Ok...I must encourage any and all to read a book by John Irving.

Two of his novels have been adapted to film, The Cider House Rules, and The World According to Garp. Yet, it's important to note, that the screenplays in themselves are original works, simply BASED on the novels.

My infatuation with him began with Cider House Rules. The novels are very lengthy and really, you must give it several chapters for the magic to unfold, but once you get into it...it's impossible to put them down. John Irving writes like a modern day Dickens. His charecters are so rich and multi-dimmensional. Any aspiring writer will appreciate the depths of the people he creates. They become so real, it's like you know them personally...

Word of warning, these books are not for the weak of heart in reading. They always address tough moral issues that leave you to be the judge over right and wrong, and they are advanced reading. But as I said, if you are interested in becoming a writere...they are excellent in technique.

Happy reading!
