http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/08/t...n_collider.htmlThe Large Hadron Collider, it's a 27 mile long particle accelerator that's nearing the final stages of completion, and is expected to be done and run it's first test this month. Been nice knowing you all.

Sweet Jesus.
CERN is mental.
I'm sure they've considered the consiquences...but still...what if something goes wrong that they never expected?

OH MY FREAKING CRAP! It's time to do everything I planned to do before I die. Now if only I could find a girlfriend.....

I get a strange urge to be inside of that thing when it activates. I must be going insane.

Actually, it's 27 kilometers long, not 27 miles. It's more like 17 miles long, according to the article. [/smart-alec]
Anyway... wow. O_O That is... wow. Scary.
Kero - August 9, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
I've got more Keroro to watch before I die. I can't die yet. Ku ku ku...
Slicer - August 9, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
What are they going to fire that thing at?
KiRoy - August 10, 2008 01:25 AM (GMT)
Is it a particle beam? Like Zoids?

You may have heard of it's alternative name, the Atom Smasher. It pretty much explains itself. Basically, they're trying to find smaller particles that make up protons, neutrons, electrons, etc. All of this because of curiosity. Basically it takes two particles, brings them up to mind boggling speed and rams them into each other, but what they want the two particles to do are explode and magically reveal smaller particles that are the building blocks to absolute physics.
