Title: Vienna
Dinky Jo - October 11, 2006 12:11 PM (GMT)
Matches currently going on:
Haas vs. Hrbarty - Haas is a set down, which I'm not gonna complain about 'cos i'm not that keen on Haas ever since his wasting time comment!!!
Gasquet vs. Falla - currently 6-5 on serve with Falla serving to take it to a tie-break. I'm surprised this one is so close in all honesty!
Dinky Jo - October 11, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
Hmm...now i look silly:
Haas has won the second set, and Gasquet has won the first set on a tie-break... Come on Hrbarty!!!!
Dinky Jo - October 11, 2006 12:44 PM (GMT)
I realise i'm talking to myself - but Hrbarty beat haas 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. :yahoo:

I'm a bit selective about live scores i'm afraid - tend to put players i either love or hate!!! B)
Try the atp website
http://www.atptennis.com/they give links for live scoring for all three tournaments
- Nick - I know Blake plays today - sometime this evening, but my work computer has serious issues with pdf files so I can't check at the moment!!!

Most interesting match-ups today (in my opinion of course!) seem to be wawrinka vs. djokovic, and Gasquet vs. Roddick.....
Dinky Jo - October 12, 2006 11:53 AM (GMT)
Wawrinka has taken the first set off Djokovic - which has surprised me somewhat! I think Wawrinka is probably better than I (and possibly others?) give him credit for. Be interesting to see what sort of fight-back Djokovic puts up.
Dinky Jo - October 12, 2006 12:19 PM (GMT)
Wawrinka wins 6-3 6-3....
Nick Cica - October 12, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)
Wawrinka is a very decent player, so no one should be surprised. The troll on the BBC site always refers to him as the "true Swiss no. 1" which is silly of course, but he is a decent no.2
It must have been quite a needle match because Djokovic behaved very badly in the Davis Cup tie, calling several injury breaks at strategic points and snatching the match as a result.
Dinky Jo - October 12, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
Nalbandian vs. Marach at the moment....

I was a little surprised at this, but not that surprised really.. Stan is a useful player, and certainly no pushover..
I don't think that they get on too badly though.. Stan was very sympathetic towards Novak in their final in July when he had to retire with breathing problems..

And good win for Roddick v Gasquet... looks like he is continuing to build some good momentum after the USO..
Dinky Jo - October 13, 2006 07:13 AM (GMT)
Yeah, fair play to Roddick. I expected him to be pushed a lot harder by Gasquet.
Dinky Jo - October 13, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
Looks like Nalby is about to be beaten by Gonzalez.....
the_zig - October 13, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
And there ya have it, a wonderful assertion by the Gonz, not that i like to gloat, but for some reason and quite glad to see Davids chances battered somewhat, he needs an attitude improvement before he fulfills his admittedly prodigious talents.

What's going on with A-ROD he has a H2h of 6-2 against Gonzo...Ok the match was very close...Bur really I was expecting a victory ... :(
Let's really hope for Madrid then...Tomorrow we will see the draw and with a little bit of chance he can get at least a easy first...
Ljubicic bt Hrbaty 6-1 6-4 as expected and I am quite happy
Lubo is one of these players who often is underestimate and he is considered as being weak: But this guy is not, he has a very strong and consistent serve and a more than respectable one hand backhand...
For me tomorrow is Lubo, at least I hope so :ok:
petalp - October 15, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
Yes, the A-Rod Gonzo is a surprise to me too! :yikes:
But great result for Gonzo! :ok: Genie will be please :) I like Gonzo too..
And agreed, Lub is very much an underrated player. Don't forget that he comprehensively beat Nalbandian earlier this year, and I'm sure that there are several other good, solid results that he has got..

Apparently though Gonzo just played a perfect match which he does so rarely. He would've probably troubled Federer with that form. Sadly he isn't the most consistent so I don't know if he'll even play that well in the final.

Well, on that basis, then one can only say full credit to Gonzo!
Absolutely true re: his consistency. Hopefully he can take at least some of this good tennis that he has been playing into the final. After all, it's never much fun when a player plays brilliantly in the semis and then lamely capitulates in the final..
Nick Cica - October 15, 2006 08:33 AM (GMT)
I saw some of this match on Hungarian Eurosport. It was a good game. What made the difference was that Gonzalez has more resources on his backhand side than Roddick. Roddick is playing with so much more confidence than he was four months ago which is great to see. He is much more patient when rallying and going for more with his backhand. Although he comes to the net more, he still leaves gaping holes and Gonzales (yesteday at least) had the skill to hit them as often as not.

Interesting observation Nick.. Maybe Andy just needs to be just that little more patient before coming to the net?
It does seem that he really is working in his game which is great to see. If he can sharpen up his backhand as you said, and continue to develop his matchplay under JC, then hopefully 2007 will be a fine year for him. At this rate, I wouldn't rule out a Fed A-Rod final at SW19 next year..
And I'm really glad to see Gonzo playing so well. Really nice guy, and a lot of fun to watch!! :D
