You've got a lot of improvement ahead, but I see a really good start. :D
Let's admit it everyone. Even the greatest of artists started out with below average art they thought was spectacular. It's a normal cycle in the life of an artist. All we can do is encourage them in their endevour and tell them they're getting better...with practice of course.
Do you draw them on paper then color them on the computer?

Hopefully he colors on the computer, Flash or Photoshop works for that, and you can get like a 30 day trial to have one of them for free, instead of the massive amount of money they cost (forget which one it is though)
