Title: Sudoku

Nick Havoc - May 9, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
I've gotten hooked on these things lately. Here's one I did today, that I thought was fairly challenging:

*** 8** *1*
*42 7** ***
*6* *** **9

*** *3* 4**
**8 *1* 5**
**7 *2* ***

3** *** *4*
*** **5 27*
*9* **6 ***

I like Sudoku too. I buy these littel books of the things and take them with me when i know I might be sitting aorund a bit, like the hopsital. Must say the one you posted is a stinker, I have been tryign to do it and have not cracked it yet. It's very tricky, I am wondering if I missed something or if ti is one of thos ewhere you have to take a rsik and se ehow it turns out!

Basically it's a 9 x 9 grid, split into 9 - 3x3 grids.

Each full row, each full column and each 3x3 grid must contain each of the digits from 1 to 9.

There are much easier ones to start with, but I don't have any handy at the moment. Someone send Big Al and easy sudoku . . . .

Hello Al,

Here is a link to a section of the Times website with some Sudoku puzzles in it:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,18209,00.html

If you click on the link to the Holiday Sudoku then you should be able to download a whole bunch of them :)

Hi Nick,

Have you tried Samurai Sudoku?

http://www.samurai-sudoku.com/

Or Killer Sudoku?

http://www.killersudokuonline.com/

Or even Killer Samurai Sudoku? :o

http://www.sudoku.4thewww.com/killer_samurai.php

These are pretty hardcore sudoku puzzles, esp the Samurai version!! The basic Killer version is not so bad though :)

The Times website is good for these things, as mentioned in the posting to Al.

I've tried Hashi (sounds a tad dubious, that!), found it quite interesting but not that absorbing. I kept finding errors, or that there was more than one way to solve a puzzle. The pdf file mentioned in the posting to Al includes these too, is well worth downloading

Al,

A quick post script: there is a kids' section of the pdf file, is probably a good gentle introduction to the puzzles..

Good for the odd coffee or lunch break :)

ah sudoku...the scurge of mankind. Not cos its hard (it might be - i never try it) but because people feel the need to HAVE to complete it on the underground when its cramped as it is

Pebs - May 13, 2006 10:19 PM (GMT)
Okay Nick - I done it - I think! Bit of a tricky one and I lost my way once or twice - but managed to come back on track without scrapping it once!

Not once have I completed a sudoku puzzle. I just take one look at them and think no, I'd rather do my Maths homework than this! roflmao

SuperBRAT - May 17, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
I did it in the end, but it was tortuous that one. I went back to my puzzle book and did about 20 in the time that one took! :o

Nick Havoc - April 29, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
I have a daily Sudoku calendar for this year. They're pretty easy, for the most part. Today's was a little trickier, but still not too bad . . . .

__ __ 9 __ __ 8 __ 6 __
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 3
__ __ 5 __ __ 9 __ __ 1

6 __ 1 __ __ 4 __ 7 9
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
3 __ __ 1 8 __ 2 __ __

4 __ 6 __ __ __ __ 5 2
2 1 3 __ __ __ __ __ __
__ __ __ __ 4 __ 7 __ __

For anyone who tries the puzzle, sorry for the rather sloppy formatting. It looked a lot neater when I was typing it . . .

I had enough fo Suduko, it was just a fad. Shame Carol Vorderman made so much money out of old rope though!

Tenez - April 30, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
I'll try it. So far I have cracked them all. ;)

Edit - I have added a smilie to take pressure away and not sound too arrogant...though I shoudl probably add another smilie to make it credible!

let us know how you found it - I want to give it a go - will do so when I get my sudoku frame back up on the computer!

SuperBRAT - April 30, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
Sudoku is one fo the bane sof my life cos Geroge does them all the time and I'm sick of finding hsi books and pens all over the bathroom cos he does them on the loo! I'm serious!

Also to reduce the mess I bought him a computer one for Xmas but he said ti was too easy and it was binned in a week.

Tenez - April 30, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
The April 29 is actually pretty easy I thought. I'll try the one on the first post. looks a bit harder.

Yeah. The calendar ones have all been pretty easy. That one was just a little bit more challenging than most have been. I think the one I started the thread with was pretty tricky, but I was pretty new to these puzzles at the time. I might have to redo it, myself, just for fun . . .
