In your words, tell us who are you. Who is Smashing Adri?
Smashing Adri... is me, Ivonne García, but as she really is. I've found that the intenet allows you to be who you really are without showing your money, or the brands you use, just you, your brain, what you think and what you feel, that's what really matters. She is also who I want to be, a writer, a girl who speaks her mind without fear. Because, certainly in real life I'm not like that, spoiled by education and rules I'm just a shadow in a world of spectres and corruption. I wish I could be Smashing Adri all the time, even when (as some poeple has seen) she is really emotional and extremely moody.
How much time you have being writing stories?
I write stories since I was 11, shorties and childish ones. And fan fiction to be more specific, three years ago, but those were about other topics (manga and animé and in spanish).
How many fanfics have you done so far?
I think I've done like... 70 in all my life (lol!), but of course not all of them are finished or posted.
Finished and published like 40... the rest are projects, ideas and short stories. I've been in another forums before, but I got out easily. I don't care about the amount of fics, the amount shows nothing if people don't read them. What I care about is quality and care about the ideas, make sure that ideas keep on coming.
The day that I find myself without a good plot probably I should leave the forum or something like that, I hope that day never comes. LOL! The most important things I've writen are the fictions you've read in EWFN and EWAC... But there were like three in an Orlando Bloom forum that disappeared... Sadly. it'd be hard to put a list over here. people knows what I write, I guess.
How do you feel about them?
Proud, of each one of them. All of them are special because have some of me, maybe a feling, an attitude or are just a reflection of a moment I lived.
I still remember the first one I wrote, it was called It's Nice Waking Up Next To Someone In The Morning... adding the looong title it was immature writing, if you compare it with the recent ones like Eressea or the DKW series... you'll see the difference, I wonder what I was thinking about when I wrote it, even when it was really successful to be the first one I wrote. I think everything is part of a process, so you go growing with each thing you do, you improve it, besides my frist language is spanish, so don't ask me to be perfect in english LOL! Even when I think I suck writing in spanish.
Which one are you most proud of?
Only one? It is tough, because I don't like to have favourites, The Don't Know Why Series and The Winter of The Muse. Are the ones that deserve my whole attention in this moment, by the complex plots and characters, I'm paying more attention to details lately. But I also love the funny and fresh ones like Love, Lust and Other Demons, they add some comedy so it is funny to write them.
Do you enjoy writing?
Is not enjoying it... I eat and breathe writing, I can't imagine my life without my stories now, it would be like a void, I can't picture myself doing anything else but writing. I don't know what would I do without the fan fiction section or my poems. Probably I'd be out smoking or losing my time watching the shitty realities. Writing is the reason of my presence on the internet and the reason of my existence now. A precious treasure.
How do you get rid of writer's block?
LOL! I made a thread about that, think we should recover it... I'll look for it. Probably the best way to get rid of it is to listen good music. you know the things that make you feel fine. And see videos, I always watch MTV and seeing the images brings ideas to me, also the lyrics. Going to art galleries is a great idea too, you find awesome titles and ideas for your fics. I just try not to feel stressed, but I noticed the only times when I cannot write (writers block) is when I'm stressed so it's an ironic thing.
What inspires you to write?
I cannot tell what really inspires me to write, because inspiration is everywhere, with a good song, a smile, a stranger, the sky...
Arts are the best fountain of inspiration, and also dreams, I always take them into account. For example for Losing Grip, I've had a dream with orcs, I used it for a scene, it was awesome. I have lots of time while working, I read lots of books and that's inspiring for me, a good atmosphere and a good book. Viggo Mortensen's art is inspiring too, check it out. I love going in the bus (because I have no car, better for me) and look through te window, it always inspires me, so I lvoe bus tripping.
Are there specific genres that capture you?
Well. It is hard for me, when I started probably I liked the romance, but after a long time of being thinking about it I know that I like Fantasy and Drama. Are the ones I like most and the ones I write most, also the suspense mixed with Drama. Most of my fictions have psychological content, I pay attention the the feelings and thoughts of the characters, so introspective genres are my strong point. Horror is not my favourite but as a writer I think you should learn to write anything and everything, just as a try. Also I try to read everything.
What are some great stories you personally recommend others to read from your fellow authors?
Are so many stories right now, and all of them are great. I recommend people to read anything by Jaime Girl, Mena, Ambrosia, Elijahfan14, Cerulean Flame, Laila and Kimibloom, I'm hooked with their stories right now.
What do you think about joint fics? Are they good? Do you enjoy reading and writing them?
I like them, I love them but I think they deserve a lot of work and dedication, are hard to keep up with success so you have to be responsible. The main idea of a joint fic is to share ideas, not to see who wins, and that's the problem that I find with some people who do not like to make joint fics. I respect their POV but sharing ideas is not bad. Working as a team is a great opportunity to improve your style and learn from the others.
tell us about your friends in this forum
Wow, All of them are great. I consider some of then as REAL friends, even out of the internet I think of them as friends. Are great people whom I cannot live without now! I mean, you get to know people so well through their stories that you feel indentified and well, it is a conforting feeling, to know that out there are poeple that feel and think she same way as you, then you don't feel like God-forsaken lass LOL!
All the people, since I arrived as one of the 100000000 citizens of this virtual world, received me with open arms and I've found valuous poeple here: Jaime, Mena, Amber, Sophie, Dana, Laila, Kim, Stacy, Jessity, Sammi, Ronda, Andie, Sol and Flower. And so any people that I'd fill a whole sheet with the names of them all.
Let's talk about The Winter Of The Muse how did you get the idea for it?
I've got it from a dream and from an idea that came to me when I was worried and depressed. I wished that I could write what I want to happen in my life and it would happen, magically. I mean, I was so tired of life and sick of the situations around me and I felt like really really doing something to change it, I was desperate and I wished with all my heart that thing, that somehow I've got to dream that I wrote a letter to someone and what I wrote there became real. So it was strange, but it worked, I thought about it and it is now the fic.
It is the only fic I've written that really reflects how's my real life, what I think is in Isabella's mind, and people may say it is a Mary Sue by being writing about me, but I don't care, if it works for me I should do it, I don't have to worry what people may think about it. Besides, I know any writer, in some part of his or her life, wished that, or even made up a character based on his or her personality, it is an undeniable thing. I'm proud of my fic, and I wish with all my heart become like Isabella one day.
Do you identify with your characters?
Oh yeah... Completely, I mean, everytime you write, by the simple fact of you being the writer it takes something of you. In each one of the characters I create I put something of me, it could be good or bad, but yeah, they have part of me (not to say that they are me... improved LOL!) but yeah.
Is there any specific thing you'd like to write about now?
Hell yeah! I'm writing one now... I want to write about supernatural things, some kind of 'Forces Of Nature' based thing, I mean keeping the romance but having magic all around. Fantasy hooked me, practically everything I write now is full of something magical or unexpected.
As a writer, do you have something published?
I had published some short stories and chronicles by the newspaper of my college and I feel proud. And some of poetry by a magazine... Also my poems had been read on a radio program and I've participated in many contests of journalism and literature, not important but awesome at the same time.
Right now I have the privilege/luck of working on a magazine, and they publish some articles I make about music, and a short story that received great comments, I'm happy about it, I love recognition even when it is not an important thing, but I mean... We are humans, we all have a little bit of vain inside, and I'm vain right now. Shamelessly vain.
Tell us about your projects here in the forum, any upcoming fiction?
Projects: lots... too many to talk about, but are just projects and nothing concrete.
And upcoming fics the closest On The Sunny Side Of The Street, some kind of musical developed in the 30's and 40's. There's one called Alchemy: Shadowmeet's Doom, a drama/fantasy/historic fic that talks about the doom of a kingdom by it's own sins and the revolution of a whole new ideology. It's quite interesting since I've been working on it one year ago, the idea just needed to grow, besides I've been postponing it for a long time and it finally has to come out.
Someone you'd like to write with
Can I mention at least three?
Kimibloom, I just love her style! besides The way she writes is so beautiful, I do admire her.
Aurora, she has a special style, I love her fics, they have that emotion I could not find in anothers, besides she is an awesome Slash writer, genre that's capturing me lately.
Elijahfan14, since she came to the forum we've been great friends and I love the fictions she writes. I love her work, she makes awesome descriptions, besides she as a woman is a person to admire.
Your favourite fiction here
Da Vinci's Muse by Kimibloom, simply great.
Look at the fics of the girls I recommended lines above. Dead On Arrival by Flower is a suspense fic that is great now, I'm hooked.
But my favourite fics ever, in all my life in the forums are Pandora's Box by Magikal Rhiannon, I admire that woman and I'm Sorry Orli I was Blind To Your Love by Orlijah (oldie fic EWFN blue times) that was one of the most original fics I've eer read and with a great emotional content. probably the best storylines I've ever read in a forum.
Your favourite book and writer
No doubt of this: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, the best book I've ever read, for the description of the characters, their actions and how he tells you about the feelings and thoughts of Dorian, it is a masterpiece.
