Title: Cold Hearted Me
Smidge - September 8, 2004 09:52 PM (GMT)
So this is the deal,
I'm 22 and getting close to finishing my first degree. I've always wanted to explore the world and see what I have to offer. I've been looking into a lot of travelling programs in which I would work for a year or so in another country overseas. Here's the sticky part...I'm living with my boyfriend of two years who would be super depressed if I left (we'd stay together even if i left). All my friends are getting married next year so they of course think I'm a horrible girlfriend. i just wanted to see what people who are not getting married have to say. Oh yeah and i forgot to mention he can't come with me because he has his dream job here. So am I evil? Has anyone done this long distance thing before? I know I'll go crazy if I don't accomplish the goals I've set out for myself. I dunno, I'd just like to hear what othjer people think. thanks

SaraHa....the point in life is to make yourself happy and achieve your goals. your boyfriend got his dream and now its time for you to get yours. dont feel the need to be like everyone else if thats not what you want. for me...long distance didnt work but that was cuz he was never gonna come back cuz he moved. my sister and her boyfriend were long distance all summer. they talked to eachother every day and theyre still together now. just do what makes you happiest.

This is my take on these kind of situations. Is your boyfriend supportive of you leaving? This is an important question because I think you should DEFINATELY go and do what you have always wanted to do. But if he is supportive of you, things will be just fine. DIstance sucks....It has a way of killing a relationship...but if you both want it it will work. On the other hand, if your BF is NOT supportive of your going...then Idon't know if the distance will work. :/ You need to do this...so go do it. If it's meant to be, then it will happen. Don't let what your crazy- getting-married-at-22 friends talk you out of it. You are ONLY 22. Live it up!

ugh...that's the worst part Linz...he's SUPER supportive. He tells me he'll miss me horribly but that if this is something i need to do than do it. He's 26 and has done all the fun stuff already so he knows about that kind of thing. I guess the only things that are keeping me here are my guilt and him. I just feel like an awful girlfriend being so selfish and greedy. I guess I'll just have to read the Fountainhead again. It's a book all about doing things for yourself and only yourself. It's an awesome book, you should check it out. Damn my mother passing on her guilt complex! Grr....

Well Dahling...If he is being super supportive then I think you have your answer. I know that it is hard leaving, and I TOTALLY understand the guilt. But you aren't being totally selfish if your family and your boyfriend are being supportive. They get it...and most importantly in this case HE gets it. You will be alright.
Oh...did you like that my smilie ended up in the middle of my "word". No one knows...lol. ><
