3D metallic text

ok iam going to show you how to make some cool metallic text. This is quite a long tut but it will be well worth it, and once you have learned it you will be able to make this effect very quickly.

1) Start up a new page size 400px/400px set the background to a dark grey and write on some white text like below. (I am using a font called space age)

2) Apply PS's own silver gradient to your text (if you don’t see the silver gradient in your panel click on the small triangle on the side of panel, hit load and load PS's metal gradients)

3) Now rasterize the text by right clicking on its layer and selecting rasterize. Now ctrl click on the layer to select the text, change to the channels tab and create a new alpha channel by selecting the new channel button at the bottom of the panel.

4) You should have the text showing on a black background as a selection. Fill the selection with white.

5) Now go to filters-->blur-->gaussian blur and select a radius of 4. your text should look like this

6) Now go back to the layers panel, select your text layer and go to image-->adjustments-->curves and make the following contour.

once done go to image-->adjustments-->desatuarte.
You text should look very metallic now. You can leave it like that, but I will show you how to make it 3D.

9) Go to edit-->transform-->perspective and click on the lower right-hand corner of the text and drag upwards. You only need to drag up a small amount, take a look at the picture below for a guide.

10) once done do to edit-->transform-->scale and click on the middle square on the right hand side and drag left to squash the text up a bit. See below for help.

11) Now duplicate your layer, right click and select blending options. Select inner shadow and enter a value of (250) with this done click and drag your duplicate layer so that it is under the original layer.

12) Now with the duplicate layer selected and the move tool (top right hand corner of the toolbox) selected hold shift on your keyboard and press the left arrow key once. This move the duplicate layer 10 pixels to the left. now hold down the alt key and press the right hand arrow 10 times this move the text 1 pixel right on each click and adds it to its own layer. Your text should look like this.

13) In your layers panel you should have the original text layer and ten duplicate layers each 1 pixel further away then the last. If your text looks too thick just delete some of the duplicate layers from the bottom until you get the desired look. Once you are satisfied, select the top duplicate layer (not the original) and keep pressing ctrl + e untill all duplicate layers are merged into 1.

14) a last little extra is to add a gradient adjustment layer to your pic. From your toolbar select a foreground color of light gray and then select your background layer from the layers panel (either the background or a layer that you are using as a background). Click at the bottom of the layer panel on the "create new fill or adjustment layer" button (half white , half black circle) and select gradient from the roll out menu.

Now adjust the gradient panel to match this.

You can play around with the setting to create some cool pictures. Here is a pic I created using this technique. I have added a reflection and also played around with the lighting
