references to her stories almost everywhere! :lmao:

That's so true!! The elegancy with is written is amazing, and in movies they just use red colored syrup... <_<

Darlin' I think you have the biggest imagination ever and reading stories and books about vampires and stuff doesn't help ... :P
But I've been through that as well!
Andie
ninque elen - September 4, 2004 03:48 PM (GMT)
Interesting
I never thought you found vampires scary.
I do agree with what you say about the blood. It almost always works better on paper. Though I thought IWTV did pretty good, it was not tacky or gross (atleast I think so) but if you look at some other movies....it's like one big blood orgy.
oops I have to go...I will finish this later
Mercedies - September 14, 2004 02:42 PM (GMT)
This is great I wanted to start reading the books but i didn't know what order they went in. I do now so I can start reading them, thanks
ninque elen - October 8, 2004 09:43 AM (GMT)
Have fun in reading them!
I just read Memnoch the devil.
I liked it very much but I doubt they will ever make a movie out of it.
I am afraid you will get a lot of trouble with religious people then.
Mena - October 8, 2004 04:26 PM (GMT)
Talk about connection, Dana! I re-read some parts of it on the past nights not to focus on my exam... at first i was so in love with the previous book that i didn't love it to bits... wah, Lestat cries all the time!
But re-reading it... man! I didn't notice it was so sensual!
I want David. Now. :yum:
13lackEnvy - October 10, 2004 12:55 AM (GMT)
I bow down to Anne Rice and The Vampire Chronicles!
I've been addicted to her since I was 11 and now i'm 14 ^_^
.Jazz. - October 10, 2004 10:52 AM (GMT)
Anne Rice is wonderful.
She created a whole new world for me to delve into when i was teased and bullied at school, i could always escape to these books.
^_^
I had this funny thing happen the other night, my friend James and i were walking down this scary street and he was trying to scare me so he says..
"Oooh Jazz, Vampires are out there....oh. You love vampires dammnit."
I thought it was hilarious, because he was getting into scaring me, and my eyes lit up when he said that. haha.
Okay, back in my box i go ;-)
ninque elen - October 12, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
*grins*
They wouldn't scare me with that either...ehehe
I would probably go something like: oooh cooool!!!!!!! I want to go to them!
 :lalala: :meh:
It is indeed a wonderful world to escape to...sorry to hear you needed that so much!

He is crying a lot indeed....but it somehow fits with the story!
I love the whole God and devil concept in it...sure made me think!
The thing Armand did at the end of the book really broke my heart. I was like: noooooooo!!!
Mena - October 12, 2004 03:11 PM (GMT)
Lol, I was like: YESSSS, Finally!
Sorry. :meh:
But if you read the following books you know we both did not need it. :tsk:
Aurora - October 12, 2004 09:31 PM (GMT)
Eeep, I finally finished The Vampire Armand, and even though I claimed otherwise before, I love it!
I so love the combinatino of him and Marius, GOD! And I still love Lestat to bits. He's just one of those push-me-up-against-the-wall-and-BITE-me-already-dammit type of vampires guys. :ghost:
And I don't know why I love vampires so much. There's indeed something infinitely sensual about them, especially in Anne's books. She makes me want to be a part of their world so badly that I'd nearly wish they'd really exist.
And Mena, what Gathering-lyrics remind you of the VC? :P

The reason is pure and simple, Vampires are SEX.
Hehe.
The such sexual beings even if they can't er, do it.
But in slash they can. *thinks back to reading hardcore slash when Lestat and Louis experimented*

Eheheheh!! So many that you'd be scared to find out.
A few examples: (warning, spoilers!)
Mekare, running to kill the Queen
The Vampire lestat (when he was a mortal actor in Paris, and his relationship with Nicky)
vampires in general... to me, Louis and Lestat
Queen of the damned, the twins
Queen of the damned again, the twins and their curse(can't tell they are my favourite characters, innit? :P )
Akasha
Lestat after Memnoch the devil
Queen of the damned, Daniel dreaming about the twins and Armand
Lestat, Louis, and Claudia
I'm too tired to find some more... what do you think Emy?
.Jazz. - October 13, 2004 03:59 PM (GMT)
Wow, that's awesome Mena.
Mekare and Maharet are two of my fav vampires as well; i was pretty upset they didn't have more of them in QOTD.
Aurora - October 13, 2004 04:23 PM (GMT)
Oh wow, Amity and Morphia's Waltz fit perfectly! And I can see the connection with the rest as well! ^_^ You have too much time on your hands girl! (Or you're just too vampafied :P)

They are so sensual and the way Anne writes about them makes me wish they did exist.

And I completly share your feelings on Lestat.
Great songs you have there.
I certainly can see why it reminds you of the VC.
Maybe I can even use a few for my fic

And, Dana, that band I provided the lyrics from is Dutch... *nudge nudge, hint hint*
So, none of you great writers is planning something based on the VC for our Creative Section? Puh-leaseeee!!

And I still haven't got Merrick :(
