I'd imagine that you've already checked the ATP site for live scores?

They show that Tim won :)

I am getting a 'server busy' message when trying to visit the scoreboard for the Japan Open website :(

http://scoreboard.tennisonline.jp/aigopen06/

Maybe worth trying the above link?

petalp - October 3, 2006 08:48 AM (GMT)
Ah.. just got through.. you're right, it is in Japanese.. maybe the updated scores on the ATP site are your best bet..

Flame - October 3, 2006 08:56 AM (GMT)
nice win by tim. 6-2 6-1 over dangerous dancevic. that's encouraging.

Dinky Jo - October 3, 2006 09:00 AM (GMT)
I think i've worked it out - if you get to the live scores bit and click on scoreboard that seems to work! Except i'm too late now!!!! What's the time difference????

Flame - October 3, 2006 09:07 AM (GMT)
i belive they're 8 hours ahead.

tough match next for timbo. del potro has recently beaten pavel and moya. and last night he whipped ginepri 6-2 6-2. he's a big guy and won't be easy for henners to handle.

Here's a handy site: :)

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

So, 6:08pm over there right now.

Glad that you got the scoreboard thing sorted.. There's ususally a link within the ATP site that takes you to something or other; well, at least that's what I have found. :)

Tennis_Mad_Andy - October 3, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
Afternoon everyone :D Cos i'm a bit nuts... ;) I stayed up till 4:30am to watch his match on livescore, and the livescore on japan site worked for me last night so i'm not sure why you guys cant get it :( But what a win :D I am absolutely delighted with that!

For some reason his next opponent del potro, he hasnt even got a profile on the atp site, so where the heck is this guy ranked  he beat flippin ginepri!!

GS2 - October 3, 2006 03:10 PM (GMT)

He does but it's a bit tricky to find.

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/play...ayernumber=D683

Ranked number 103 - he's the next big hope for Argentina. Beat Moya last week.

Tennis_Mad_Andy - October 4, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
Uh oh!! hope Henman isn't complacent against him, Tim could really do with reaching the quarters or better in this tourny to improve his ranking! i worked out that if he finished in the semi's and lost then he would move up about 5-6 places and if he gets to the quarters then loses he would move up about 3-4 places so he needs these points :)

Flame - October 4, 2006 06:52 AM (GMT)
i see "tough as nails" novak took care of murray.

scolios - October 4, 2006 09:07 AM (GMT)
And Federer looked as if he was struggling against someone called Victor (Tricky) Troika. Who on earth is he? (No need to tell me, I'll look him up, but he's new to mne.) Anyway Tricky Troika took Fed to two tiebreaks :yikes:

Oops, got his name wrong. It's Troicki (which goes better with tricky :D ) and there is virtually NO info about him on the ATP website, except that he has won a Challengers and a Futures single + ditto doubles this year and he's from SCG (where's that??? - Serbia-Montenegro??). Anyone know more than this? I would guess he's probably young and new or there'd be more personal data on him.

Yes that would be serbia I think! It's pretty amazing that he gave fed such a run to be honest, whats even more unbelievable though to me is that I was fully expecting a Henman vs Ginepri 3rd round, and even Henman was expecting it too! so he will be as shocked as me to see that del potro beat him

I don't know much at all about Troicki. Apparently this was his first ATP level match. I looked up his stats, though, and he won a challenger a little while back and has a ranking in the 200s.

I am up again at silly o clock in the morning, 3:20 right now  Cos im going to follow Tim's match by livescore again but it looks like it wont start till about 7am so i might go bed for a bit! I just saw this really funny blog federer did on the ATP site and it's great :D

Its federer saying that Him, Henman and Koubek went to this restaurant and Tim decided to take over from the chef and cook feds meal for him... roflmao

It's got some pics too...

Yes, Tim and Roger are very good friends. I think that last year they even shared a private jet to get themselves around the USA during the hard court season? I think that prior to that, Tim ad Pete Sampras used to do something like that as well.

Roger was certainly uncomfortable about playing Tim in R2 at SW19 this year on two levels.. Firstly, it was a potentially tough second round match for him. Secondly, he only stopped short of saying he'd rather Tim had had the chance to go deeper into the tournament, and not potentially at Fed's expense.. Thirdly he also said he knew what SW19 meant to Tim as being a home favourite, and all the more reason why it would have been nicer for him to go further into the draw.

Another lesser known fact about Federer is that he is a big cricket fan. He founds it therapeutic to watch, and got into it both by having a South African mother, and also following it whilst at the AO. I recall him being caught practising a cricket shot whilst on the practice courts in Melbourne a couple of years ago! :D

Scolios.. he is the 'humble swiss'.. 'the courteous swiss' 'the magnanimous swiss'

And all other players send him warm text messages (and nothing remotely chilling!)

And he is the undisputed number one, permanent swiss in one of the strongest eras ever..

Hmm.. maybe I have spent too much time on the beeb board!

Nick Havoc - October 6, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Henman won 7-6 6-3 over del Potro. A good result for Tim. The young Argentine has been playing very well, so I though Henman might get knocked out at this stage.

So, congrats in order for all the Henman fans.

Yay!!

Good result for Tim! Great stuff!! :ok:

Del Potro has been earmarked as a big hope of Argentnian tennis, and some of his recent results certainly reflect that..

From what I can gather, Tim is enjoying the fast surface out there.. :)

petalp - October 6, 2006 06:07 AM (GMT)
..and Tim plays Mario Ancic next in the last 8!

a good matchup.. :ok:

Indeed :D :D :D Andy is one happy boy this morning i can tell you!! not only was i happy that it started at 9am japan time which was 1am english time so i didnt have to stay up till 5am to follow it this time :) But for Henman to win was awesome! I was very worried when he was trailing 5-2 in the first set, it looked an absolute terrible first set but then he fought back to 5-5 and won 7-1 in the tie break :D and then when he won the 2nd set 6-3 thats when the celebrations started for me :P

Its really strange now though! because he is playing Ancic later on today, probably about 12pm british time and 8pm japan time on centre court! and i dont think i have known a sitation where a singles match gets played by one player at 9am that day and then he has to play the next round match the same day but in the evening/night! :o

Best of luck to Tim though, he can do it i have faith in him :D and even if he loses, the quarter finals is good and will get his ranking up to about 50th :)

Dinky Jo - October 6, 2006 07:29 AM (GMT)
Congrats Tim!

But i notice Federer dropped a set!!!!! Scoreline 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. Is Fed just taking a while to get warmed up? I thought he was back in full swing after his win over Moddie, but this hoenstly has surprised me!

I think the fact he played A local wildcard from Japan maybe made the job harder for him than it usually does... This guy he played from Japan had a good run in the tournament to get to the quarter finals and obviously with the home support and the determination to try and achieve the biggest win of his career in his home tournament must have been a facter in Fed dropping that first set...

Did well not to let it get to him though and pull through to win :)

Nick Cica - October 6, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
Did anyone see the match they played in Australia in 2005? Watching that, it was quite astonishing that Suzuki wasn't ranked in the top 25. He is a superb player but I think concentrates on the Japanese domestic circuit. So it was no real surprise that he put up a good fight but it must have been a nail biter to watch!

This was the match when Federer his an amazing "round the post" shot which was THE shot of the 2005 Australian Open.

scvangils - October 6, 2006 09:01 AM (GMT)
The reason Fed had a tough time is that Suzuki plays kamikaze tennis (no pun intended). In a five set match no player is able to maintain that level, but in a best of three on a fast court it's always dangerous when you play an unpredictable, offensive player who has nothing to lose.

The long term problem for such a player is that he usually doesn't have a consistent B-game, hence he'll rarely achieve his ranking potential.

Flame - October 6, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
you have to say suzuki played an absolute blinder thoughout this tourny. came back from the dead against waske in the last round and now gets a set off fed. great tennis for the home crowd to cheer for.

top win by tim last night as well. juan del potro is a giant of a man and has a big future in tennis. to get him in straights is a great effort.

i can't wait for the henman / ancic match. mario has always had tim's number in the past. i'll never forget that heartbreaker at wimbledon where tim listened to his critics and came into the net on everything. only to get passed and humbled time after time. i think it was that match more than anything else that convinced tim to stay back on his serve and concentrate on improving his forehand.

but with the courts in tokyo playing so fast, henman should be able to use his natural serve-volley game without fearing the consequences. and hopefully he can give a good account of himself against mario later.

Nick Havoc - October 6, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
So when does the Ancic match start?

Flame - October 6, 2006 01:09 PM (GMT)
after captain neimo gets beat by the unfortunately-named b becker.

Flame - October 6, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
by the looks of things, in about 20 minutes time.

Flame - October 6, 2006 01:21 PM (GMT)
there it is. becker pulls out an excellent win from a set down over nieminen and tim / mario is up next. wahoo!

Tennis_Mad_Andy - October 6, 2006 01:24 PM (GMT)
Yes, here we go :D :D :D COME ON TIMMMM!!! if he can pull off a win against ancic i will be absolutely delighted to be honest, the odds are against him but not only am i a big Henman fan but i also like to see the underdog win so i cant wait for this match.

Flame - October 6, 2006 01:30 PM (GMT)
it's been a season of fits and starts for timbo. some great wins over top players. but he hasn't (with the exception of queens) grabbed a tournament by the scruff of the neck and taken his chance to climb back up the rankings. it won't be easy but he's got another chance right now.

come on tim, you're still far too good to be scratching around at 50 something in the world.

so get in there and kick some arse!

Nick Cica - October 6, 2006 01:30 PM (GMT)
Ancic has only just returned to the Tour after injury and I sense he is not playing as consistently as he was before the break. So he is vulnerable.

Flame - October 6, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
that's true, he had a real shocker against stefan koubek last week.
