Really? I know they did film it in a real London school. Not Floyd fan so don't know too much about them. And I have met Dave Gilmour's brother Peter and his wife and kid a few times, and tbh they were awful, adn they left me to look after their kid who was worse than the Omen! roflmao Such a stuck up little sh*t! roflmao My landlord was a close friend of the family, so they used to come over a lot and some of the stories he told me about David Gilmore and co made my hair curl! :o

Islington Green! :D The gay teacher-banging-ex-headteacher made us sit in assembly and watch it, while he bored us with the details of why they filmed it there. God how gay?
SB I know that you are lying, and you met them, as you're their biggest fan, and you stalk them roflmao

Good selection once again everyone!! :ok:
I get the feeling that everyone is starting to get a feel for what sort of songs to submit. As SW19 mentioned, this could be a tight group... oh, apart from Aretha Franklin who could well run away with this one..
But I get the feeling that there is something for everyone in this selection.. great stuff!!

Oh I think as a song that is the best. Written by the legend Carole King (who I am a huge fan of and woudl have put in a song by he rif I thought anyoen would appreciate her but I bet most wouldnt;) and perfromed by one of the best female singers of all time. I think by far the worst song is Beyonce. Aretha could teach her a few things, liek hwo to sing for a start! roflmao

Well Actica my opinion on Beyonce (and many other so called modern soul singers) is that there is just no way they can better Aretha and co so I am nto interested. I prefer odl soul songs, in fact I listen to TONS of it, and some of it so rare you can't even find it on line but you still hear it form the djs at soul nights. I can just think of dozens of beter singers, Galdys Knight, Carla thomas, PP Arnold, etc. but I guess it appeals to youngsters. I do think thoguh that the old soul standards will always eb classics, whereas the modern RnB probably won't. Just my view. :)

Yeah that is fair enough :) I just LOVe my old soul. problem is that youtube is a bit shite for it so I could not find many songs I wanted. I had a lost of 10 classics that i am sure youngsters would like too, not one was there so I just went for what I liked and what might appeal to some instead. I coudl haev played this contest by jusy pickign ten classics, but it is onyl a game and I wanted to be different and show some songs that mean a lot to me or that enjoyed at lot at certain times in my life. :D Troubel is there are thousands, and when you are brough tup with music and your sister deals in records you get bore dwith the classics really and have too many reference points to go to. I NEVER egt bore dwith music though, I have so much i cant; possibly! :D

I fidn Mary J a bit much tbh. I really like that woman who is more jazzy - Amy Winehouse, truly unique voice and very talented. I liked Macy Gray as she had a unique and raw voice, but didn't last long. You may be surprised, but I love Lemar (runne rup form Fame academy) as he really has an old fashioned sounding soul voice. Otis reddign and Levi Stubbs are my soul men. :D

RnB all the way! But then again, each to their own... thats why I picked one that I thought would appeal to all this time....
|
Good for you, actica.. :ok:
Re: the old classics.. well, people like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, etc, etc don't come round tooo often.. And whilst RnB of todfay might not match up too well with that stuff, well, what does? there are a few good rnb folk out there right now.. erm, at least I think so, although not many spring to mind off the top of my head! roflmao Mary J Blige maybe? Actica, can you help here? :)
|
|
Yeah... Lemar has a great soul voice...

I have three firm favs and I am betting the two I am not that keen on are the same as yours hun ;)
on the subject of songs... I listened to Strange Fruit by Billie Holliday yesterday in English - to give the kids a taste of what it was like for the character Crooks in Of Mice and Men - what a truly disturbing song - really brought it home to you what people had to suffer...
|
Hey Pebs
yes, I remember an article in the Guardian about Strange Fruit.. it really is about a brutal stage in US history, isn't it.. Quite a powerful song..
