Title: Rock Wars
Description: Pretty Rediculous
Skyler - February 21, 2008 03:35 AM (GMT)
Theres Been A Huge War going on at my school, Half the people listen to Rock, The Other Half Metal, All My Friends Ask Me What Im Listening to, I Dont Tell Them. This Is Hopefully only My School, What About You? Im Sure Some Of you Couldn't Care less, And Probobly Like Classic or somthing like that, But What do you Think?
SilentStrike - February 21, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
God, I'd be really dissapointed if people at my school tried to place metal up there with legendary rock like Clapton, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, Coldplay, Who, U2, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Tom Petty, and overall, The Beatles
Metal doesn't come close.
Skyler - February 21, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
If I Told Someone I listened to Rock, and they liked metal insted, I Would Probobly have a black eye right now. But Nobody Really Seems To Care For Students Who Liten To Other Things. huh.......
SilentStrike - February 21, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
Yeah, those kids that'll punch you aren't really people you'd want opinions from anyway.
Just forget about them, they're not even worth it. Opinions are only good if you get them from someone you care about, or someone willing to give you one without punching you.
Skyler - February 21, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Well Punching, Spitting, you name it.
But The Question Is Merely For you opinion.

King Elemento - February 21, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Rock, most certainly.
*Can't think of anything to continue post with*
But anyway, some Metal's alright I s'pose, but Rock still thrashes it no end.
I mean, most of my school listens to rap, which, IMHO, doesn't deserve to be called music.
hi blu - February 21, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
ehh.. i'm an all over type of person. If your that worried about them punching you in the eye over something as stupid as music dont tell them what you listen to. ;o
expect for rap... i dispise it like i dispise my rotten milk. xD
Jaguar Junichi - February 22, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
Metal is a subcategory of rock.
Saying you liked rock would apply to metal as well.
I'd choose metal either way, though.

Metal is just another subgenre of rock, you can't combat the two; they're almost one in the same.
Now, if you named another subgenre of rock, it would be a different story.

Why is Coldplay even in the same sentence as the word legendary?

Compare Satifatcion ( The Song )
To System Of A Downs Attack.
Satisfaction Maybe a Techno But I Think Its Metal

Have you even read any of their reviews? They're being considered the best band on earth right now, second to U2. They talk about how their next album may propel them into #1.
Honestly, how didn't you know that?

Honestly, how does that make them legendary?
And Coldplay and U2 the best bands on earth? Your kidding, right?
Silent - February 23, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
No, I'm not. Check the first 5 links or so on Google for their second and third albums, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X & Y, respectively. People really think they're stunning. They've been extremely successful so far.
No, I'm not. Most people would agree that U2 is probably the current world's best band.

And let me guess, Green Day's in 3rd Place?
And the only people who would agree with the statement "U2 is the best band in the world" are the band itself and you, which comes to, about, 5 people. My point being that you have shown not the fact that U2 is the best band in the world, only your opinion. Do you, perhaps, have a recent quote from any good music critic stating that they are?
Also, just because a band is succesful does not make them legendary.
Back yourself up.

When you call every band you like either "legendary rock" or "considered the best band one earth right now" your old obssession with Naruto doesn't seem so bad.
Led Zeppelin? Nirvana? No way. I'm going to go listen to COLDPLAY and U2.

Did you guys even read what I wrote? I was talking about the world's best band, meaning right now. Sorry if you had to read between the lines a little bit.

First of all, do you, perhaps, think I'd blatantly go and lie? I thought you'd known me better.
What gave you that idea? Why are you acting like I'm some kind of imminent threat to you? Seriously, every single thing you've said has said like you're out to get me. Not to mention, you're trying way too hard to try to be like Kiao.
And really, stop acting like a robot here. Generic response after generic response...It's all without any feeling of humanity from my standpoint.
Second, I would give a more recent link, but the last album they've put out was in June of 2005. I think that's somewhat recent, anyway.

Look at this (Quoted from above link) -
| QUOTE |
This nagging doubt is at the core of ‘X&Y’. It’s a record about how we end up with the perfect one and the fear of keeping that intangible light burning. It’s also about a bunch of middle class boys lucking out, creating alchemy and becoming the biggest band of their generation while still scared shitless they’ll end up working in a call centre. It’s a brilliant record of paranoia. Oasis third album was an overblown opus to the excesses of cocaine and the good-life. Radiohead’s was a claustrophobic, intense look at the end of the world. Coldplay ’s is about love and fear. When ‘Fix You’ kicks in, which NME will concede must be about Paltrow (‘Tears stream down your face/When you lose something you can’t replace… and I will fix you’), it’s an old-fashioned hair on the neck moment. It’s a wonderful song that shifts from simple stark piano and voice to a ringing, clattering burst of intent and proto-prog four-part harmony. It will become a massive live track. Elsewhere, you don’t have to dig too deep to find the influences Coldplay have mined. There’s the Kraftwerk lift (from ‘Computer Love’) on ‘Talk’, a nod to Prince’s ‘When Doves Cry’ on ‘White Shadows’, some Lennon-driven Beatles rocking through on ‘A Message’ and Echo & The Bunnymen here and there. They even sneak in ‘Til Kingdom Come’, the song they wrote for Johnny Cash that he never got to record, as a simple acoustic secret track. |
Side note, this was straight from wikipedia-
'Coldplay went on to be nominated for this prestigious award (
Mercury Prize) which is on two further occasions, once in 2003 and again in 2005. Coldplay have been one of the most commercially successful acts of the new millennium, selling over 30 million albums. The band are also known for hit singles, including "In My Place" and the Grammy Award-winning "Clocks".'

Lmao, I'd totally get into this except I'm dealing with two completely different matters that are taking up my attention at this very moment. I will say this though.
1.) It doesn't sound inhuman; it sounds intelligent.
2.) Someone's a crazy Coldplay fan. :)

Where in this quote does it say anything about Coldplay being the second best band in the world (or U2 the first)?

There...
But anyway, whatever. It's mostly a matter of personal preference. Zeppelin's awesome, I'm not saying their bad at all. All I'm saying's that I think, based off of what I've seen in their reviews, and from my (somewhat decent) musical talent evaluation.

But even then, you still haven't proved your point.

Well, doesn't biggest band of their generation = best band around?
What else is better than them that's still around (be it touring, recording, or ...anything not under the category of 'retired')?

Currently, I'd say the Foo Fighters outclass them, easily.

Foo's are good. I still think it's neat about how Grohl was a drummer converted singer-guitarist, and was even in Nirvana... Usually drummers are stereotyped as bad song-writers.
He's very unique in his writing style and voice, and it takes a little to 'break into' his style.
