True. Venus is dangerous when she isn't expected to win.
SerenaW19 - September 24, 2006 11:44 AM (GMT)
If Venus is injury free this is her tournament to win :D
I would say Venus is the favourite to win her match with Ivanovic; if Serena can beat her 6-2 6-4 then Venus can beat her even if it goes to three sets.
SerenaW19 - September 24, 2006 11:46 AM (GMT)
Oh no! :o

Yeah and Serena wasnt even at her best in that either. Venus's movement will prove a factor in this match i feel. Ivanovic has great first strikes, but Venus has much more consistent power and depth on the ball. I'm hoping Venus gives Ana the ' venus treatment ' roflmao
SerenaW19 - September 24, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
Venus has a lot more variety than Ana also. I can't see how Ana would win. Venus would have to play like she did at the AO to lose.

Yeah and Venus has one of the most fluent volleys on the tour as well and definitely can use slices, angle to really keep ana on the move.
Go Venus! :yahoo:
SerenaW19 - September 24, 2006 12:04 PM (GMT)
Yep hopefully she'll be clicking.
At RG she was supposed to do this to defeat Vaidisova and expose her poor movement but Venus' net game just fell apart
I know she'll be low on match practice but she has played a bit this year so hopefully Venus will get into the flow of things quickly :)
LDF - September 24, 2006 12:08 PM (GMT)
The Seoul draw:
(1)Hingis - Q

Bremond - Tu
(3)Bartoli - Craybas
(5)Zvonareva - Pin

(2)Kirilenko - Dushevina
I have to say, that's a pretty good draw for a Tier IV!
welshboy91 - September 24, 2006 12:12 PM (GMT)
Thats a tier IV whilst Kolkata is a tier III
SerenaW19 - September 24, 2006 12:12 PM (GMT)
It is, but if Hingis doesn't win then it will be poor from her.
welshboy91 - September 24, 2006 12:13 PM (GMT)
Makiri has Zvonareva nearby.

Ghungzhou draw -
Oddly despite being a Tier 3 it's not as strong as the Tier 4 Seoul.
Jankovic has got to be the favourite for this but does not have the nicest of draws with Peng, Molik, Chakvetadze & Shaugnessy in her half. Li Na should cruise through her half.

GS2 - September 26, 2006 09:51 AM (GMT)
Seoul Results
Singles - First Round
Akiko Morigami (JPN) d. (6) Sofia Arvidsson (SWE) 60 64
(3) Marion Bartoli (FRA) d. Jill Craybas (USA) 64 61
(Q) Anastassia Rodionova (RUS) d. Marta Domachowska (POL) 64 63
Paola Suárez (ARG) d. (7) Gisela Dulko (ARG) 61 63
(5) Vera Zvonareva (RUS) d. Camille Pin (FRA) 61 62
Virginia Ruano Pascual (ESP) d. (8) Lucie Safarova (CZE) 75 64
Good results for Suarez & Ruano Pascual (who's singles career is reviving a bit this year) as they both dispose of seeds. Another seed Arvidsson is out as is Kirilenko who's poor run continues - she lost 7-5 in the third to Dushevina.
GS2 - September 26, 2006 11:47 AM (GMT)
Rubin wins her first match which is nice to see 6-3, 6-0 against Muller.
Also from Seoul Molik wins against Vania King 7-5 in the 3rd
