Title: Writing short stories
Description: Does it work for you?

For some very weird reason, my muse gets really active whenever I have a test or exam coming up and it is quite a shame sometimes that I have to get rid of the idea of ever writing it because by the time I'm done with the test/exam, my muse would just go to sleep!

To overcome this, I would usually write something short and precise and try to let my mind just wander around with other ideas. Smut might work but it could be distracting :lmao:

Just join in challenges for short stories based on a word and maybe, just maybe (because it works for different people), your muse would come out of its hole and jump-kick your ass brain.

Let the creativity stream flow!

Too true! I happened to go to bed at 7 AM more than once, after spending my night writing, and it always happens before a test! I realized muses are adrenaline junkies, and love to keep you on your toes. And they like to pull tricks, that's why they never show around when you have plenty of time to focus on your writing.

The idea of short stories works for me as well. I never tried to write short stories that involve peculiar words, but I feel quite comfortable with song-fics, as to say, to pick up a song you like, and write a short story out of it.

Sometimes, it works even better if you let someone else choose a song for you, because different taste brings different point of views, and I guess, it peeks your interest and stimulates your inspiration.

Writing short stories or even the randomest drabbles work - at least for me - at those times.

That's so true!

But even if they come at busy times, it's always best to estimulate (sp?) them by writing at least a short thing.
To keep it in shape, sort of speaking.

I was stuck in WB for 7 months *cries* and I could only squeeze poetry (bad poetry, at that), out of my muse. So I wrote a kissing scene while waiting for a friend to arrive and I must say that my muse kick started and now I'm at the beginning of writing a fiction!

So for me, it does work!

Amen. That's exactly what happens to me constantly! And it's a horrible feeling when you want to write, but know you shouldn't because there's the real life waiting, grrr. The worst thing that ever happened to me is that my muse attacked me in the middle of an exam - I was sitting there, trying to figure out Pythagoras and suddenly found myself thinking, "I could make my characters do this and that..."

Short stories are definitely a good remedy for this. Usually, when I've got more time, I then develop them into longer fics.
