Title: Is This Anorexia?

Sweetie - May 20, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
I have a serious problem.

My friend hasn't been eating much of anything lately. She's been doing this ever since her aunt passed away (which was months ago) and I'm starting to get concerned. She hasn't had many upsets/breakdowns in the past couple of months...and she's told me that she's over her death. So, this leads me to believe that her death has nothing to do with this anymore. I think she's just not eating. She tells me she's fine with her weight. I mean, she's already lost 10 lbs. She doesn't need to loose anymore.

She skips breakfast and only eats lunch every other day...(lately she hasn't even been eating lunch). I know she eats dinner, she has to.

I've been trying to coax her into eating again, but she doesn't want to budge.

Do you think she has an eating disorder? How can I help her?

Instead of hearing what I have to say, how about I read a passage from an American Girl magazine my mom got me? (Actually, the passage is about bulimia, but the same solution should comply)

You are right to be frightened for your friend.
She may be suffering from bulimia, a serious eating disorder.
What you must do is tell an adult immediately. Talk to your
parents, a school counselor, or another adult you trust. Your
friend needs professional help. She needs your love and support, too.
But be prepared. Instead of thanking you for your concern, your
friend may feel upset, even angry. She may feel that you have
betrayed her by revealing her secret. Be patient and stand by
your friend in this stormy time. You're doing the right thing.
And one day, when she's well again, your friend will realize
that you took action because you cared about her.

Now, I don't know if your friend would get angry at you, but the point is, tell an adult. But first, make sure it's serious. Maybe she just isn't eating much, but if you're absolutely that she really might be anorexic, then tell an adult.

Hm, I've heard that somewhere... What was it now... Oh yeah! Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teenage Soul: Tough Stuff(Yes people, I read those books. Wah.). In my opinion, if she keeps it up, tell an adult. :P

Only wrestlers should be anorexic, but only to make weight.

hm... it could be that something else happened that she just didn't tell you about. Or she could be depressed. I've read that when people are depressed or upset, they deal with it food wise. Or maybe she's just trying to lose weight? I'm not sure...

Well, here's a little update (for anyone who cares)...

She's getting better. :) She stills skips breakfast but she's eating lunch and dinner and such... I (along with a few other people... all close friends) got on her back about it and she decided to fix her habits.

Thanks for the suggestions/help. It's appreciated. <3.

But it's nice to see you got on her "back" to get out of old habits.

No wai, I read those too! xD

Sorry Topaz, I've been in Colorado this weekend so I've not had a chance to get on. It's nice to hear things are getting better, though.
