Okay this is a really basic tut, but it's something everyone should really know, you will end up with something like this:

First open up a new canvas 400x400 pixels
Set the foreground colour to-#1AAAD3
and the background colour to # 2C3FFO

Select the radial gradient tool with the colours we just made,
drag from top to bottom whilst holding down shift to keep the line straight,
now we add some blends

got to LAYER>LAYER STYLE>BLENDING OPTIONS

Apply these blends, make sure you get them exact

ok you should now have something like this

Now select the elliptical marquee tool and make a smaller selection over the orb, I find it's easier to go from bottom to top

Make a new layer and reset your colours to black and white.
Select the linear gradient tool. Make sure you have selected the white-transparent gradient
now drag from Top to Bottom

It should be looking pretty cool by now

Add a few little things to make it look cool and just mess around with it basically
