In my mind, Elena is the best Fed cupplayer of this generation. She shows extreme motivation and determination. She is extremely patriotic and fights for everything. Her career record speaks for itself: 22 wins to 8 defeats. She practically won the Fed Cup last year for Russia. She won all 3 of her matches against two extremely good players; Pierce and Maursemo. She fought off the parisian crowd and put behind her the scarring that final against Myskina a year earlier. She played phenominal tennis throughout the weekend. Every match she played went to 3 sets but she fought hard and won.
d. Pierce 7-6 2-6 6-1
d. Mauremo 6-4 4-6 6-2
(w/Safina) d. Mauresmo/Pierce 6-4 1-6 6-3
She fought her her country and showed why she is a world class player.
This is why I choose Elena Dementieva as the best Fed Cup player of this generation.
I've actually only seen her play in the Fed Cup once, and that was during the 2005 final. As you said, she single-handedly won it for Russia; her desire was clear for all to see. :)
Oh, and I wasn't too surprised she won all her ties; she is the 3-set queen, after all ;)
Delayed response to this thread, but just good to see Elena getting well-deserved credit :ok:
And nice pics btw, WB! :) I like Russiafans avatar too, nice smile from Elena!!
